"As well as being available in a variety of finishes, including matt, mid-sheen and gloss, the Valspar unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see - that's 2.2 million shades! Choose a colour that's personal to you and your family - be it the shade of a festive Christmas bauble, or a favourite ornament, simply take the item to your local B&Q and its exact colour can be scanned and recreated in paint form.”

Testers, answer the below questions, but also feel free to share any other comments you have on your experience:
1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
2. Which room did you decorate and why?
3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also share your before and after photos of your project on this thread and complete the feedback survey when we email this to you.

All who complete the required feedback by the 11th April will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

So we're redecorating the small person's bedroom. It's the same magnolia that it's been since we bought the house 3 years ago with some rapidly peeling stickers! As he's a real Lego fanatic we're painting it bright yellow (like the yellow of the Lego logo), I got my paint on Wednesday, having taken a Lego rick to B & Q to colour match. They couldn't get an exact match on it but we're only 0.9% off so should be pretty close. Painting is due to start next Wednesday and I hope to be finished by the end of next week so it's all done before Lucas starts his Easter break! I don't think he'd make a good decorator's assistant lol

So I tackled the toddlers pad yesterday which had been magnolia with stickers for some time. I couldn't work out where to find the paint in B&Q then I noticed the Valspar area and it was like something from the future. The colour choice was huge and I loved how you could see it under different lights to see how it would look in daytime/nighttime/artificial light. We chose from the rack and were impressed by the whole experience. The paint glided on effortlessly. It was a joy to use and even though we went for a hold colour it covered really well and only needed a quick skooter over on the second coat. We used so little to cover a wall and are really pleased with the results. Top marks to me for painting with a 1 and 4 year old on hand to help! I'd definitely purchase this again. The quality was much higher than competitor brands and it was so easy to paint with.

So pleased I got chosen for this! It's given us the nudge we've needed to get the kids' playroom sorted out.
It was originally a nursery for my eldest but we've had a move around since so it's been a playroom for a few years. We're going Star Wars themed so have got some wallpaper which we did colour match a section of and tried a tester pot, but decided it was too light. So we've gone for a different colour off the shelf which I think will be perfect.
The tester went on really nicely so I think the finished result will look great. Just need to get on with stripping the rest of the border off!

I will update with pictures tomorrow when the sun shines a bit!

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Choosing colour was made easier by the different light boxes so you could see what it would look like in flourescent, sunlight or just daylight

However making decision was hard and I would have welcomed a guide for south facing colours - I saw in the book some colours suggested but had no way of knowing if the colour I had picked would work (we have a very very sunny room). I ended up with custard yellow by mistake last time (don't ask, it didn't look that bright until you put it on the wall).

B&Q staff are hard to hunt at our local B&Q but once found were helpful enough and found the Valspar rep for me to answer questions on finish and prep work for very elderly plasters and repaired plaster (I think she might have been quite glad when I left I asked so many questions). One thing which would have improved it would have been the question: do you have a plan for the woodwork/ceilings/other bits? Because on the way home I realised I'd need to repaint the door frame and I could have picked a contrasting Valspar paint for that while I was there.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

Bedroom - I've redecorated the entire house over the last two years and my bedroom is the last to get done. Also it's a tricky room, see above tests with custard yellow. I had started it last year, and gave up because I realised halfway through I needed to replaster part of the wall.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Getting tin open was interesting. Not the first time, that was a doddle. But the second time it was really stiff and because I couldn't use my paint can key (oh yes there is such a thing Mumsnetters and they are fab!) I spent ages faffing trying to get it open.

Cutting in with the brush was easy because the texture was great - (silk finish) - almost instantly dry (which did lead to some patching issues with the roller but they all got sorted with second coat).

Was not as fast to roll on as Dulux -probably because thicker - but that seems to have worked well with the coverage on the crap plasterwork. Has covered hairline cracks well (yes I know you should fill them but they are under the blooming bed where only the dust goes).

Clean up was quite difficult - again paint consistency - wish I'd used a roller tray. No chance of cleaning and reusing roller so it went binwards. Brush cleaning took a while too. Also paint on skin adhered like superglue - could not get it off for love nor money. Tried Swarfega and everything. Tips on getting it off would be welcomed, four days and five washes later I still have a smurfish knee.

Coverage - instantly covered previous colour with very few patches. Second coat very much consolidated colour and gave a smooth texture.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. In fact I am planning to in the hallway where the children leave stickiness all the blessed time grrr. Either that or I'll paint the children. That would work. Grin

It's expensive. But you use less, so it works out about the same as Dulux or Crown. Am impressed with colour and texture.

Also smells nicer than other paints.

When I say 'wish I'd used a roller tray' I mean 'wish I'd used a tray LINER' obviously. I did not actually just roll the paint out on the floor. Grin

1.Choosing the colour was qyite straightforward.we were pleased that we could colour match so used a sample of paint that we have used in thexrest if the house and matched the valspar paint to this.
2.We are are decorating my daughters bedroom which is in the attic.we last painted it 7 years ago and it desperately needs doing again.my daughter is forever doing handstands against the wall and it's covered in scuffs and dirty marks.one of the reasons we wanted to try out the Valspar paint was the variety of colours to choose from and the fact it is hardwearing paint.

3 We have only done one side of the room so far but the paint quality is good and it is going onto the walls easily. I am pleased that it doesn't have an overpowering smell too.So far so good.

4.we will definitely use this paint again.it is good quality with a huge choice of colours plus we can colour match. Plus we can buy it at our local b&q so handy.

Thanks

Ok we're all done! Got our vouchers last week so spent Mother's Day in B&Q.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Found it really overwhelming. I was open to making a bolder choice than my usual magnolia but all I know was that I wanted a warm colour for a sunny room. The shop assistant - whilst friendly - wasn't able to suggest any colours for us and I really could have used some advice. So I was a bit disappointed in myself to make a safe (boring?) choice. We chose "You're Blushing" which is a white with a pink undertone. I did really like being able to hold the colours under the different lights to visualise what it's like.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

The lounge. Hadn't been painted in 5 years, lots of grubby marks at small child level.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Good but it dries super quickly which meant a few patchy roller marks and perhaps the coverage isn't as much as it says on the tin. Smell not too bad either.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes we'd consider it but would really appreciate more expert advice when it comes to choosing colours - the range is so huge it's a pity to feel so unsure as to opt for the safe colour!

Before and after pix attached but the colour is perhaps not hugely different in the photos.

Thanks Mumsnet and Valspar for letting us spruce up our lounge, really appreciated the opportunity to try.

Choosing colour was a great experience. The lady in the counter at b and q bury was extremely helpful. The paint was for my daughters room and she loved choosing from the massive range. The light boxes were great. The colour is exactly the same as the sample when applied. My only negative would be that we bought an addition 2.5l pot as we would normally use about 4 l on daughters room. We did not use the second put at all and still had some left over from the first but this is non refundable. I would understand this if it was a colour match service but as it is from stock colours I would have liked to have been informed of this so I could have bought one pot and come back if I needed a second

I am doing my other daughters bedroom tomorrow. I would not go back to my original paint again.

Before pucture is of was after being stripped. After picture looks patchy but it's the reflection of the light shade.

We chose from the wide selection they had. We did buy a few testers to see how it looked on the wall. The staff were very helpful. We chose Sping Gentian in the end. The lady mixing it was lovely.

It went nice on the walls. As we was doing a big area the paint dried fairly quickly. We used the roller. Didnt have any problems reusing the roller the next day. The second coat made it look so much better and gave a smooth finish. We did buy another tin to complete the second coat. We was worried that the 2nd tin would not be the same colour as the first but we took our 1st in with us and was no problem.

These are the two living room walls I'm going to paint- the chimney breasts on each. The room has been an off-white since we painted it from the original hideous yellow it was when we moved in 7 years ago. I'm not sure if we'll also need to repaint the other walls once we've done the chimney breasts but will make a judgement then!
We went to B&Q this morning to choose some tester colours. I'd liked Dulux 'Denim Drift' and was hoping to get something similar.
I loved the huge range of paint chips and how easy it was to choose and compare colours from these. With input from DH and DS, I went for British Shorthair, Peaceful Panorama and Sea Dog and got tester pots in each of those colours.
I'm going to try them out tomorrow and then see how each looks at different times as the light changes so dramatically in the living room throughout the day.

Love your stairs Ally not sure we can pull off that colour but we also have a stairway with walls on both sides and it can be really dark (and also really boring as it's just a corridor rather than any sort of feature). Was wondering about going bold and you've given me a great taster!

I might also be addicted to the tester cards and sticking them up around the house Grin

I had wonderful service from Bob in the B and Q. My son had asked for green paint and there was lots to choose from. I was able to get advice about which shades to pick if I wanted to warm the room up. I also got advice about which finish to choose. Not only did we get advice but they showed my son what colours would go into making the green. He also got his own sticker from the lovely paint expert. The advice I got was great. I do like the light boxes that allow you to see what a shade would look like in different lights but the best advice I got was from the paint expert there.

The one thing he did tell me was not to scrub the paint for 14 days after which is would easily become cleanable. I have not seen this mentioned in other reviews but feel this would be an important fact for someone to know. I am not sure if this is an individual store recommendation based on experience or not.

I decorated my sons room. Partly because it had been decorated with pencil marks and nappy cream etc over the years.

Valspar Premium Blend v700 is a nice thick paint. Although initially I thought it would be patchy it has dried to a nice even colour. It has given a nice finish. Very pleased with the result.

I would use this paint again. I was very impressed with the range of colours and finish but was more impressed with the expert advice I got in store. It allowed me to pick the best colour and finish for what I needed.

I have included my before photo but will have to wait till daylight to get a good after photo.

1.How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
We had a look through the brochure sent with our vouchers and decided on tropical smoothie as the colour for our daughters bedroom. When we went to get the paint, we took a swatch of the curtain fabric and once we held this under the various light displays next to the paint chips we changed our mind about the colour and went for Buttercup. It took sometime to find an staff member to help us. Eventually I located someone on the kitchen dept who put out an announcement to request someone to come to the Valspar desk. When the staff member arrived he explained that he didn't really know what he was doing but he would try. I explained which paint we had chosen and he set about programming the machine. He had to call for assistance at one point. After 35minutes we were handed our paint pot. I was reassured by the staff member that it was all correct.
We took this with the brushes and rollers set to the tills and paid.
I found choosing the lights and paint display really helpful when choosing the colour. The staff member made me feel anxious that the paint might not be right and it was frustrating to have to wait so long. If i was paying for this myself i would have probably gone else where. We are very happy with the paint colour we have chosen.

2.Which room did you decorate and why?
We were moving our daughter to a bigger bedroom and wanted to decorate this room for her. We were keen for a bright sunny colour as its a north facing room and as she's only 18months old we wanted something fun.

3.Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
We found to application of the paint easy and smooth. It had great coverage and we thought we could get away with one coat but to be through and as we had plenty of paint we did the recommended two coats. The colour is true to the colour chip and looks great. The finish is very professional and we are very pleased with how it looks. It has masked small imperfections and looks smooth.
4.Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
We would definitely use Valspar again. It was a great product. We've always used Dulux previously but found this to be much easier to apply and with better results

I chose to paint the kitchen as it had been yellow for many years and was a bit grubby and in need of tlc! I chose the colour as it is my favourite colour and I thought I would go bold! I took a sample of the colour to match in B&Q but as it was a spherical object it didn't scan very well. The assistant was very helfull though and showed me the huge number of green samples - I found the perfect one. It only took 2 minutes to mix. The paint was thick enough to give a good coating, just needed two coats, was very quick to dry and has given a great coverge. I chose Matt finish and it looks superb. I would definitely use Valspar again instead of my usual Dulux - and especially their own brushes - they are fantastic quality especially for painting edges and corners. The roller seemed less wasteful than my usual rollers - and far easier to clean. Highly recommended. Thank you!
