Surely no one thinks bump parking is acceptable? Especially now parking is easy as new cars all have rear parking cameras with guides.

I see it all the time in London and I've never witnessed it happening to my high end car, but I'm sure the small bumps are caused by it.

Hmm Who's said it's acceptable? I think the only circumstances this is understandable is if you parallel park and then somebody else parks extremely close to you meaning contact is almost inevitable if you're actually to get out. Even then I wouldn't do it.

Incidentally why do we need to know you have an 'high end' car?Hmm

I've never heard of bump parking. Nice that your car is high end though.

cardibach · 26/07/2015 17:28

Also my (not high end) car doesn't have parking sensors.

Stealth boast much?

What's bump parking?

My car doesn't have sensors. It isn't high end. It has bumpers though. Which is handy for parking.

What is bump parking?

I have a low end car.

It has dropped suspension.

Not really

I have a new 15 plate car. It's small so I opted out of parking sensors and the like because, you know, that's what mirrors are for.

What IS bump parking?

The amount of people that do it seems to suggest many think it's acceptable.

Geeze having an expensive car is relevant to my post. How about responding to the issue I'm talking about rather than sounding jealous.

I said new cars (5 years ish I think now), even budget new cars (hired them on holiday) have sensors.

I'm not jealous. But I would like to know what bump parking is.

Report
DoeEyedNear · 26/07/2015 17:34

Not if you opt out. They're an optional extra.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/07/2015 17:34

So, what is bump parking, please?

Report
BackInTheRealWorld · 26/07/2015 17:34

Most people don't have new cars.

Report
limitedperiodonly · 26/07/2015 17:35

I do it. That's what bumpers are for.

what is bump parking? hitting the surrounding cars when you are parking?

isn't that an accident? people don't do it on purpose do they? as an intentional parking technique?

If there's cctv could you see if your insurance would deal with it?

Report
Salmotrutta · 26/07/2015 17:35

My car is fairly new and it doesn't have sensors - they are usually optional extras.

I assume it's where you reverse back until you 'bump' the car behind or creep forward until you bump the car infront. Then settle somewhere in the middle.

My understanding is it's a very 'European' way of parking and in some countries everyone does it as the norm.

SoupDragon · 26/07/2015 17:36

No, it isn't what bumpers are for.

TwinkieTwinkle · 26/07/2015 17:36

What kind of 'high-end' car do you have?

Report
FenellaFellorick · 26/07/2015 17:36

my car's got sensors. They get increasingly hysterical in tone and almost always sound like they're telling me off Grin
my car can also park itself apparently but i have no intention of trying that out. I'm bad enough as a passenger when my husband is driving, I'd have kittens if the car was Grin

Either learn to park properly or get a smaller car.

My car is 13 yrs old and has sensors, but doesn't have a camera with a guide (which is what you said in your OP).

We have a large van with a camera, but I still don't know what bump parking is

How is having an expensive car relevant to your post? I am genuinely confused and a leeetle bit goady here, since I can't believe you really mean that
