on Sunday went to a local country fair

was watching a bloke with no shirt, tattoos and baseball cap and bad teeth play with his 8 year old and 12 year old

they were chucking hay from the hay bales over each other

saw another bloke point to his little girl, of about 18 months, and say something (couldn't hear what but assume asking him to be careful)

Chav proceeded to f' and blind and scream at the father for about 5 minutes, gesticulating wildly whilst his children looked on with gleeful laughter

father and toddler with mother and slightly older child just got up and left

chav, disgusting foul bloke, ruining it for everyone

we left

Sorry, you've not made it quite clear enough...... did this oaf happen to be working class?

was that in SE London

There were several such specimens at Lambeth. Yelling f* at their children at the top of their voices. 6 mo baby clad in arsenal strip, etc.

It was unedifying.

I don't think he had any class at all actually

Why use the word chav ( a word I hate) selfish prick sounds more like it.

Report
whywhywhy · 25/07/2007 12:34

don't think it's being working class in itself. My parents are working class- it's something different, a new phenomenon.

Tortington · 25/07/2007 12:34

oh - gosh darn it - i have always been wrong - its RUDE tatooed people hat constitute a 'chav'

So, do only chavs dress their kids in football shirts?

Report
Fireflyfairy2 · 25/07/2007 12:35

Or is it just because it was Arsenal?

Report
whywhywhy · 25/07/2007 12:36

No. But there's a certain phenomenon near where I live- really foul mouthed little boys all wearing Arsenal strip (never Chelsea, occasionally Crystal Palace). I don't know why but it's noticeable.

JeremyVile · 25/07/2007 12:36

WWW, what is unedifying to you about how someone dresses their baby?

I'm assuming you weren't just pointing that out as some crass stereotype?

Report
whywhywhy · 25/07/2007 12:37

I know nil about football but it probably is something to do with Arsenal

Report
Fireflyfairy2 · 25/07/2007 12:38

Ergo: any child wearing an Arsenal strip is a chav?

Report
mamazon · 25/07/2007 12:40

Ds has both chelsea and Arsenal strips.
Dd had the England kit during the world cup/euro cup thing and would have been about 10 months.

i have a tatoo, im working class, i come from SW London

guess im a chav then

Report
Tortington · 25/07/2007 12:42

it a derogatory term for people who don't wear boden.

Report
Tortington · 25/07/2007 12:42

irony anyone

Report
Carnoodleusfudge · 25/07/2007 12:43

Mamazon - there is nothing wrong with being working class but I don't think it makes you a chav. They are not the same thing.

Report
Carnoodleusfudge · 25/07/2007 12:43

So are Crocs chav or not?

Report
HuwEdwards · 25/07/2007 12:43

I am working class

I have never worn Boden

I am a chav

God, that feels good - liberating.

I urge you all to try it

Honestly, these threads are really starting to grate.

It goes without saying that any right thinking person would hate to see a child being sworn at, hit, treated like rubbish etc etc,

but you can just sense the glee before posting "ooh this'll get me some brownie points. i'll chuck in a couple of tattoos, foul language, crap food and maybe a Fruit Shoot for good measure"

Its pathetic and desperate and disingenuous.

WTF is wrong with using a term as a catch-all for people exhibiting horrific attitudes

I think chav fits quite nicely actually

I am not sure that man Twigg was necessarily a chav - obviously he had no social skills and I would have been equally as horrified as you and the other family
