Links broken on Android app

goodwinter · 15/05/2019 22:06

For some reason all links in the Android app are just coming up as "click here" - quite jarring in the middle of a long comment, and when someone posts a comment that's just a link, you have no way of knowing what it leads to as you can't see the URL and also can't see the text that the poster intended to make clickable.

Further, some of the "links" aren't links at all any more - just plain text that say "click here". Picture attached as an example.

Can we get this bug sorted and, ideally, not overwrite clickable text with "click here" please? I understand if you want to shorten large URLs but I don't think removing anything identifying about a link is the way to do that.

Wow I've tried 3 times to post a reply with the screenshot, been told "success" every time and they're not showing up. Can I not post anything with pictures attached?

Okay so that text-only comment was fine... I'm going to paste my earlier comment again:

"Sorry, here's the picture in question. When I tried to attach it to the main post and submit, I got an error message, then another one when I made the post a second time (a different error), and then the app actually logged me out when I started writing this comment!

On top of the Apache errors and "check your internet connection" errors, I've never bloody seen anything like this app. It's close to unusable.

Also attached some error screenshots, just for the fun of it."

Right, well, looks like I can't post any comments that have pictures attached. This has been a fun, infuriating 15 minutes. @MNHQ are you at least aware of the link issue, and why on earth am I getting so many errors when trying to a) post a thread, b) post a comment with a picture, and c) load any random threads? All different errors?

Here we go. I emailed the screenshots to myself so I could post them from my laptop. Fingers crossed!

I've just bought an android and noticed this, is it new? I was wondering why everyone was writing "click here" so neatly - and annoyed as there's no preview of what the heck you might be clicking!

The unclickable click here thing happens to me on the app too. Huawei phone also.

I'm having the same thing - all links saying 'click here' in blue and also a few none blue, none clickable link where it just says ' click here'.

Using the Android App

Hi there all,

Thanks so much for flagging this to us. We're going to look into it now.

I'm on the Android app and rarely do the click here links actually link to anything.

I've also lost all my bookmarks. Waaaay more frustrating than the lack of clicky links. Will that happen everytime the app updates?

Bump - any update?

Hi guys, sorry for not seeing this the first time round. We'll take a look into the issue with the links.

We changed the way bookmarks load a few weeks back, but it shouldn't change again - sorry for that!

Bump - any update? Particularly on the links - if the link isn't clicky I just get a plain text 'Click here' which is incredibly annoying

I'm also finding that when I do click on a link, when I then come back to the app (either by using the back arrow on my phone, or by opening the app again) then the thread I was on has gone blank. This is marginally annoying if it's a thread I've watched/bookmarked, but if it's not then I generally can't find the thread again, (I mostly use active and it updates so quick that the thread often isn't there and I can't remember which forum section it was in most of the time).

Have to say generally as well that this is possibly the most frustrating app I've ever used!

This still hasn't been addressed - it makes using the app really difficult and is very annoying. Any update?

Hi @DistantVworp sorry you've been having problems. Please let us know the version of the app that you are using and the device and a screenshot, and we'll try to get to the bottom of it.

Occasionally the 'click here' appears as a hyperlink, but more often than not it is just part of the normal text, with no clickability.

Android app on Moto 5 phone.
