.....ive just had to pay out 3k for car repairs

i am living on borowed money

i just cant see me geting a job

i just had my first interview for two years

i am crap at interviews and i did try

i just dont have suitable experience and wherever i look at whatever level i can see that i wont get the jobs because there will always be someone who is better

if i apply for low paid jobs i hear nothing because no one wants me

if i apply for better jobs then i either hear nothing or 3 times in two years i have had interviews and the in terviewers have basically just been mistaken when they asked me and i have been crap

gosh when I go for interviews, there are normally about 50 CVs and just 3 people chosen for interview. Like overthemill said, they do not waste their time in interviewing someone who is not up to the job.

What about this job? Its a contract role but its easy to work in an umbrella company (this is how I work all the time done it for 10 years now!). Don't be put off by the SC - apparently you cannot get it until you have a job, agencies like to ask for it before hand but this is impossible (as well they know) to get.

zippitippitoes · 05/08/2008 12:03

i didnt even understgand that job description mrs recycle so i dont think i would be very convincing in that sort of role

I never interview someone I don;t think could be in teh runnig for the job. Big waste of my time.

All degrees are a waste of time unless you did medicine, dentistry, engineering or architecture. All other degrees just show that you have a modicum of intelligence and can do enough work to pass exams. I don;t much care what the subject is when reviewing CV's.

Running your own business is a very valuable skill and would interest me in a CV but think carefully about how you present why you stopped doing it, try to find somethiing positive eg what you learnt from it - what you would do differently, what you would advise peopel in the same position now.

MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:06

I thought it was just the other side of what you are doing now - sending off CVs, looking at jobs, liaising with HR, arranging interviews, looking at rates (salary), budgeting (what you do at home), admin (sorting out paperwork)...

Kewcumber · 05/08/2008 12:07

Office Manager = housewife but in an office , do you have report writing/minute taking experience because thats requied in that job (though generally not required in office manager roles).

Anyone organised with experience of running a home shoudl be able to tlak themselves into an office manager job.

MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:08

And its only for 60 days - no-one wants a job for 60 days. They won't find anyone!

Kewcumber · 05/08/2008 12:09

"the feedback from that interview was i was a strong candidate and it was a difficult decision and they liked my cv but then they qarent going to say anything else really"

I always give honest feedback after interviews. Why would they lie? They're probably not ever going to see you again and probably couldn;t care less whether they hurt your feelings! Sorry to be blunt but the corporate world is like that.

WilfSell · 05/08/2008 12:09

zippi,

One: you sound depressed - are you being treated for that currently and would it help if you could deal with that first because being positive about interviews is not going to come naturally if you're really down?

Two: how about some of us on here try and put a call out for some work experience slots for you? You offer to work for free for a week or two for MNers? And see if that helps up your contacts/experience and mostly your confidence about what your skills are?

I have no idea whether people would go for it but we could try?

Cappuccino · 05/08/2008 12:10

oh I do feel for you zippi my cv feels all over the place

however dh says it is strong and varied and therefore more useful and he is an employer

sometimes we can't see it for ourselves

can someone help you go through it?

MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:12

oh and, who knows, the candidate they chose may not turn out (happens quite often) and they might contact you again. Thank them for their feedback say that you were very interested in the position and, should it become available again, you would love to be considered for it.

zippitippitoes · 05/08/2008 12:12

yes i have had to think carefully about why i am not doing the business

this is a job i am applyoing for here

but the implication is they want someone young which is always a problem

i satnd a better chsance where the profile or the customers are older

i do put a much more positive spin on my applications than on here it is just disappointing tgrying sall tghe time and the clock is ticking which is scary

i will run out of money

i dont have any child care so no problems there no husband either but that of course means i have no current income and no benefits as i dont have any eleigibility

And zippi you come across here as YOUNG and very YOUTHFUL so sod the years since born and focus on just how young and spirited you really are

Mercy · 05/08/2008 12:15

Zippi, I've just had a quick look at your local government website - there are a few jobs I'm sure you could do. Do you mind if I link to them?

Not very well paid or senior but even so.

Btw I know someone who has a fine art degree and has done play/art therapy type work for a local charitable organisation.

MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:15

It is illegal to discriminate over age now - I never put my age on applications/CVs and will tell them after I've had my interview.

ScottishMummy · 05/08/2008 12:16

righty.they havent said young anywhere.that is your erroneous interpretation.they want the right candidate

get out of bed
get off mn - come back in few hours
get some reasearch on internet about this post
read read read person spec, start adapting your skills to it

and FGS bit of self worth and positive affirmation Puhleeese

zippitippitoes · 05/08/2008 12:17

im low today because i got a job rejection yesterday

i am usually trying not to be depressed

i have thought about the work experience thing but not sure how that would work in reality

whether it would possibly backfire

the same with agencies they have very fixed ideas i find about who they want..they are very ageist

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/08/2008 12:19

This was the one I mentioned last week.

ScottishMummy · 05/08/2008 12:19

ps i ahve interviewed candidates and never told anyone innacurate feedback

noone would say "strong" candidate if it wasnt true

post interview feedback is given accurately, even if it isnt necessarily what people wish to hear

WilfSell · 05/08/2008 12:20

why do you think work experience might backfire?

MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:21

I found agencies to be very ageist - I agree there. But they are my bread and butter and I lied about my age, just so I could get through to the client for an interview. I took 10 years off my age and they never battered an eyelid when I told the client the truth. But this was in the days when it wasn't illegal to discriminate based on age. Nowadays they can't ask you this question. Plus at 51 - you've got at least 14 more working years left in you - that is a good investment for a company.

berolina · 05/08/2008 12:21

zipp

can't get you a job I'm afraid - wish we had the money and space to have you here as ds2's nanny -, but email me (address on ome 10/10 or other) to sound off if you like.

I think you sound young too.

zippitippitoes · 05/08/2008 12:22

i know they cant discriminate but as you put on your qualifications school dates etc they can easil see that if you got a levels in 1975 you arent 35

you have cheered me up

i think my bf is planning a pep talk on the phone tonight becaude he said shall i ring you after cricket

he seems to think i should get a decent job but he is an optimistand maybe he doesnt have an objective view

i shall apply for that job

i have got disillusioned with county council jobs because they never reply to applications from me

OP posts:
MrsRecycle · 05/08/2008 12:25

Don't be silly - I changed those dates as well! Just took off 10 years from each of my dates! Its about being sneaky to get past the agents. "Work your CV Girl"
