To have been upset by this incident? Should I call 101?

Just walking home from work and a man ahead of me pressed the button to cross the road. Heard it starting to beep so I crossed too.

Suddenly the two cars waiting started driving towards me and one was beeping. For a moment I doubted myself but I looked and it was flashing green still for me. They went through the red light.

The man beeping didn't seem to be looking at me and I got the impression (could be wrong) that they may have been racing each other.

The cars behind them didn't move.

Aibu to have been upset by this?

Ah I understand now, apologies OP I thought they were stationery at the lights and edging forward impatiently.

YANBU to be upset if you nearly got hit by a car, but no point ringing 101 as they can't do anything about it without any information.

scaryclown · 18/08/2017 18:56

It's without due care and attention as a minimum, the police where I live do phone people up and tell them there's been a report

WooWooSister · 18/08/2017 18:59

The man ahead of OP pressed the button. I'm guessing that's relevant because he'd already cleared most of the crossing before she started to cross. The drivers started to move off because it was a pelican crossing. OP decided to cross when the light was flashing even though the advice is not to cross when the green man is flashing. Everyone ends up unhappy.

FreedaDonkey · 18/08/2017 19:00

Don't be so daft.

lookatyourwatchnow · 18/08/2017 19:27

OP, just move on.

TenForward82 · 18/08/2017 19:52

OP is on a batshit crazy thread roll today.

Redglitter · 18/08/2017 20:11

OP is on a batshit crazy thread roll today

You're not kidding! Just realised which other thread us hers Confused

ScissorBow · 18/08/2017 20:21

Not sure if anyone has cleared up this confusion (slow loading pages) but some pedestrian crossings have flashing amber for driver and flashing green man for pedestrian. Some have flashing green for pedestrian but go straight from red to amber to green for the driver. There's one on my way to drop DD at nursery and I noticed because I was surprised it hadn't flashed it just changed like normal.

So in that case the OP is telling the truth and the drivers went through on red as it only turns to solid amber then solid green for the driver when the man stops flashing green and turns to red for the pedestrian I'm so boring

So yes I'd be shocked and annoyed but no I wouldn't bother calling 101

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 18/08/2017 20:30

Omg the other post of hers 🙄
Makes sense now.

LowShoulder · 18/08/2017 21:55

Not really on to bring up previous threads (unless related to same topic).

PandorasXbox · 18/08/2017 22:03

Hmm that maybe so LowShoulder but it does shed a certain light on things.

TenForward82 · 18/08/2017 22:18

It's useful context, @LowShoulder

WestEndVBroadway · 19/08/2017 09:29

Lowshoulder If you read her other current thread you may see that there are issues that the OP seems to have.

SheSaidHeSaid · 19/08/2017 09:32

it does shed a certain light on things

Agreed, it is somewhat relevant.

Jedimum1 · 19/08/2017 09:38

If it is something that happens often in that area, I'd report it to the council and ask them to put a traffic camera. I'd probably report it anyway, to be honest, common or not. It might have been the first time that it happened to you but maybe they have received comments from other people. Some crossings might encourage bad drivers to act as if they own the road, like straight streets where they feel confident they would see any car coming, etc. Most councils have a website /app to report things around your area that need to be fixed or just suggestions for improvement. Not sure if "Fix my street" app has any feature for that, I'll check

MyOtherProfile · 19/08/2017 09:38

I actually felt sorry for the OP on the other thread. I'd have been upset if I was crossing and the man was still green even if he was flashing and two cars set off. They should have waited til the OP was over the road. Not sure I'd have posted on mn though.

WWYD17 · 19/08/2017 10:51

Do you mean this thread?

MyOtherProfile · 19/08/2017 10:53

Probably.

MadMags · 19/08/2017 11:36
Hmm

I think many people view 101 as the number you ring when someone has been rude or you want to make a point about a neighbour, friend or random stranger. Unless you have evidence of a crime or attempted crime then you are simply wasting someones time. If you are upset go and tell someone who will be sympathetic and have a cup or glass of something. Seriously what do you expect the police to do about this??

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 19/08/2017 14:44

OP there is no point in wasting police time by phoning 101 for this.

I have also read your other thread, you need to listen to what people advise you.

userofthiswebsite · 19/08/2017 14:49

Yeah some drivers seem to think that pedestrians don't have the right to cross the road...

PaddingtonLoverOfMarmalade · 19/08/2017 14:49

You can find out who to report faulty traffic lights to through this website. This can include traffic lights which are badly timed, so don't give pedestrians enough time to cross safely. Faulty traffic lights

Mittens1969 · 19/08/2017 14:52

What is the point of calling 101, OP? They would ask you for details and what would you say? Middle aged man driving a red Ford Mondeo? You'll be asked, 'What was the reg number?'

How do you think the police would cope if everyone who has experienced inconsiderate drivers were to make a complaint?
