AIBU?

AIBU to say no to house viewers using my toilet?!

Ok so I’m currently selling my home and I’m astounded by the number of people who ask to use the toilet! I just don’t get it, yeah sure small kids I can understand they can’t always hold it. But surely if you are an adult in strangers home you can hold it and pop into the petrol station/ cafe before or after?! I’m not talking about a downstairs cloakroom, the upstairs family bathroom. I think maybe I wouldn’t mind so much if it downstairs and just the toilet. Hmm
I hate strangers using my loo... AIBU?! Please tell me I’m not alone

I think people ask so they can check it flushes properly and that the taps don't leak some modern toilets have pathetic flushes ( to save water which it doesn't if you need to flush 2-3 times)

yabu
I always flush the toiletwhen viewing and switch on the shower.

I think it's a bit silly to refuse. They're not asking to try out the bedroom, for heaven's sake. It's a toilet.

Yes, convenient excuse to check water pressure

Yes I hate it too but hard to refuse.. and yes if viewing I would want to check!

Confused

I wouldn't have a problem with that.

They are potentially about to give you tebs or hundreds of thousands of pounds to buy said home. Let them use the loo rather than expecting then to find and use a grotty garage. I'm guessing some of these people have travelled a long way.

If I've invited someone inside my home for whatever reason I can't imagine refusing to let them use the toilet

Why would you?

Yabu. When I was house hunting I would often be rushing from one viewing to another, with no time to find a public toilet. Thanks to a prolapse, my bladder is rubbish.

Either they are checking out the toilets.... or they need a wee. I actually wouldn't buy a house from someone who wouldn't let me use the loo

I was pregnant when viewing houses, we would see lots in one day. If I needed to pee I'd go. Also I like to see what the plumbing is like.
Wees only. No poop

I hate my stupid newfangled 'water saving' loo. You have to flush it at least 3 times!!! I would definitely want to see how the toilet behaves in a prospective new house.

It’s a toilet. Why are you being so precious about a hole that people shit in?

Report
Xmasbaby11 · 28/03/2019 21:59

Yabu. What's wrong with them using it?

Report
GinUnicorn · 28/03/2019 22:00

I was pregnant when viewing and needed every time. They can’t help it and there might not be a chance to go via a petrol station all day if they have lots of appointments. Surely it’s no harm as long as they are polite?

Yabu, I've used toilets when we house hunted, partly to check plumbing but also I just reallt needed the loo as we were going from house to house. And I wouldn't have a problem with someone using my toilet.

I crossed a house off because the owner refused to let my four year old use the toilet. It just felt mean and there were others that felt generous and welcoming.

Can understand trying out the shower and checking the flush, but had a man the other day who left drips on the seat and on the floor round the loo 🤢

YABU.

Firstly, you want these people to give you hundreds of thousands of pounds for your house and you begrudge them a loo visit?

Second, it’s not uncommon for people to have lots of house viewings lined up, and there are rarely public loos in residential areas. Plus your viewer could be pregnant or have a prolapse or whatever!

Third, it’s really not unreasonable for the viewer to want to check the plumbing and water pressure.

I’m currently heavily pregnant and viewing lots of houses.... I’ve had to ask to go for a wee in about 50% of them. It’s a sudden, desperate need and my continence is dubious! Also they’re in residential areas where there aren’t other loos nearby.

We have lots of viewings of our house too.... wouldn’t bother me at all if people needed the loo.

I'm an estate agent and I once was showing quite a large family round an empty house, it must have been one of my first ever viewings that I did alone back in the day when I was training and they were off in different directions and the dad sheepishly came downstairs and told me he had helped himself to the en-suite toilet but hadn't realised the water had been shut off and couldn't flush his poo away Grin

YABU. They're potentially going to be buying your house, if they want to use the facilties it's fine. They've had a good old nosey throughout the place anyway.

Report
ChipSandwich · 28/03/2019 22:05

YABU. It's a toilet. How mean spirited it would be to make somebody wait when there's a working toilet they can use. I can't understand why you'd do this. Weird
