Yes it is bubblegum pink. I used this recipe:

3 cups flour
1.5 cups salt
6 tsp cream of tarter
3 tbsp oil
3 cups water
Pour all ingredients into a large pot. Stir constantly over medium heat until a ball forms by pulling away from the sides. Knead the playdough until the texture matches playdough (1-2 minutes).

Store in plastic container. Should last for at least 3 months.

I added red food colouring and vanilla essence so it smells fab too. I am going to make some another batch and make it black and put glitter and orange extract in

Sounds fab - at what point do you add the food colouring?

Does the food colouring 'leak' at all (that would be my main sticking point)?

Well I think it sounds fab

Ah

You put the colouring in with the water so it is a uniform colour. If however you wanted a marbled effect (which I think would be quite cool) you could just knead it in at the end.

The only drawback could emerge when I actually try to wash the pan, of course

home made playdoe is the best.

Reminds me, I must buy some new cutters.

I always put the colouring in at the end, i roll foil out to protect the table and poke a hole in the middle of the ball, drop in the tiniest drop of colour then need, if you bothered about your hands wear rubber gloves once its all rubbed and cooled down it will be fine.

Once you've made it, does it last forever or go hard after one use??? sorry, probably incredibly thick question!

FrannyandZooey · 03/05/2007 14:39

Lasts a long time FooFoo - keep it in a plastic bag or a container with a lid

LMG why do you do it that way, out of interest?

F&Z I have no idea just do, i guess i wanted to look after my pans the first time, maybe.

It does last a really long time if you wrap it in clingfilm or plastic bad and put in air tight container I've still got mine i made last october!

You can make that recipe in a microwave, just put it in for six minutes, but stir every minute.
really easy, and you can get powder food colouring that doesn't leave a residue.

does the dye come out onto your table?

Report
FrannyandZooey · 03/05/2007 18:51

I always use playdough on a tray so it won't affect my table whichever

I wouldn't use it on an unvarnished table without a tray, myself

LMG I still have not washed the pan so I may be using your method next time!

It's soooooo much nicer

not sticky, has a lovely smooth and warm texture

no packaging

ruddy dirt cheap

no chemical crap in it (I got Play-Do in a cut on my hand once and it stung like buggery)

biodegradable
