This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

Perhaps you could also copy and paste MNHQ's latest post about what they will and will not accept in terms of thread content so we all know from the start?

Also I don't understand why we can't "quote" from Facebook confused. Is that a mn rule for all threads or just this one? I can understand the screenshotting, because it can identify people.....

I agree. By quoting people we aren't providing names and there's no photographs of their identity etc so wasn't sure what the issue is? It's not as if anything we quote from them is going to be negative about C&C is it?!

I got a response to my complaint to Heart.

"Morning Coffee [yup, got my name wrong].

Thank you for your email earlier with regards to our coverage of the Charlie Gard story.

We take all feedback very seriously and I understand where your concern has come from, however we need to run a variety of opinions and voices with all our stories and each hour these change as due to the set-up of our news we cannot run every opinion/expert every hour.

Our intention with running the clip was not to encourage other people to call the hospital, it was to put across another opinion after already running a legal expert (7am) and a pro-life campaigner (6am) to help us report all sides of this case.

Yesterday, we also ran a story all morning about the threats to staff at GOSH, including clear lines condoning the actions of people who called the hospital and made threats from those involved in the case.

I hope that clarifies this a little more.

Many thanks for your feedback."

Shortly followed by a second email:

"To clarify one point – The audio running was not condoning the behaviour.

It was audio specifically speaking out against the behaviour of those calling and threatening staff."

I'm not satisfied but I think it's not worth the hassle.

Those MNHQ guidelines are ridiculously amorphous and vague.

Writerwannabe83 See the OP.

No worries to those saying thanks for the new thread.

I cannot seem to locate the Skyfeed I had followed previously. Can someone point it out and then I;m ready to Tweet away when in session.

I can't see how factual tweets can be censored.
It's 'in the news' surely?
On the Grenfell Tower threads there were links to statement made by various emergency service representatives as the tragedy was unfolding- no hint of censorship then and I can't see how the situation then could have been considered less sensitive or volatile.

By the way news on Classic FM have just announced that today is the day Charlie's parents could find out whether he's allowed to go to the States for experimental treatment.
Is going abroad really still on the table?

I am equally confused Yamayo - it seems odd that the BBC corespondent would be reporting for someone else?! (although I will confess that I don't understand twitter at all - I have just about worked out that I can watch certain pages without being signed up, but I have to keep them open as tabs on my phone so I don't lose them as I doubt I'd be able to find them again!)

I believe it's more anything that isn't factual Maryz It's criticsm etc of GOSH, parents etc. The court, is neutral.

Thanks for the new thread. Just placemarking so I can follow proceedings this afternoon. Thinking of everyone involved today, most of all Charlie.

BBC news just had a wee clip of Dr Ravi and also showed a pic of the outside of the court which had a mere handful of people - more balloons than people to be honest. I hope for everyone's sake it stays that way and C&C are given peace today from "supporters" and tormentors alike
