AIBU?

To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

Oh dear that does sound like it could be sore. I have no experience but 💐 Get well soon

What would be the least painful? Pooing or exploding? I really don't know.

Have they offered laxatives to ease the process? It does have to come out eventually, and the sooner the better really while it's still soft. If you hold it in it will go hard and hurt more.

Ouch, YANBU to consider it Flowers

Are you taking stool softeners? I'm a couple of weeks post rectocele repair and was terrified of my first poo and didn't go for nearly a week after my surgery. I was taking docusate and lactulose but that didn't do the trick so added movicol and although it was scary it turned out OK. Best of luck

Drink. A lot. Perhaps not a Wine but a Brew might help. Plus water, fruit juice. Liquid is your friend.

God love you! This reminds me of the dreaded post birth poo.
Take paracetamol and put your feet up on a little stool or something. Don't put it off! Go when you need to and it will be easier. Maybe press something against the area like they say to use a sanitary towel post birth.
Once it's done you'll feel better! Flowers

I was reading something yesterday (google it cos I talk rubbish a lot!) about putting your feet up on a little foot stool as it helps.
After my hysterectomy I was getting so worried that oh and I were actually having a conversation about him giving a helping 'hand' as I was dreading it. Would have thought about just exploding instead too!

I have some fybrogel, paracetamol and ibuprofen. I might dose myself up on all of them now and give it a go. Maybe.

Would a sort of slightly desperately needed but liquid poo explosion be better? I can recommend BOOTEA evening tea for that Smile

Drink a lot and use laxatives. After DD1 was born the midwife rather squeamishly kept asking whether I'd 'passed a motion' She didn't explain why she was asking or explain that laxatives would stop me literally fainting from pain when I did 5 days later. It's my top tip for pregnant mums.

I have a feeling that the post childbirth poos are going to seem like a beautiful, wistful memory compared to this bad boy. A liquid poo explosion sounds fantastic, might have to check out this BOOTEA.

DO NOT allow yourself to get constipated. I did after the same surgery and it was hell. Needed lactulose and suppositories to sort it out Sad

Sat on the toilet.

Bottled it.

Got off toilet.

And don't use Tramadol for the pain.... it made things much worse for me and my GP said he couldn't understand why the hospital consultant prescribed it. Sad

No one told me that morphine bungs you up. I hadn't gone for a week. Then I had a baby by c section. Then I had morphine. Then it was another week.

I cried and cried and cried going to the loo. 16 days end to end. It took weeks to get back to normal :(

You need plenty of strong coffee and a whole bottle of syrup of figs plus whatever else they've given you. One virtual hand hold coming your way. You can do it.

Ok, so aside from lactulose, lots of water etc, when it comes to it, breathing and relaxing will be the thing. Can you try putting your feet up on a stool and breathing in and out to this gif?

Definitely pop your feet up on a kiddy step, it will help. Also, take a drink and a book, settle yourself down and relax, rather than pushing

Report
Buggers · 16/07/2016 20:09

Sooner it's done the sooner you can relax! Play a game on your phone or something with volume up full to try and distract yourself a bit. Don't think about what your doing it'll make it seem worse. Good luckGrin.

If you don't go eventually it will come out of your mouth.

Drink gallons and you can do a bit of light support with a widget of lop roll.

A footstool definately helps. Used one post hysterectomy,

Fig Ativia is a good laxiative too.

Take plenty of water and fruit.

If you are able walk, I find a good walk gets things moving.

Try not to get contipated, agree with Groovee I made that mistake, needed a supositry to get things moving, it was so painful i was physically sick Sad Blush

Poor you Flowers

Was thinking maybe the numbing spray they recommend to help after giving birth? Might ease some discomfort? Or could you use some anusol cream - not sure if they would have set any limitation to what you cannot use

Agree re footstool

Let us know when you've plucked up courage to try again and we can keep you company and not let you leave the loo until you've been

TRIGGER WARNING! GROSS (but effective) Grin Only to be used in desperate circumstances..........

Very old nursing trick might work for you. It's a bit gross, but needs must.....
Nice warm bath, have a soak and relax, then poo while you are still in the bath.

Mission accomplished, you remove the solid bits by 'fishing' them out with a plastic bag with a few small holes in to let the water out. Clean the bath and then take a shower to clean yourself.

I warned you it was a bit gross, but sometimes it was the only way we could get a patient to 'go', in the olden days when people stayed in hospital longer than they do now.
