AIBU?

To have been upset by this incident? Should I call 101?

Just walking home from work and a man ahead of me pressed the button to cross the road. Heard it starting to beep so I crossed too.

Suddenly the two cars waiting started driving towards me and one was beeping. For a moment I doubted myself but I looked and it was flashing green still for me. They went through the red light.

The man beeping didn't seem to be looking at me and I got the impression (could be wrong) that they may have been racing each other.

The cars behind them didn't move.

Aibu to have been upset by this?

I wouldn't call 101 because I'm not sure what that would achieve and personally, I also wouldn't be upset about it or think about it for a second longer.

What were you upset about?
And why would you call 101? How can they help you or do anything?

I'm not following.

The light was probably amber for them. Impatient feckers. Next time flip them the bird

I was nearly run over with dd in her pram when somebody came through red lights.
I called 101 and even though I had the number plate, they said they couldn't do anything unless I was just.
It is upsetting op but don't waste your time with the police.

If the light was flashing green for you it was an amber light for them, no?

So no one would be upset if 2 cars had gone through a red light when you were crossing the road. It was pretty horrible because I genuinely thought one was going to hit me.

Thanks twoheaped. Really sad that you have to be physically hurt for there to be any consequences of dangerous driving.

If this is a normal crossing they would have been stopped quite close to where you were crossing, is that right? So they can't have gone far before stopping or they would have hit you. I would just move on OP. You are entitled to be upset I get upset at things other people think are no big deal. Doesn't mean you should call the police though.

I could quote the Highway Code to you if you like ... because it seems like you don't know it.

Why would you waste police time with this, mumsnet is obsessed with 101

Just give them the finger and shout wanker as they drive by

Did you get a reg no? If not, I think calling the Police might be a waste of everyone's time - unless there are any conveniently placed CCTV cameras.

What were you upset about?

I'd I think most normal people would be upset/shaken at having two cats race at you whilst your legitimately crossing the road. Stupid comment.

cars not cats! Although cats can be pretty scary too Grin

Or...I'm not in the UK and wondering if its the same as here?
Did you mean to be so rude?

There is zero point in calling 101 unless you got their numbers.

You should have been clearer. In your OP you said they moved towards you but you had time to look at the lights and doubt yourself. Made it sound like they inched slowly at you rather than careering towards you maniacally?

I think you must not start to cross when the green man is flashing but you can continue to cross if it flashes when you are actually on the crossing.

I'd probably be shaken and angry- they sound like cunts.

However unfortunately the police will not be able to do anything due to a lack of evidence- it's not serious enough for them to chase witnesses etc.

Karma will (hopefully!) get them Smile

I'm confused. Your OP sounded like they only moves towards you and hadn't gone through the red light, now they've actually gone past you when you were on the crossing.

If it's the latter, yes, I'd be a little upset (I had someone almost kill me at a pedestrian crossing once and was only saved by a passer by who pulled me back, not before the car clipped me anyway, so I know how scary it can be) but calling 101 would probably be useless.

There's a crossing with pedestrian controlled lights that I go through every day to work. At least once a week, it seems there's a car coming the other way which duly stops when the lights are red but then moves off through as soon as the pedestrian has crossed. The lights are still red- they haven't yet started flashing amber. There are some really thick drivers around unfortunately. Were the lights still red in your case?

Report
Farfromtheusual · 18/08/2017 17:31

If the light was flashing green for you, then it would have been flashing amber for them? Which means if no one is on the crossing they can go. By the sounds of it you were still on the crossing so whilst they were in the wrong please do not bother reporting this to the police and just get over it.
