Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

I have done Insanity (also Shaun T), T25, Len Mills Body Pump and have Insanity Max 30 on the way.

Love them! Especially Shaun T, although I often feel like I want to smack him should I bump into him on the street.

I've just restarted T25 this week, as I find the 25 mins (plus a bit for cool down stretch) easier to fit into my day.

Good luck!

Thankyou! Well done for doing so many, does it get easier? I had a quick look at one of the work outs and really like the idea of the timer bar showing how long left for each exercise and also the overall countdown clock ..wonder if it will help in reality!

Good luck with insanity 30 - sounds like that is somewhere between insanity and t25?

Thinking about doing the stretch dvd tomorrow then following the wall chart/booklet by starting with cardio on monday. Maybe I would be better off just doing the cardio one in a non intense way to work out the moves though.

I'm on week 2 of t25. First week was really hard and I struggled to manage all the work outs. I found doing it 6 days in a row hard. But has been a lot easier this week and I'm seeing more definition in my legs and Tummy already.

I got the T25 (alpha and beta) box-set last Christmas and did it on and off (not following the exact timetable) last year, alternating with my many Jillian Michaels DVDs.

Received the Insanity (original/basic) box-set this Christmas and need to get round to starting it! It's hard to start something new, when you know where you are with your old, familiar stuff!

T25 is awesome! Have you got started yet yumyumpoppycat?

Blush will have to be tonight, I had my alarm set for 5.55 but reset it around 5 as dd had been in and out of my bed. We have had a plumber and tiler here since 8 so not optimal for prancing round the front room in leggings and showering etc!

Purplerain well done for getting the first week done let us know how this week pans out Grin

Sounds hopeful if you thing t25 is awesome Jackster - I need to start today!

T25 is good as it shows you the modifications of the moves too (although Tania annoys me immensely). It's just a lower impact version of whatever move the rest are doing, but it means you're still doing something rather than resting, albeit a bit easier.

Also good if you have knee problems as no jumping.

I love and hate that timer - it's good when it's below 10, but up til that point it make me want to cry at times! Grin

What is T25?

Yikes, looks scary. I've seen adverts for the insanity workout, how does it compare in intensity?

I did the cardio workour! woo hoo...it was easier than the shred workouts I thought, but my knees are a little sore now. Only problem was that I had forgotten that I have a bit of a problem with jumping jacks...think tenalady...I will prob have to do the modifier for any jumping jacks but will really have to properly look into pelvic floor stuff...boo! That aside I enjoyed the pace and the way the exercises build towards getting harder and the time went more quickly than I expected ... so thumbs up!

MsInga I felt like I had had a workout, but not like I was going to collapse Grin

Yay well done poppycat! Smile

I did the t25 alpha cardio yesterday too.

I found the fast pace quite hard when I first started - much quicker than any of the Jillian Michaels workouts, and with no breaks at all, even to grab a quick sip of water! The exception is Speed 1.0, which has some v welcome stretching "breaks".

Re t25 vs Insanity - I have yet to start the Insanity DVD but have done s few classes - main difference is Insanity is longer but with breaks, whereas t25 is relentlessly non-stop for 25 mins - both of which have advantages and disadvantages!

I just did my last workout of week 2. Was the abs one. I can't imagine ever being able to get thru it and do all the moves - im post c section so have no abs at all (yet!)

I heard that insanity was really hArd. No way I could do an hour every day without ending up dead. 25mins is enough!

yumyumpoppycat · 13/01/2015 23:19

Abs are my weak point too purple, some times my tummy muscles go all weird if I just sit the wrong way!

So speed 1.0 was fun except the last 5 minutes I was firmly in Tania mode and clock watching mode. I actually think some of the men at the back look less energetic than her though why arent they doing the modifier?

Jackster I think I struggle with JM because I am a total weakling! The mix of the weights and pushups combined with my nemesis star-jumps etc - I can do maybe 1 proper pushup then I collapse like a jelly! The other thing is I like it that the work out changes each day with T25 as I get totally bored repeating the same routine x10 with shred and lose count where I am etc.

I was fine with the low jacks so that's good news, but I had made sure I went for a wee before starting ...sorry tmi
but someone out there might read this and thank me Wink

I like shaun but sometimes he does really intense stares!

I weighed myself this am - Ive lost 4lbs in 2 weeks! Im still breast feeding so this is probably the max I should be losing per week. Hooray!

Glad you're enjoying it poppy. My first go at the cardio left me begging for a rest after 3mins! That countdown clock is not motivational when you know you're knackered and still have 22mins to go

yumyumpoppycat · 14/01/2015 09:29

Oh well done purplerain that is fab and double triple extra kudos for doing it while breastfeeding Grin well not literally that would be dangerous..

Oh well done purple, great stuff!

poppycat, shoulders are my weakness too! Warning, then: you won't like "total body circuit" as it's plank-and-push-up-tastic! Did it yesterday and it's quite nasty (the beta cycle equivalent is actually much less horrible as it's with weights rather than own body weight stuff!)

WILL get round to unwrapping Insanity this week!

Oh and ps agree re Tania! I follow her on FB and she is proper hardcore. But of course it had to be the "mom" doing the modified moves! Wink

Report
yumyumpoppycat · 14/01/2015 10:31

Ah that explains it...also explains why she has so much energy left for all the grinning!

Nervous about planktastic work out eek... but do want a bit of a challenge I don't have any of the usual new exercise thigh burn going on.

Actually shrink wrap can be a pain to take off so fiddly to get the little corners up but you can do it! I have had dvds like that, namely a postnatal pilates one still in its wrap when my dd2 was 3!

Right. I did it. Insanity fit test (25 min) and first 25 mins of the Plyo cardio workout done. Holy crap! It made even the Speed workouts from T25 look slow!! BUT, unlike T25, you are very much encouraged to go at your own pace and take breaks as needed - which will take some getting used to, as I like to know exactly what is expected of me in a DVD workout and don't like the pressure of any autonomy! Grin

Interestingly, after what we were saying about Tania earlier, she totally gets to be The Badass One in Insanity, and kicks the other guy's butt in the fit test.

Question: just did total body circuits. Urgh. Is it better to do fewer (about 2!) full press ups or try to keep up doing half press ups? I never know and press ups never get easier!
I hate that squat/burpee combo too. At least I managed proper burpees this time tho

Report
Imwoodword · 15/01/2015 10:32

I did Total Body Curcuits this morning too, I hate pike ups. They're horrible.

I tend to start with the full moves and then modify as and when necessary.

I did P90X the year before last (results on my profile photos).

Loved it, but wasn't working so had time to do it.

Started working so needed something a bit shorter and with less set up - started Insanity in June last year and have done it every day since (bar a couple of weeks holiday here and there, and a few days off when sick).

Am now back to what I looked like post P90X, and the fittest I have ever been (but then I hope I would be, having done Insanity for over 6 months!)

I upped my game on the 1st Jan as wanted to be super slim and strong for skiing at the end of the month, so have done double Insanitys here and there this month, as well as Zone diet.

Have lost 3 kg in 16 days - still 1.4kg to go before skiing (or that is the goal I set myself on Jan 1st).

Love Insanity and you get so into a rhythm that you feel rubbish if you go 2 days without doing a workout.

Moving from Month 1 to Month 2 is a killer though as the workouts get 15 mins longer, and are harder!

Wow Boobz, impressive stuff! Can't even begin to imagine double Insanity!

Have done a full insanity workout and AM STILL STANDING. Woo hoo! Once I had accepted that i wasn't going to be able to keep up all the time and would have to take some breaks, and that that was ok, it wasn't that bad. Quite heartening to see some of the DVD participants sprawling on the floor looking puce (and not the kind of fake grimacing you see on some workout DVDs, but seriously knackered) towards the end too! Grin

Endorphin-fuelled high-fives to Imwood, purple and poppycat and anyone else I've missed!

(Oh and ps I have the same dilemma with push-ups - I tend to try to stay up on my feet for as long as poss and then drop to my knees - even though I know I can get my arms/chest lower when on my knees - but don't know if that's the right call! Confused)

Report
Purpleraindeer · 15/01/2015 18:36

Will struggle on trying to do full push ups for a bit longer then. Maybe one day I'll actually be able to get my chest to the floor....

Good effort with the insanity DVDs. Is it the same style of exercise as t25 but longer/harder? I'm not sure
I could fit in 45mins per day and then an hr per day for the second half. I know that is only 20mins above what I currently do, but naps here are quite short so I'm not sure Id get through each DVd in time.
