AIBU?

To wonder what idiot invented scented sanitary pads and tampons?

Because it seems to be getting harder to buy the non-scented kind these days! But honestly, who thought it was a good idea to put something heavily perfumed so fanjo-adjacent? AIBU to think it was probably a man?

And yes, I know I should probably use a mooncup and reusable pads but I'm not quite there yet!

Somebody with fanny fear who saw an opportunity to convince women that they now need perfumed periods.

Probably a man

Yanbu! I was so shocked when my periods returned after having dd that my usual pads are scented. They're horrid and I hate using them.

My money is on the makers of canasten...

Yep, a man or the makers of canesten.

Or both.

I don't know but there's a special level of hell for them Angry

Yes - imagine conversation 'ooh, you smell nice, what is it?', 'thanks, it's my fannypad and it makes my fanny itch like mad'. Who the fuck is buying these?

Oh god I hate them. So disgusting. Who wants a air freshener scented fanny?!

I open the packets in the supermarket in order to sniff them before buying. I can't tolerate artificial smells either. They make me feel sick.

Have a search online to see if there are any other products out there.

It's awful. Also - why would anyone buy them as the scent screams "hello I am wearing some form of sanpro". Maybe that's it. It's a period-pride thing?

Who the fuck is buying these

The poor buggers who picked them up by accident Sad

Totally agree.

I dont want fragranced sanitary protection, not to mention the fact that the fragrances they use are fecking vile >Mmmm, aroma of old lady soap and cheap aftershave...so glad I can't smell my natural self, thank you sanitary towel making people men Hmm>

Yes, it was a man.

When I was at university I was once too embarrassed to go and buy some tampons from the corner shop over the road (I had issues, I know) and my boyfriend decided he was going to start a tampon delivery service for women too embarrassed to go to corner shops (a bit niche...) and also thought it would be a great idea to make them all different colours and patterns. I couldn't even begin to find the words to explain to him why it was such a ridiculous idea (see issues, above)

(I don't have issues any more, in fact I am an evangelical mooncup user - you should definitely get one Grin)

I had this convo with DD1 last night. She gets really bad wind whilst on her period. Added to wearing scented knicker liners the result is literally a perfumed fart. Not good. Thankfully I have a cold and my sense of smell is impaired at the moment.

I actually went to the doctor. I smelled so awful during my period, I was sure I had an infection.

The doctor explained it was the scented towels... Blush

The menstruals will mix with the chemicals and create a stink. Menstruals on its own doesn't smell if you change the pad regularly.

Ugh they all smell horrendous. Who the f*ck is buying them?

It drives me nuts when I can't find un scented and I instantly get thrushy after using the smelly ones

"Oh god I hate them. So disgusting. Who wants a air freshener scented fanny?!"

Well, that depends - do they do them in 'new car smell'?

I haven't seen any. Maybe they haven't reached the outskirts of Europe yet.

I'm probably being really daft here- what's wrong with scented. I choose them over normal ...

I bought Always last week, used two and threw the rest of the packet away. I'll never buy them again.
I've been using own brand for a few years. I couldnt believe how obnoxious the scented ones were, I could smell them outside my jeans.

I think we're going to have to start a campaign because it's becoming harder and harder do find non-scented ones.

Who doesn't know that scent can cause thrush.

I suppose its that they are the equivalent of spraying some really nasty air freshener in your fanjo region?

I was horrified when I heard about this. Who the hell thought this was a good idea??

I'm a mooncup & washable sanpro convert so am very glad I don't have to deal with them.

YANBU!

Something I've often noticed and wondered what AIBU's opinion would be on is the decreasing range of sanitary products on offer at supermarkets. At least in my local, there's one shelf for all women's sanitary products - towels, tampons, pantyliners, and Tena pads - and TWO just for mens' deodorant. And apparently women want scented fannies and to destroy the earth with excess packaging, so they only stock the scented pads and those useful individually-wrapped pantyliners that my DM used to buy 'for travelling'. Hmm Angry

I know that worse things happen at sea. Grin But it does get my goat!
