Has anyone got appliances from Box Clever? Don't make the mistake we did...

Sorry, washing machines aren't the most exciting of subjects but I'm a) embarrassed for being so long term dim, and b) hoping to help someone avoid makng the same mistake.

For some reason unknown to mankind we've hired rather than buying a washing machine for around 10 years. We've now inherited a nearly new one so I phoned to ask Box clever (used to be radio rentals) to take it back, which was arranged. They've now phoned back offering to sell our current machine to us for £15! So they can't even be bothered to collect it, would rather sell it to us than dispose of it themselves and have the cheek to want to charge us £15 for the privilege.

Motto of the story: Don't hire for a long time - tell them you don't want it anymore, and they'll try and sell it to you!
Grrrr....

oohh this happened with our TV years ago. We were renting and when we finally wanted to buy our own they offered to sell it to us for a trifling sum, we bargained it down a bit and kept it.

How long did you have it for, saadia?

This happened to me...they offered to cut the rental price by half and then rang back a day or two later and offered it to us for pittance as it would cost more money than the machine was worth to come and pick it up.

Peaches, it was when I was a child and I guess we must have had it for around 10yrs or so.

And NOW, a week later... They want to give it away!

Since we said no to the £15 offer they've just rung and said we can have it for free! I think I've got mug tattoed on my forehead and don't want to think that had we phoned three or four years ago they might have said the same, and we'd have saved all that money. Mugs we are. Grrrr....

Keep it, then sell it on ;)

Well I wondered about that but then thought who's going to want to buy a 10 year old washing machine? If I was more charitable, I'd freecycle it... maybe I should.

Rented with them for many many years , had the currant machine for two years and it had cost me over £800 pound . They offered to sell me for wait for it ---£360 . Of course I said no and they took it back , so all that money for basically nothing . To me these are as bad as loan sharks and they need looking into by trading standards . Urgently ?
