Felt so sorry for them at 02.00 when I loked, especially when I saw the timing of the goal. They did well to keep it at 1 - 0 for the rest of the match after that shock. Fingers crossed for the Brazil match. Wonderful YouTube thing showing the Scots taking over Fenway Park for a Red Sox game.

I just came on to say I live in the Boston area and the Scottish fans are spreading a LOT of joy here. My young adult kids are having a blast. It is the best we've felt as a city since November 2024 imo. We are all Team Scotland.

My dd was at that Red Sox game and it was a blast. The team mascot wore a kilt. The scots marched with bagpipes from back bay to Fenway (fab city stadium), They are just so much fun. Also they've made several charitable donations to hospitals/children's hospitals.

The atmosphere at home is just incredible too. Flags on cars and houses, any excuse to chant No Scotland, No party etc. It’s brilliant.

And now we have Brazil so let’s hope that we can hold up against them. 🤞

If you’ve not seen it, worth watching highlights of their match vs Spain. 🇪🇸 Spain 2nd favourites but Vozhina the 40 year old goalie who played for 2nd division Portuguese Team was incredible.

Apparently before that match he had 47k Instagram followers, last I checked was 14m.

With that -GD Scotland essentially require 4x 3rd place nations with 2 points or fewer, and chances of that happening are practically nil. They can't come home yet, but they might as well put their feet up.

I’m ever the optimist (well, we have to be, don’t we). At least they actually went out and played last night. Aye the mistakes were howlers and we still don’t have enough options to score, but they held the ball last night, which was certainly lacking in the first two games.

BBC said the odds were 42% of qualifying with the final GD so some way away from being practically nil.

Morocco and Brazil are far better teams so it was always going to be damage limitation. They did OK against Morroco but fell a bit short against Brazil.

Two things I think. Both Scotland and England are fairly poor at the low block. A low block for Scotland vs Brazil might have helped reduce the final score, and there was I think a 62% chance of qualifying with a 2 goal defeat by Brazil so quite a significant boost.

Second is that Scotland really lost it vs Haiti. Scotland are ranked 41 in the world and Haiti 88 so they really needed to thump them to get the odds up.

If they had beaten haiti 3-0 they would be +2 on the goal difference now with qualifying odds of 84%.

I feel a bit sorry for the fans and team who are now in limbo until the rest of the matches are played.

Yes, from a purely statistical standpoint and hypothetically talking about any random tournament in this format.

The reality of this actual WC is South Africa's surprise victory overnight has reduced those odds significantly, and there are a number of matches in which Scotland require a victory by either side but a draw would see both nations progress, so there are likely to be a few carve-ups.

We're not mathematically out of it, but for practical purposes we pretty much are. At best it would be 8th 3rd place nation, but it looks far more likely we'll be 9th-10th once everything plays out.

We blew this as soon as Clarke settled for a scruffy 1-0 in the opening match, which appeared to be from roughly 30 minutes in. The non-performance is inexcusable, playing three completely different, untested systems in three group matches. If he has any self-awareness he'll have resigned by Monday and negotiate a settlement with the SFA to tear up the idiotic 4 year contract they gave him ahead of the Finals.
