Do you find your job fulfilling?

Easypeasyitis · Today 10:21

I don’t find my job full filling; it is monotonous, don’t have much challenge and little interaction with people; not enough to do; however salary is good, not much stress, relative flexible and I have time for me and my family which is what I need now, good benefits.

There is not perfect. Previous job was very challenging and constant pressure and deadlines. Big 4.

I am an Accountant, working in industry, small company atm.

I've just retired from the final 9 years of my career in almost exactly the same type of job. Fulfilling? Nope, but it was money for old rope, flexible and I could pretty much do the job exactly how I thought it should be done. I could also switch off the minute I left work for the day.

There's a lot to be said for convenience over fulfilment.

I wouldn’t describe it as fulfilling, it’s interesting, challenging, lots of variety and it pays well. It can be stressful, long hours and some really big scary decisions, but overall I enjoy it. Would give it up in a split second if I won big on the lottery though.

Yes, I love it. So much so I miss it when I’m on holiday and I’m excited to get back to it! My colleagues are fantastic and the work genuinely still excites me even after 15 years.

I love my job. Event manager.

TheNumberfaker · Today 10:37

No I don’t find it fulfilling at all but it’s almost 100% wfh and not too stressful. Flexible around family medical/dental appointments is a big plus.
I feel I was really lucky to find a 9.9/10 job before kids and content to just bimble along with this one until kids finish school, and then I’ll look for something different. Pay is rubbish but it’s a compromise for convenience.

A bit jealous of people who love it/enjoy it,

I don’t hate it, but wouldn’t say I love it,

DH mostly enjoys what he does and works all the time; but he also said that if he won the lottery he will give it up.

How did you get into it. Sounds exciting, something I may have enjoyed doing

That is great to hear. I certainly don’t miss my job when on holidays

School nurse in a large comprehensive.
i love teenagers, but the money is dreadful.
I think I should have jumped ship years ago.

LuckyNumberFive · Today 10:58

I love my job. Chartered management accountant, always worked in smaller businesses, but now a finance business partner in a much bigger, global company.

wtdse · Today 11:01

Not fulfilling at all, but pays well for 4 day week, works around dropping kids at school and I’m kind of left to it so not a lot of stress from above.
I sometimes think about changing to a more challenging and rewarding role but would potentially loose my day off, have more stress and no flexibility around family life.

WhatAMarvelousTune · Today 11:09

No, but I don’t mind. It’s mainly from home, there’s very little stress involved, it’s very flexible if I want to go to DDs’ sports days or things like that, it has great pension contributions, good benefits, pay is decent, and I don’t dislike it. I don’t also need it to be fulfilling.

There’s a scene in friends that my job reminds me of. Chandler gets up and says something like “right, I gotta go to work. If I don’t input those numbers….. doesn’t make much of a difference”.

OldCrohn · Today 11:27

No I don't but the rest of my life is now I have space to enjoy it. I had a 'fulfilling' career but actually it just filled every bit of headspace and time I had until there was no room for happiness anywhere else.

Imicola · Today 11:30

Yes i enjoy my work. It's interesting, it's working on things that matter (in my opinion anyway!), i have autonomy, it's challenging and hugely varied, but i also have flexibility and good work life balance. Unfortunately we're having huge upheaval at the moment and my workplace is currently awful as a result, but the work itself is still fulfilling. Not sure if I'll still be there next year, but if I am I hope things will improve again.

Aviarythebird · Today 11:55

My dad was an accountant and got made redundant in his mid 50’s from a big company. He got an accountancy job with a charity and was so much happier and fulfilled - but obviously less pay.
There’s lots of admin in my job that is tedious but the parts of it that are to do with people and trying to improve their lives make it enjoyable and fulfilling so I put up with the rest.

Anyonegotacluewhattheirjobsabout · Today 11:58

I used to love my job but now as I get older and after a lay off from a big company and working for a smaller US company run by younger people who feel they can comment about what you’re not doing in their opinion is stressful.they hire and fire at will so always working in fear rather than enjoying it. I am paid well but would like to have a rest or work for a company who is less arrogant..

Notellinganyone · Today 12:02

Yes - absolutely love it. I’m a secondary school teacher- English- and I’m in my 21st year at my current school, 30 th in teaching. I have a fantastic department and a brilliant Head of department . We have freedom in terms of what and how we teach. I’m going part time next year because I can claim my pension in January and I’ll have a day a week off which will be great.
