We are in London in a few weeks for the weekend and I wanted to take ds somewhere for his birthday meal- heard people talk about the rainforest cafe but have heard mixed reviews- can anyone recommend anything similar which will be good fun for a kid of 6?

Rainforest Cafe is too busy for me but we love Inamo www.inamo-restaurant.com/
It's a sushi/Japanese restaurant with interactive tables that you can play games on. We've been going since DC were toddlers.

My boys loved the rainforest cafe, we only went to the one San Francisco a few times when they were younger.

We went to rainforest cafe in London at the start of the summer. It was awful. Expensive, dreadful service, rubbish food. I’ve been to the one at Disney before which was great but I wouldn’t go back to the London one again. What about Hard Rock Cafe or TGIs? Or somewhere in China town?

DobbleDobble · 07/11/2021 21:34

Rainforest cafe is the pits.We went a few weeks ago, it’s dreary, dank, dark and poor poor food and choices plus overpriced. Also it was rammed.
I’m not much help on alternatives I’ll rack my brains!

I have

I agree re Rainforest Cafe.
China Town is cool though.

MondeoFan · 07/11/2021 21:36

We loved it when we went. We had a fab seat though and lovely waitress. My 2 DD age 6 and 16 both loved it

MancMum2000 · 07/11/2021 22:46

The rainforest cafe is quite shit but my kids of similar age to yours love it so happy to take them now and then.

Doodar · 07/11/2021 22:55

Benihana is great, kids get a chefs hat toowww.benihanainternational.com/locations/piccadilly/

The desert shops in China Town are great too, plus the Korean shops where you can get different POKO chocolateschinatown.co.uk/en/food/10-dessert-parlours-to-try-in-chinatown-this-easter/

You must book a restaurant, we were in town last week and every restaurant in Covent Garden was booked for lunch, even Wagamama had a huge queue.

Doodar · 07/11/2021 22:59

My kids love Dishoom. www.dishoom.com

choosername1234 · 07/11/2021 23:02

We tried to book rainforest cafe & couldn't get in so we went to Bubba Gump shrimp instead. It was rubbish, don't bother going

Ave Maria or others in this group,www.bigmammagroup.com/en/trattorias/ave-mario

ballsdeep · 07/11/2021 23:09

Mine loved the rainforest cafe , although agree about the food and the price.

We had brilliant Sears next to the elephant which added to the excitement for my children but I wouldn't rush to go back there again

ForensicFlossy · 07/11/2021 23:13

Rainforest Cafe is so overrated. We were really disappointed.

LittleBearPad · 07/11/2021 23:13

The rainforest cafe menu suggests that ‘English style’ fish and chips is served with coleslaw…

On this basis alone I’d run screaming from it.

kindlyensure · 07/11/2021 23:23

Why not go for afternoon tea instead? It's just a little bit more special and there are lots of places that are aimed at kids (or you can get a kids version). The Ampersand hotel in Sth Kensington does a science afternoon tea for e.g. with lots of fun interactive touches. (It is kind of in the hotel foyer but the tea is good and they are very generous in topping you up with cakes.)

Or the Parlour at Fortnum and Masons is good for ice creams and light lunches.

Afternoon tea can be pricey (although rainforest cafe is £££!) but there are often vouchers around. Or there's a Peppa pig afternoon tea bus at the moment I keep see driving around (obvs he may be too old for that but as a general idea).

amiafreakofnature · 08/11/2021 16:08

He doesn't really like afternoon tea tbh
Thanks for all the suggestions though will have a good look
