No. I don't like it and everyone will say 'Cally-Opp' but it's a perfectly acceptable name!

I think it's lovely.

I think it's nice!

Lovely. And I'd know how to say it too, if that helps.

Don't love it. Don't hate it. She'll be called
Cally though so make sure you like that!

Sounds like a type of melon!!

Report
Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2017 17:43

It sounds like a sort of fruit or animal. I wouldn't. Nobody would ever pronounce it or spell it correctly either.

Nice.

Calliope is one of the muses isn't she?

I think it's lovely and I knew how to say it. Also can be Cally for short if she likes when she's older.

I love all these Greek names coming back into fashion.

Most people will pronounce it just fine.

Hermione in Harry Potter was a great learning opportunity. Grin

Callia and Calla are nicer IMO but it's not my baby Grin

Any Greys Anatomy viewer will know exactly how to pronounce it!

I do love it and think Cally is nice too

Most people will pronounce it just fine.

They really won't.

I like it.... the Greek muse. I'd say prepare for the friends and family talking you out of it.

I think of calliper.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2017 17:45

Never watched Greys Anatomy and I would have pronounced it wrong.

I think it's horrendous, sorry. And the poor kid will have to spend their whole life having to explain how to pronounce / spell it.

Reminds me of the Thomas the Tank engine episode where he has to transport a caliope.

It's a huge loud musical instrument. I think I'd rather find a nicer name for my daughter

I like it but dislike cally. So it's a no from me sadly.

Also, do we really need this shit in AIBU? Isn't there already a whole board for names?

I love Cally but everyone will thinks it's Kelly.

He/she will be called Cal or Callie by their friends when older, which is fine.
Confused older people (like myself!) will think the name is Calico.

It's OK, but IMO a little bit harsh-sounding as a name, sounding like gallopy or jallopy.
