Spelling someone's name wrong on Christmas card every year

Mr and DH and neighbour have been giving each other cards for about 10 years now. Every year without fail she spells my name wrong.

My name can only be spelt 2 ways, with an e or without an e. It's not difficult. Does she not read the card we put through her door to see that I don't spell it the way she writes it?

I know it is silly but it really winds me up. If people don't know me very well then I accept they may spell it wrong and the first year she gave a card I was ok with it. Since then I have not been ok with it.

Mind you she also writes DH's name first and then mine. I was taught that you always put the woman's name first and then the man's.

I get the rage with DH's aunty who every year spells DS2's wrong.

He's been around for 12 years, she has been sent many a card with the correct spelling in, why does she still spell it wrong?!

Have a think about how you could spell her name wrong.

My DSIL used to do it all the time. You could put an I or a Y in my name. When I brought it up I got told I was spelling my name wrong (fuck off, it's a translation from a language that uses a totally different alphabet, the letters used are an approximation....) the following year I got both I and Y..... Sooo, I started to get creative and had fun with misspelling her name.

Sadly I had to stop as she then started to spell my name correctly... I had all sorts of misspellings to still try out!

FIL & his wife have a tendency to put the wrong name entirely. We've been married 13 years, together 16.

My boss spelled my name wrong for 9 years and I worked with him everyday. My new boss also spells it wrong. It's really not that hard. The amount of emails I send daily with it spelled correctly! Everyone else I've ever worked with has managed to spell it right. Also dh's family all spell it wrong, but I don't mind as they are notseeing it spelled right on a daily basis.

So, for a neighbour I think you're being A Bit U.

Yes, mine is with a G or a J spelling. I don't have FB now but people used to write on my FB WALL under the correct spelling of my name, with the misspelt version - arrgghh! Friends I've had for over a decade, also spell my name wrong all the time.

I've had 25 years of Christmas cards with the wrong surname (not just wrong spelling!) from a relative. She's old and it's the only contact we have with her so I cba to do anything about it.

some people just aren't very good at spelling. She means well if she's sending you a card.

I have an awkward name - it resembles another common name so get that a lot, as well as lots of general misspellings. I can’t bring myself to care.

Mountain out of a mole hill.

My own Mum has never in 22 years spelt my eldest daughters name right. It is a very, very common name. We just laugh.

To be honest I do this, I get a spelling so stuck in my head that I believe it's right.

Spell her name wrong, and if she points it out look astonished and say 'Oh did I? Does it matter - I think you're one of the ones who always spells my name wrong so presumably it wouldn't worry you'

Most people spell my name wrong. Its a common name, with 3 different ways to spell it. My spelling is the 2nd most common to be fair, everyone spells it the most common way.

My family do this from time to time too. My own bank card has it spelt wrong, and my driving licence. The bank I can kind of get, they had to spell it wrong because otherwise there wasnt enough space for my first name, initial and surname, although I didnt care if my initial was there. But my driving licence? If I want to get it changed too, I have to pay them! No way am I paying for their mistake. So I just leave it.

My neighbours keep insisting on spelling my name as Clair as apose to Clare. I hate it, but you can't say something without looking like a crazy crank, can you

Dhs best mate and his wife are ds godparents and still write an entirely wrong name on his birthday cards. He is eleven!! It pisses me off so damn much.

My aunt cannot spell my name (and I am 37)

I write it correctly in every Xmas and Birthday card I send her, but alas it must be so ingrained in her mind that I give up. I am not offended, she always remembers my Birthday and writes a lovely, kind message. I can't get upset about it in the grand scheme of things!

That said I do agonise over spelling people's names correctly. This year I have a Molly (or is it Mollie) and Olly (or is it Ollie) that I have had to add to a card new babies and not to the same family

No don't say/do this. You will sound really pathetic.

Once a year, you get a card with the incorrect spelling of your name.

Big wow!!!

It's your neighbour, not a close friend or relative.

I spell my name unusually - I just let it wash over me now. Doesn't really matter in my mind I understand why

I think you are being a bit precious - she is just a neighbour. You are probably not the only person she knows with your name and perhaps one who is closer to her uses the other spelling and that has stuck in her brain. While I generally try to spell people's names correctly, I have long since decided that life is too short to worry about how every Ann/Anne or Tracy/Tracey spells her name.

I get my name spelled wrong every year on Christmas cards including by most of DH family.

Last year his aunt wrote his ex's name instead of mine (we have been together over 10 years!) Angry

My neighbour spelled my name wrong for years. It doesn't bother me. .
If you are not happy about it, maybe you need to mention it to the neighbour.

We had neighbours who would consistently spell all of our names wrong...
DD was the most understandable as her name can legitimately be spelled a number of different ways.
DH's name is spelled the way c. 90% of people with his name use, they spelled it the 10% way.
My name had an extra letter added into the middle (made no difference with pronounciation, but still wrong), and DS's name had all the right letters but in the wrong order so was totally utterly wrong.
I found it funny, and I am sorry they moved!

A good friend of mine managed to spell 3 of 4 names wrong on our Christmas card last year. It was quite funny really and I wonder if she tried to get it that wrong! They're all fairly standard British names and the most common variant of each. I'd say just let it wash over you, it's annoying but not important.

My name is a common name with 3 spelling 1 which is more common now, one which was more common years ago and one which i believe is american.

Even when i send emails with my name correctly spelt and when they have to spell my name correct in order for the email to send to me i have still had my name spelt wrong! TBH i wouldnt worry too much about neighbours or clients spelling it wrong, i did take issue with my sister though!
