oes anyone on here get really stupidly obsessive about a television programme or film?

I get disks from "Lovefilm", and I usually watch them once, maybe watch a bit of the commentary or extras, then send it back to get the next one.

But I got the first episode of "Hornblower" starring Ioan Gruffudd and it's utterly obsessed me! Last couple of days, I have watched it morning noon and night. I could probably give a blow by blow account of every scene and have memorised some of the dialogue. Can't say I understand all the Naval jargon but that's the next thing on the list to do, that and read the entire works of C S Forester who wrote those books. And I want to go back to Dundee where there's a ship from that era and you can wander round it. I want to do that and half shut my eyes and pretend I'm on the ship in the film.

Today I had to get the children to stage an intervention and MAKE me seal up the "Lovefilm" envelope. But a weasly part of my mind is thinking... I have spare envelopes... I could rip it open just one last time.

Does anyone else get like this?

Although I am decade behind the rest of the world I am currently living in a West Wing world. I actually cried to Dire Straits ( series 2 last episode, 2 Cathedrals) song on it the other night.

I am strutting along those corridors in my pencil skirt and cashmere top being all efficient, tripping out witty one-liners.

I keep googling stuff about American politics that I don't get in the episode...

I had already a few biographies on the wives of American Presidents and I am going to be re-reading them.

Oooh I LOVE Hornblower! and Ioan is phooarr err, well wouldn't kick him out of the sack for making biscuit crumbs. If you love CS Forester you should check out Patrick O' Brien's books (all 20 of them) - "Master and Commander" was made into a great film!

I rarely watch TV these days, so tend to get into entire box-sets instead. DH did this with "The Wire" recently - didn't see him for days.

DS and I did ALL of Buffy, followed by Angel last year . We are now alternating Jeeves and Wooster with the Inbetweeners (the sublime to the ridiculous, or perhaps vice-versa...)

Pancakeflipper have you read that book by "Anonymous" about Bill and Hilary Clinton? "Primary Colors". I loved that book but it was so full of jargon, some terms I still don't understand. American politics is fascinating, I find, mainly because of US English and its colourful vernacular.

I never got into "West Wing".

Mrs Flittersnoop, yes. That Ioan!!! Oh dear me, may have to lie down. I think the fascination for me (for me) is also cos we recently got a massive telly and also just got a BluRay player so you can literally see the pores on people's faces, it's such incredibly close detail. And Ioan looks great on a big screen. I also got "The Kid" from "Lovefilm" this time, Ioan plays a cool dude Scouse teacher but he's only in it for about ten minutes and I gave up watching after that lest I slit my wrists, it's so bloody harrowing.

I gave up on "Buffy" cos the kickboxing was a bit too predictable. My dh loves the Inbetweeners, I think he can relate to the lads in it, but I think it's a bit of a one trick pony. You going to see the film?

At the moment for me its anything with certain actors in it. Got a thing for John Simm at the mo. LOVED Ashes to Ashes which i watched first. Only watched Life on Mars two years ago when i rented the box set from the library. Last week i found a copy of Human Traffic in Cash Converters for 2 quid (it was a clubbing film JS did in the "90s.) so i was well pleased. Off back in there tommorrow to see if by a big stroke of luck i can find State of Play as i didnt see that when it was on TV either. If not i will try to rent that from the library too.

You have GOT to see "State of Play", you are in for a treat!!! I've also gone through a John Simm phase, he was so watchable in "Life on Mars". That show also introduced me to music of "The Who" which I'd never heard before.

I get like this. At the moment it is Game of Thrones. Am obsessed with it, reading the books, going on fan sites etc. Never post on them though as the users on there take it so seriously and I don't want to show my ignorance.

Having said that, don't pay too much attention to the plot. Something happens at the start of the show which doesn't actually make sense in terms of motivation/reaction by the end of the show. If you watch the commentary it's because they remade the last episode and they didn't seem to care that it rendered an early scene illogical. So just... don't pay too much attention. Most of it hangs together.

John Simm looks all sweaty in it because he deliberately drank tons of caffeine in order to play the nervous-energy for the journalist character he was playing.

Greencolorpack i am a lover of thrillers anyway and then when i saw the cast list John Simm Phil Glenister David Morissey James Mcavoy,i was sold.
Oh i saw something recently. Apparently Phil has filmed a new drama called Undisclosed where he is a lawyer investigating his bro"s death. Supposed to be on TV sometime in the next few months. I just hope its on BBC 1 as opposed to bloody Sky1 as i cant afford Sky.
Give me actors like these any day.
They can keep their Brad Pitts and Tom Cruises cos i aint interested.

Carer, I know, I'm a fan of those British actors too. I really like David Morrissey. I'm not so keen on James McAvoy because I find he can't do accents, or the Scottish accent comes through in any scene where he has to shout. For some reason I can't forgive James McAvoy but I can with Ioan Gruffudd who gets all Welsh when passionate even though he's supposed to be English.

Am saving up "Game of Thrones" as a special treat. .Have had SO many mates rave about the books and TV series have decided to save them for the next dose of swine flu etc. IYSWIM.

Getting our wonderful chavvy big TV 42-incher in the Curry's sale - (MrsF: "What? We are NOT getting one of those common huge tellys....)
was quite enlightening. We acquired our X-box 360 around the same time, and contrary to all my prejudices, watching "Halo - Combat Evolved" completely fried my synapses and converted me forever. I am now a completely commited to the New Technocracy.

Well, dear reader, I married him into it, so I guess I have to suck it up. If you can't beat 'em etc....

I used to love A Bit of Fry and Laurie, so when I watch "House" I just imagine him doing a "Damn it John!" hammy sketch about a leisure centre in Uttoxeter. Can't really take "House" seriously. Looks good though, I wish I could erase the "Bit of Fry and Laurie" memories, like the Yanks who probably think he's an unknown American.

Absolutely, I'm a very obsessive person! I'm not saying which show though as it'll out me to anyone who searches for it but it's not dissimilar to Hornblower. Just older (the tv series) and not ship-centric. There are 12 books in the series and I adore them but no longer need to read or watch as I can recite the lot!

West Wing. Watched it when it aired, bought DVDs, have watched once right through and am currently on third go-round.
Six Feet Under. Ditto and, even sadder, have watched DVD extras, which I usually don't do.
Sherlock. As above, but multiply by loads a few times . Have even watched more than once the unaired pilot, even though it's rubbish.

Had/have a milder obsession with Lucy Worsley and her If Walls Could Talk series. Been waiting eagerly for the new one on the Regency.

Also a little obsessive about Giles and Sue's Supersizers Go ...

I go through spats of being completely obsessed with shows: Buffy, Gilmore Girls, Prison Break, Lost, True Blood, Torchwood...all have factored in at one point or another. :) Right now I watch Law and Order: SVU every night on instant Netflix.

Hugh Laurie was unknown to me until House, but now I love A Bit of Fry and Laurie and I adore him as Bertie Wooster.

I'm completely obsessed with Supernatural. Completely. Got all the available DVDs, watched all the episodes, including the ones that aren't available on TV in the UK yet, got the associated tie-in books, watch clips on youtube, know where all the best fan sites are. Is that obsessed enough to count?
