A sympathy thread: I think I fluffed it.

I had an interview this morning. I am a SAHM who has been out of the swing of things for about 2 years, in a fast-moving techological environment. I had an interview this morning and feel I was very vague and woolley. I think I fluffed it.

Oh dear, what a boring thread to start!

I will know by the end of the week. If I get the job it will be a big whoopie! And I will treat myself to a new handbag.

If not, it merely confirms I am a wool-brained dunce

I bet it wasn't nearly as bad as you thought.

hobbgoblin · 03/02/2009 17:07

Did they ask you how to make a knife blunt?

My worst interviews have brought the most success - I think I've performed dreadfully when I haven't. Same with exams.

Fingers crossed for you and hope at the very least it was a good practice run for the next interview coming your way. That sounds shite doesn't it, sorry.

I hate waiting too. I'm waiting to hear if i have an interview, they were shortlisting for my dream job on Monday

MrsSeanBean · 03/02/2009 17:08

Oh Lizzy... I don't know, I suppose not, but the questions were so specific. I can waffle for Britian in a fairly articulate manner, but since having DS I have such totally blank moments.

IF you didn't get it, put it down to experience, your first interview after 2 years was bound to be a big thing!

MrsMattie · 03/02/2009 17:08

I had the worst interview of my life a few years ago (God, I go hot and red just thinking about how shite I was! ), then a few months later had another interview, was much better prepared for it and got the job (my dream job at the time, actually).

I really believe that sometimes you need a practice run. You have to cock it up in order to recognise your weaknesses and work on them for next rtime.

Have some sympathy, here you go . But don't let it get you down and or detract you from your plans.

MrsSeanBean · 03/02/2009 17:11

hobgoblin

Nah, wasn't at a knife development firm, thankfully.

Funny you should say that about worst stuff being the best so to speak: I was convinced I failed my driving test many years ago(actually passed 1st time). I even questioned the examiner when he said I had passed! (What? I have.... passed?!) In retrospect I am surprised he didn't reverse the decision.

The waiting is awful isn't it. I am just thnakful I don't need the job urgently, I mean it would be nice, but we are not without income as some people are having been made redundant etc.

did they shout "you what?" or guffaw at your CV? nope thought not,so just got to wait for feedback

congratulations on getting interview, esp in today's economic recession.means on paper you were appointable and worth a lookey. it is permissible to phone and ask for feedback

stealthsquiggle · 03/02/2009 17:16

MrsSB. Deep Sympathy. However, if you don't need the job, then you need to convince yourself that you only went for interview practice really(but don't convince yourself too much that you didn't want the job otherwise you will need unconvincing again if when you get it).

My most successful interviews have been those where I wasn't convinced that I wanted the job

MrsSeanBean · 03/02/2009 17:19

Thankfully not SM!
They said they will make a decision by the end of the week. I found the senior manager rather obtuse, but am now worrying it was merely me being post-natally wool brained - well that's still my excuse anyway, 2 years on!

Stealthsquiggle, that's true. I think you tend to relax more when it's not vital.

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 07/02/2009 08:44

Hi, I start 1 March. I will be a little about not being a SAHM anymore, But itv was never the long floaty holiday baking and shopping experience I thought it would be!

In some all respects it will be easier to work.

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 07/02/2009 08:44

sorry I meant it not itv

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 07/02/2009 08:44

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 07/02/2009 08:50

I won't be able to MN as much though.....

GossipMonger · 07/02/2009 08:51

ooh well done - whats the job and how many hours is it and do we need a new thread for what you will wear?

MrsJamin · 07/02/2009 08:53

Well done, it is scary, I went from SAHM (just on maternity leave though) to a new job after several interviews- it feels very difficult to be professional when you've just cleared snot from your shoulder. It is quite different to 'going back' to your old job but I like it in that my new colleagues have started to know me as me (with the minor info that I'm a mum) and not 'oh you're different now you're a mum' stereotype that I was worried about being in my old job. Good luck with it all!

MrsSeanBeanIsEmployable · 07/02/2009 08:57

There are certain other advantages. I have told DH I will need new clothes as I got rid/ sold most of my old work clothes.

(The one work skirt I had kept... I tried on for the interview but had to change as it seemed to have shrunk and looked indecently snug around the bum area. So I had to wear a bright pink wool dress I bought for DS's Christening!)

TrillianAstra · 07/02/2009 15:46

Just noticed the title of this thread again: so it is true that the interviews that you think have gone badly are actually the most successful!

hatwoman · 07/02/2009 15:50

well done mrs sb - and thanks for the itv laugh!

differentCupID · 07/02/2009 15:52

Well done- enjoy your shopping trip.
