The Last Jedi - spoilers and discussion?

If you've seen it, come here!

I m a bit sad about there being no more related characters. Dd thinks the kid at the end is a relative of Obi but I can't see how.

Loved the ending with Luke but I was surprised all the old guard have now gone.

Hated the hamster like creatures. It feels like R2D2 was 'cute' so they try to include 'cute' in the films.

Was obvious Kylo Ren and the killing of his enemy.

I loved every second.

No actually - not true - didn't like/get the bit in the "place of darkness" on the island where there were all the mirror images. (bit Harry Potter)

Do you think we know the truth about Rey's parent's yet?

Felt weepy about Carrie Fisher. Loved Laura Dern's character.

And Ade Edmondson

I don't think he told her the truth about her parents.

Just back so still digesting the rest. But I LOVED ren and Rey fighting together.

No I keep wondering / I think Kyle knows - maybe they are twins and that's why he is so screwed up?

Agree about the mirror - very Harry Potter. I didn't really understand that bit - literally The Dark Side ?

Really, really enjoyed it, especially the Rey/Kylo dynamic and scenes. The fight scene was fab, but think those red blokes were solely in the film for that! Because storm troopers are a parody so not scary anymore!

Many fantastic performances, especially Adam Driver.

Mark Hamill was great, and Luke was still very Luke! Annoying, earnest and stubborn but does some cool Jedi tricks.

V sad to see Carrie fisher when she's gone. Poignant storyline too.

I think it was the truth about rey's parents: Kylo said, she knew deep down.Think part of the point of that and the boy at the end is that anyone, a nobody, can be a powerful Jedi.

Hard to see how the rebels will survive and bring down the first order: perhaps Kylo will turn and bring it down from within?

It seemed to be implied that Poe is "force sensitive" in the bit where he and Leia felt a ripple in the force.

The only bit that didn't convince me was rose falling for Finn. She is a great character and so is he, but it just didn't ring true for me.

I don't really like Finn thinking about it. It was a bit weird in a class structure way the Rose/Finnthing.

In what way?

I like Finn, and his story arc has had similarities to Han Solo.

would love to see Finn/Poe getting together!

Loved it. Sobbed myself stupid at the end due to Luke and then knowing Carrie is gone too.

I thought the boy at the end symbolised the next generation of hope not necessarily a Jedi.

I though at then end in the Falcon the Jedi books were in a drawer. Maybe.

I found Kylo really attractive Wink

Loved it and will have to go a couple more times to let it all sink in.

Mark Hamill was NOT great - he overacted every scene! And Finn was underused, given his comic timing in his first film. Everything else pretty cool.

Surprised that it was Luke and not Leia who died. But Carrie Fisher's death means that Leia will die early in the next film, and it also means the ghost of Luke will be hanging around more in the next film, too.

Dozer Finn/Poe huh? You're making me want to head over to A03!

I'd be more Kylo/Poe 😎

What is AO3?

I had kind of assumed that Finn/Poe was a thing; but in this latest film Finn goes round kissing girls. Maybe Kylo/Poe is the way to go.

AO3 = Archive of Our Own - fan fiction.

Fin and Poe v nice I'm sure but I do like a bad guy so Kylo / Fin or Poe would work (or both if you like Wink)

I used to like Han/Luke.

This is another thread though.

I'm thinking the clever story arc I was hoping for is not going to happen.

RJ - what was that?

I don't know I thought Rose and Finn were stuck together in a kind of 'below stairs' way.

I wonder if Mark Hamill wanted very little to do or if they didn't really want him! One scene in the last one and a death in this one.

What was that RJ?

Agree that the comedy wasn’t great in this one.

Interesting that Leia has given up on her son but Rey hasn’t.

Some of the new Force stuff - walking through space, projecting the physical self - was cool but some hardcore geeks might object . Yes the jedi books were in the drawer at the end.

Rey has still had bugger all training!

I read an article where Mark Hamill was speaking very frankly. I sure I remember him saying that he disagreed with almost every choice that the director/writer Rian Johnson made for Luke, but still admired the director.

Is it ok to say?

Based on some stuff from the first films about the Jedi seeking to return from death, including the end party scene when you see an akin with yoda, I thought kylo was planning to bring Vader back.

In my mind, Vader returns in the last film but tells kylo that the balance in the force must be found in each person, that there cannot be a dark and a light if the force is truly to balance, there's on helluva great fight scene in there somewhere, andboth him and Rey realise it's not an either or and use their powers to maintain balance.

Cos I reckon he would listen to grandpa Vader. Bit funny how he had worshipped the helmet in the first one then this one went on about letting the past go.

As yoda turned up I might still be onto something.

My other theory was Rey was Vader reincarnated but I think that is out the window.

Ooh maybe. That would have been exciting.

I missed the storm troopers - they didn't feature much at all.

I do find it hard to keep track of all the characters.

Anakin/Darth could only have had the twins couldn't he?

Leia/Hans only had Kylo/Ben

Like didn't have children

So, end of the original lines?

But vader turned before death and has appeared as a ghost anakin skywalker. I don’t think anyone on thedark side has yet returned from death.

Thank fuck re Luke.

He was like the intergalactic version of Kevin the Teenager for 95% of his screen time.

And I know it's probably a wig, but what boootiful hair Kylo Ren had. He should get a Timotei series all to himself...

I agree....I think Adam Driver must be very talented...there are scenes where he says very little but I still felt very motherly toward him.
Something very dark and sexy about him at the same time.
Not a repulsive character at all....which is saying something given what he strives to be.

I felt the humour was a bit forced in places....you could see the gags being set up.

DID NOT LIKE CASINO WORLD AT ALL!
Pointless removing charismatic John Boyega from the main action...I felt he was really underused in this film.
The storyline with Rose, felt as if it was pandering to the Chinese market- rather than being an organic part of it all.

Overall- I did enjoy it and look forward to seeing it again.
Not perfect but still probably 7/10?

Kylo is growing on me too.

He's stronger than Vader. Vader would never have turned on palpatine would he?

He's very complex too. I do hope the saga doesn't end with his death.

He's kinda outgrown the emo tag! He's probably the only character I thought grew in the film.
