Had mixed reactions in rl.

I like it 😊 it was on our list, but I followed the kercher murder too closely to use it myself. Go for it, let's face it there are some HORRIFIC names in this section!!!

CPtart · 04/01/2016 14:18

Meredith is a lovely name, in its entirety.

MurlockedInTheCellarHelpUs · 04/01/2016 14:22

It's a lovely name, and if my current bump was a girl it's what we had chosen. Sadly I don't think I'll get to use it now!

NHKX2 · 04/01/2016 14:29

I like it :)

kimlo · 04/01/2016 14:32

I like it, the Meredith I Know is only ever called by her full name.

mackinnonka · 05/01/2016 15:47

My niece is called Meredith and I think its really nice, however none of us shorten it to anything I think its nice in full :)

(but then I think if you plan to shorten a name you may as well just use the shorter version from the off...?)

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/01/2016 15:57

Edie is lovely, Meredith sounds a bit prissy.

Coral2094 · 07/01/2016 19:12

Meredith is beautiful, love it - nice sound and very elegant

CormoranStrike · 07/01/2016 19:35

I love Meredith and Edie, buy cannot work out the connection.

villainousbroodmare · 07/01/2016 19:37

Love Meredith. Doubt I'd shorten to Edie.

Muskey · 07/01/2016 19:38

I like it but it does depend how it's pronounced

FatimaLovesBread · 07/01/2016 19:43

I have one and we get lots of positive comments. She sometimes gets called Merry. She's definitely not prissy or sensible and joyless Grin

FreezerBird · 07/01/2016 19:51

How close to Wales are you?

Because to me, Meredith is the anglicised spelling of the boy's name Meredydd, which is pronounced with the emphasis on the 'red' in the middle. I know male Meredydds shortened to Mered and Meds.

I've met one female Meredydd, pronounced as above.

Meredith as a girl's name, with the emphasis on the first syllable, sounds American to me.

Not that any of this matters, but you might want to bear it in mind if you're in, say Herefordshire or other order country!

If I met an Edie (which is lovely) I's assume they'd shortened Edith (also lovely!).

FreezerBird · 07/01/2016 19:52

*border, not order!

JenniferAnistonsHair · 07/01/2016 21:43

Meredith is a beautiful name!!

PattyPenguin · 07/01/2016 21:49

Agree with FreezerBrid, Meredith is most definitely a male name. It's from Maredudd, the second element means 'lord'.

Whatsername24 · 07/01/2016 22:01

It's a lovely name! Not keen on Edie though (even though it was my lovely Grandmother's name, short for Edith). I know someone who recently called their daughter Eden which I think is really lovely but they've taken to calling her Edie as a nn.

smileygrapefruit · 09/01/2016 23:44

Ok, thanks for all your feedback. I know it was originally a male name but pretty sure it's more widely accepted as a female name now.

Love it- not sure edie naturally flows as a nickname from it, but go for it.

pieceofpurplesky · 10/01/2016 00:11

Love Edie. I always think of Meredith in a welsh accent and I have no clue why.

ShmooBooMoo · 10/01/2016 00:16

I like it. Doesn't it mean 'from the sea' or something? It's pretty and Edie as a nickname is not too much of a stretch (both nice names).

WutheringFrights · 10/01/2016 00:23

I love it, but might be slightly biased as I have one and she suits her name perfectly. We have never shortened it though.
People seem to have positive reactions to it in rl.

hellsbells99 · 10/01/2016 00:46

Sorry I am also with Freezerbird on this. The only Meds I know is male.

Aftershock15 · 10/01/2016 00:52

I wanted Meredith for a girl, but dh said we would end up with a fat depressed teenage goth and calling her Merry would just be wrong.

Instead we only had boys so never had to agree on a girls name.

CH0510 · 10/01/2016 05:18

IMO, it sounds very old fashioned... I wish it didn't! I love Eden or Edith though :)
