I don't think I've heard anyone in my entire life use the word 'whom',

do you use it a lot?

Really? You've never heard or used "whom"?

For whom
By whom

Ask not for whom the bell tolls not ringing any bells?

It's either by whom or who by.

IAmKerplunk · 15/07/2026 23:41

I don’t ‘lol’ though. Not in writing nor when speaking but horses for courses and all that.

Nighty night

IAmKerplunk · 15/07/2026 23:40

I do 😇 so do my friends and family. It’s a normal word.

I would say it's old English, like 'thou'. I've never heard anyone say the word 'whom', or write it.

Edited

I know of the word. I have never heard anyone actually say it in a sentence in real life.

Theres a lovely chill coming in through my window 🙂

Yes it's getting colder now.

Sadly it is a well known fact that domestic abuse cases increase after big sporting events (win or lose)
Normally the police and Women’s Aid do a big campaign but, unless I’ve missed it, I haven’t seen so much this time round

I seem to remember there being some sort of campaign. It may have got hijacked slightly when reform used a particularly clumsily worded tweet using it to wish the England team well.

RafaistheKingofClay · 15/07/2026 23:43

No chill here 😭

Genuinely, you will have heard it on the news, or read it in books. Maybe it just didn’t register with you.
It is a word that is used a lot, nothing like thou

Yes I hope she's okay. It's horrible to think about.

The latest posts today prompted a mass report as they clearly weren't genuine. But of course there will be a lot of women suffering due to this loss.

Omg you should try 'lol'ing in convo and report back 😄😄😄 x

That's nice. I hope England and English fans can take the Cape Verde and Norway approach and celebrate what they achieved.

We’ve had a great World Cup but this last game was poor. The better (dirtier, but still better) team won tonight, sadly. I hope the majority can remain philosophical and look at all the positives.

Four years from now we could have Captain Jude leading the way. Hold that thought!

Right, that'll do me. Thanks for a lovely thread, mostly. There's always one, isn't there?

Yes sadly.

RafaistheKingofClay · 15/07/2026 23:55

mindymoo11 · 15/07/2026 23:47

what does that mean

It’s a reference to the writers of Happy days trying to reverse falling numbers by a series of increasing ludicrous plot lines. Namely the episode Fonzie jumped the shark. Widely used these days to refer to any point in a fictional work where the plot becomes so ludicrous as to be completely implausible.

it happens a lot on mn threads.

ShelleyCarpenter · 15/07/2026 23:59

I hope Spain wipes the floor with them

IAmKerplunk · 16/07/2026 00:18
