Brexit

Is it me or is no Brexit looking a whole lot more likely tonight?

If no deal is pretty much off the table following the parliamentary votes tonight then the choice is ‘shit deal’ or no Brexit.

It’s clear which Remainers would prefer but what about Leavers?

Hopefully the whole sorry mess can be called off. Can not imagine how May will get out of this unscathed.

Fingers crossed, yes.sadly I am prepared to be disappointed and we end up going.

A no deal isn't off the table. It's less likely but still very much a possibility, it's the default position

Although it is technically the default position, haven’t the EU have said A50 could be extended (if it wasn’t revoked first) if the outlook changed ie, a second referendum /GE was on the horizon.

Yes but we'd need to get to a GE or 2nd referendum first. The ERG still haven't played their cards.

The ERG haven’t got any cards - as demonstrated by their failure to get the required 48 letters to topple TM.

There's a school of thought that this helps May get her deal through. Those dickwipe twats in the Tory party will back her rather than risk No Brexit by not backing her.

True, but it’s it’s a worse situation than no Brexit.

If noone is going to be happy with shit deal then they might as well make some people happy with no Brexit.

Parliament has taken back control from the ERG
there is hope (only a glimmer but a lot better than it was a few weeks ago)

That is one of the sensible things I've seen written in a while.

Parliament will not let No Deal happen. I'm even more convinced of that now.
My perfect outcome is a second referendum with only TM Deal or No Brexit as the options. I think EU would pause A50 for that. And then common sense prevails and we get No Brexit. Lots of noise and maybe some big political changes afterwards but No Brexit.
But that's just my dream . I'll take TMDeal if it means No Deal is off the table.

We might end up with no Brexit but it won't be over.

Brexit will become the 'stab in the back' conspiracy and will be used to blame everything for years.

It will be decades before we recover from this fiasco.

Much as I’d like a no Brexit, the national humiliation and outcry would be too great. It looks like Norway + is the way forward

Seeing as the Leavers can't agree on May's deal or No deal, it's looking like no Brexit has the majority now anyway.

No.
Admitting we were wrong and stepping back from the brink would show that the UK is a strong and mature democracy.
Cancelling Brexit would show populists that if they talk bullshit they will get found out and lose in the long run.

The EU, much of the UK and most of the rest of the world except Putin would be DELIGHTED if we
just called the whole thing off

Decades to recover no matter what happens... almost.

A resounding Remain Result in another Referendum is the best case scenario. Won't happen. But it's technically the path to shortest nightmare.

My primary focus is that today, hopefully, means the chances of a No Deal crash out - with food shortages and lack of medicines - are pretty much dead in the water. That's something to celebrate, IMO.

Other stuff, whether it's Norway+ or (even better) calling the whole sorry mess off, would just be icing on the cake.

After issuing dire warnings of a no-deal, it was never possible May could allow a no-deal brexit.

However, i'm not quite sure that her deal will not get through and then we are into a 2 year plus period of uncertainty, followed by God alone what :(

The Grieve amendment will force the ERG to come on board, then all she needs is the DUP and she is home and dry.

There’s enough predicted Tory rebels without the ERG isn’t there?

I'm feeling far better tonight than I have done for a while.

May has no majority for anything - the DUP have left her behind.

I think no deal is not an option after Grieve's amendment.

May's WA is dead in the water.

We may have some further periods of uncertainty but not as bad as if no deal was still on the table.

Admittedly the next few days will make interesting watching.

If Brexit is not delivered, then there WILL be riots and rightly so. Over 1.25 million more people voted to leave, than remain. If the remoaners think Brexit can be stopped then they are more fucking stupid than I thought. We are leaving the E.U. get over it!

Most Leavers are too old to riot aren’t they, Jaguar?

I think you can guarantee that there will be riots from EDL thugs and the like. I doubt if others will riot. Farage hasn't been successful in getting out large numbers of people for his cause.

1.25 million people was two and a half years ago. Come January, with elderly Leavers dying and younger likely Remainers coming onto the Electoral roll, the position is likely to reverse. In a democracy people are allowed to change their minds.
