Is this an okay name?
I am worried that she will be asked "Is your brother Hansel?" all her life...
It is not my fave name but I just want other's opinions

Why on earth are you worried? It’s not your baby Hmm

The name is fine.

Your brothers choice, not yours.

Gretel is a perfectly fine name, unusual but nothing wrong with it.

Brother and sil probably have a much more regular list of names, but keeping it to themselves, and are usually Gretal as their default name if anyone asks.

I quite like it- I prefer just Greta
But german ‘stronger’ sounding girls names are coming into fashion again.

Jeez. I'd struggle to hide my WTF face but I guess their baby, their choice. Poor kid!

I like it. I don't think you need to worry.

Isn't she also one of the von trap girls? I think it's pretty

Um yes, she will get a bit of that, and it’s twee... but it’s up to them isn’t it. There are worse names. It’s a nn for Margaret/Margarite so I suppose you could suggest they use that as a full name to give her options?

Beautiful name.

I'd put my polite face on and say 'that's lovely'.

She'll definitely get a lifetime of Hansel gags though.

Its bloody awful.
His baby though so just do the smile and nod thing and if he asks your opinion, lie.

She will. Of course she will. But it’s not the worst thing in the world and she’s not your child.

This. Bloody hell it's hardly the most hurtful thing to be asked! It's quite sweet.

I really don’t like it, but they won’t change their mind just because you don’t like it so I’d Just nod along and say how ‘different’ it is.

I like it but wouldn't use it
I would put money on them " shortening" it to Greta

It’s lovely, I can’t imagine anyone commenting adversely on it.

This is prime “It’s lovely” territory imo Wink. Not your baby OP. Fine to vent on here though.

If you'd come on and said it was for YOUR baby, everyone would be slating it.
