I'm due on 19th with my 1st. It's a boy. Not sure if I'm a bit on the small side bump wise, thinking about friends who were at this stage. Getting a bit twitchy as I haven't seen a doc or midwife for nearly 9 weeks now!

So then some questions for you all

  1. what have you bought?

  2. whats the worst symptom?

  3. whats the thing that's annoyed you the most? (that someone's said/done)

Hi Ladies
Due on the 16th August - first baby - dont know what I'm having!
So far have bought pram (2nd hand Bugaboo), gro-egg and baby monitor (bit of a random selection!)

Hi all

1st baby due on 25th August and I don't know what I'm having either. I have bought a few clothes but that's about it. I'm getting a cot and pram from some friends though.

My worst symptom is itchy skin. It's driving me mad. My doctor has prescribed various creams but nothing seems to be working yet.

I had lunch with a friend today who said she had heard I was planning to go to the seaside in June and she felt I shouldn't when I'm pregnant Shock
I was really annoyed. I'm talking about going to my family's place in Sussex. It's not like I'm going bungee jumping! Perhaps I should just stay at home as wrap myself in cotton wool!

I haven't bought anything yet, am having a girl and kept loads of dd1's stuff so need to sort through and make a list of what is needed.

Most annoying symptom is itchy boobs Blush

Most annoying thing is my Mil who treats me as if I am incapable of doing anything because I am pregnant , yet offers no help just random comments of "oh you shouldn't be doing this, that or the other".

  1. Bought hardly anything so far! New moses basket mattress for 2nd hand moses basket, been given a few clothes and muslins, been given 2 car seats :) so feeling better than you ladies don't seem all organised and ready. I had a wobble the other day that I should be more sorted out than I am!

  2. Worst symptom...being ridiculously tired and then feeling irrationally miserable for 2nd trimester (first trimester...sickiness just horrid!) Can't complain though really, feel been pretty lucky so far

  3. Irritations that someone said or done? I think it's prob the lack of said/done to be honest. Both my bro's gf & SIL had babies a month apart 18 months ago and during both their pregnancies my mum and MIL were all over them like a rash (1st grandchildren). Well, MIL hasn't rung me much at all to see how I am and my mum whilst has been ok, lives miles away so dont see her much and does tend to go on about my bro LOADS...so have felt a bit on my own.

Maybe I'll answer my own questions

  1. Last week I bought 4 day packs of bumgenius stay-dryflips (in the 4 pale colours as I don't know LO's sex) and 2 extra organic inserts and a pack of washable wipes (The lady also threw in a newborn size all in one for me to try) as there was an offer on at the baby show. I knew I wanted to give a good go at using washables (used disposables with my DD1 who is now 11 and a half and I hated them) I just didn't know which kind to get, so after viewing a few brands at the baby show was impulsive and just got them. What are you planning to use nappy wise?
I have also bought a breast pump etc (half price at the baby show) so chuffed with that bargin too.
But thats it for buying, a friend has given us a monitor and another said she has a carrier I can have so thats two more things off the list :)
We've picked the cot bed and pram, but with jobs to finish at home there is no where to put them yet

  2. The sickness, I was sick soooo much about 7 times a day at the worst about 11 weeks in - now I am being sick once or twice a week, but feel sick most days still.

  3. I can't believe how negative people have been about the choice of washables. My DH and I had spoken about it and he is all for it he even tried one of the flips on a teddy when I got home with them (cute huh)

My mum (even though I'd told her about planning to use washables) has bought me 172 disposable newborn size nappies Confused and to tell the truth a little Angry but maybe they will help me in those first few days after birth. Funny thing is DD1 was 8lb1 born and my mum keeps telling me I am having a 'HUGE' baby this time (even though MW says I am measuring exactly as expected for my gestation) if she thinks it will be huge - why has she bought so many of the new baby size?

A friend confessed to me that another in our group has been going on and on about buying me disposables saying 'oh I know she wants to save money but if we buy her some she will be so thankful' er no..there is a whole lot of reasons for us making this decision.

One of my friends came with me to the baby show and after seeing and touching the nappies she did have to admit, 'actually they are easier than I thought'
The most annoying one of these negative comments about washables is however is one of my friends (who is male but had a 5YO) is putting money on me 'caving' and going back to disposables. His logic, "at 3am you just want life as easy as possible" sorry to be so Confused but is not changing a nappy - changing a nappy - whatever it's made of then? and "life is difficult enough without giving yourself more work" - what putting an extra load of laundry on per day (at the most) is a hardship how?

Oh dear - just read that back and realised it turned into a rant sorry about that.

and of course it's good to read that we are all in a similar place in our preparations :) and we all have our little stresses and pain in the butt symptoms.
I am so glad I joined MumsNet, you guys want to discuss babies and pgs and nurserys and prams and all that stuff, which gives my DH a wee break and I'm not bombarding my childfree friends with all these things. Oh and you know useful stuff too :)
