...with Edie as nn.

Had mixed reactions in rl.

Interesting names! I quite like them actually! Slightly prefer edie to Meredith but at the end of the day it's totally yours and DP decision. Stuff everyone else!

MeAndCoolioDownByTheSchoolYard Mon 04-Jan-16 01:11:51

I don't like Meredith. It gives me a prissy 'virtue name' vibe like Verity etc. Which isn't a good thing. Plus that tiresome moose from Grey's Anatomy.

Edie is much better. The one I know is just Edie.

smileygrapefruit Mon 04-Jan-16 01:14:01

Oh I don't watch Grey's anatomy. Is that an instant leap when you hear it?

INeedNewShoes Mon 04-Jan-16 01:14:12

I know a lovely Meredyth, nickname Merri. I like both names.

HooseRice Mon 04-Jan-16 01:15:34

Prefer Edith as the long name for Edie. Meredith reminds me of the murder in Italy.

smileygrapefruit Mon 04-Jan-16 01:16:42

Ahh, see I don't like merri but I guess they decide what they choose to be called when older?!

smileygrapefruit Mon 04-Jan-16 01:17:36

Haha murders and moose...poor child!

HeadDreamer Mon 04-Jan-16 01:23:51

I think greys anatomy too. But that shouldn't matter as it is not a kids show.

Pretty name btw.

ifigoup Mon 04-Jan-16 01:24:24

I like Meredith. It sounds American to my ear. Edie is sweet, but for me not the most natural nickname from Meredith.

ZenNudist Mon 04-Jan-16 01:34:22

Like. Pretty, classic, not overdone.

NeedsAsockamnesty Mon 04-Jan-16 01:49:28

I rather like it. You may think that me liking it is not a good thing

sooperdooper Mon 04-Jan-16 01:54:01

I love it, only ever known one Meredith and she was fantastic! Massively underused, without being too try hard.

I wouldn't worry about a nick name now though, let that come naturally.

smileygrapefruit Mon 04-Jan-16 02:10:52

A little mixed but mostly positive so far...My DH actually picked it, he didn't like anything else, and I wasn't convinced at first but it really has grown on me and I love it! In rl it seems to have got really positive reactions or a hmm oh right...

I don't know any other Meredith.

duckduckquack Mon 04-Jan-16 02:14:28

I definitely thought Greys Anatomy immediately but who cares, it's a lovely name. And as an alternative nn you could have Meri (like merry). Go for it!

ItWorks Mon 04-Jan-16 02:23:57

I think Meredith is horrible, sorry.

Marcipex Mon 04-Jan-16 08:52:32

Love it, I know a charming girl called this.

redhat Mon 04-Jan-16 08:54:29

I watch greys anatomy and they all call the Meredith character "Mer/Mare" which isn't a great shortening but is the inevitable one.

GladysTheGolem Mon 04-Jan-16 08:56:54

I hate the character in Greys (she's a whingey, boring git) but love the name!

Noggie Mon 04-Jan-16 09:02:32

I love the name and like Merry or Edie nicknames - BUT I do immediately think of the poor girl murdered in Italy sad like greys anatomy and the Meredith in it so that wouldn't put me off.

Leigh1980 Mon 04-Jan-16 09:06:12

Edie definitely. Meredith reminds me of that horrible woman in Parent Trap!

wigglesrock Mon 04-Jan-16 11:49:22

I never thought I liked Meredith but we have one in our extended family and it's really grown on me - its lovely. She occasionally gets Mere and she used to get Merry as a child.

I'm not as fussed on Edie as a nickname, to my ears its very trendy Wendy at the minute - it seems to be the "alternative" celebrity baby name of choice.

timelytess Mon 04-Jan-16 11:50:08

Meredith is great, Edie is horrible.

Fabsolutely Mon 04-Jan-16 11:56:04

I like Edie. Meredith sounds sensible and a bit joyless.

Hadron21 Mon 04-Jan-16 11:57:04

Beautiful name. Also love Merry nn.
