I am 40 +1 d today and. I ve been having regular painful
Contractions lasting 50 to 60 seconds every 10 mins since yeaterday night at 22:30 ! I havent slept at all i know you have to go in when they are every 3 mins but this
Seems never ending now !!
What are your experiences ? Is this likely to stop or not be real labour ?

I would go in, can you call your midwife?

It could stop, real labour, the contractions usually get closer together, but not always (with my last one they never got closer together than every 5 mins until I was pushing). Usually when you have a spate like that though it does a good job of getting your body a lot more prepared (cervix effaced etc) for the real thing and will likely shorten your labour. Try and rest as much as possible in the meantime.

I called labour line they said the intensity and length is what we are looking for but they are too far appart to go in yet !

Do they change timing/intensity if you are active or resting? Have they gotten stronger over time?

Don’t be fobbed off - I got to 10cm dilated wit contractions that never came closer than 5 mins together. It happens.

@Rikalaily no they dont change they remain the same ! Yes they grew in intensity and duration but the intervals are still on average 9 to 10 mins
@HaHaHmm i am being monitored daily so i already had an appoitment at 2 in the mdau . I will go to that and i am guessing they will be able to check if these contractions are doing anything ?

You poor thing. I had contractions for 3 days before they were close enough to go to hospital. They got as close as every 4/5 mins but then would spread out a bit again. Never more than ten minutes apart. Baby was back to back. Are you experiencing horrific back pain at all?

Fingers crossed it's not as long for you but just in case try and rest as much as possible.

On a positive note the pushing stage was a doddle. 2 pushes, about 5 mins.

Sorry, what I mean by that is from what I've heard a long early labour can often mean a quicker pushing bit so hopefully things get moving for you and the next bit is over quickly Cake

Urgh, this happened to me.. took 37 hours until baby finally arrived

I had 36 hours of contractions 10 minutes apart before I was dilated enough to stay in the hospital. And 24 of those hours the contractions were too painful to sleep. Baby arrived 42 hours after the first contraction. I really sympathise with you.

Baby might be back to back so labours not progressing

I had this for a few days too, baby wasn’t quite in the right position (she came out with a bruise on her head where she’d been pushing against my cervix). The second sweep got labour well and truely established. Good luck!

I am not sure if baby is back to back but he was only 3/5 engaged when she did the sweep yesterday ! I will ask today if he is back to back
36 hours ? Wow !! I just hope it doesnt stop completely and it gets there in the end at least!
Was going to discuss induction today at mdau so lets see what they think !

Hope you're getting on okay OP.

Sorry to have to say that I started with contractions every 8 minutes or so for about 12 hours.. Which then progressed to minute-long contractions every 4-5 minutes for the NEXT 48 HOURS.. Couldn't sleep or barely eat in that time. I was turned away from the birth centre twice as despite the duration and intensity was still only 2-3cm (was given aromatherapy oil Hmm) before they finally admitted me.

Needless to say the failure to progress continued (DD was back-back) and after a further 14 or so hours DD was in such distress I ended up having a crash section.

Not to say that this is what will happen to you but good luck whatever happens Flowers

That sounds like a difficult labour silver Flowers

How did you get on with the midwife, OP? Hope things are moving along for you.

Silversun83 I got sent home 3 times in a taxi, sneered at, nothings happened since you came in 2 hrs ago, go home (again) this is the part of labour no one tells you about and take some paracetamol. Was finally admitted when the midwives changed shifts at 8.20 and delivered at 11.

Same week someone I knew delivered their first back to back baby at home in the bath after being sent home multiple times
