Me too usual. My mam was a smoker and she spent a lot of time in hospital (unrelated to smoking I might add). And back then you could smoke in the day room and there was a non smoking room too. She tried both and said everyone in the non smoking room sat in silence ignoring each other and the people in the smoking room were really friendly and she made loads of mates.

YANBU, I have had all manner of weird and wonderful conversations and made some solid friendships whilst standing outside in the 'smoking area' at the back of my office.

I now vape and love the fact that I can still stand outside with my smoking comrades philosophising about politics or the weather.

That's understandable, Nanny0gg. I think this thread is just a riposte to the smoker-bashing you find with tedious regularity on MN.

Yes, it's a dangerous habit and yes, it has side effects that can be life limiting. I don't know anyone who hasn't been touched by those side effects tbh. But there are things attached to it that cause nostalgia for many and they're not all negative.

However, people do smoke and and they are still people. They shouldn't be vilified and made to feel dirty and "pathetic" as someone called them on the other thread.

Nobody would talk about alcohol addicts or drug addicts in the same way - they are people who deserve help yet smokers are "disgusting" etc...
