Work from home job - Can you please help me find one?

I am looking for a work from home job but I don’t know how to find one. I have A levels but no degree. I’m not really sure what would be available to me, maybe a call centre type job 🤔
I am on Indeed and work from home jobs never seem to come up. Are they like hens teeth to find?
If you have a work from home job, can I ask what you do?

Firstly, why do you want to work from home? There are lots of jobs that allow it these days but often not unlimited - you’d need to go into the office regularly .There are costs associated with WFH too esp in winter.

I like the flexibility of working from home and I don’t thrive in an open plan office environment, I worked in one for 10 years and it was bad for my mental health. I don’t mind going into the office if needed but I would prefer mostly home working.

And what do you mean by flexibility? Because you often find they are not as flexible as you think. The most common home working roles are call centre/ customer support roles. Many civil service roles allow WFH but need to go in 2/3 times a week . What are your skills and experience?

A lot of previously wfh jobs have been going back into the office over the past year or so. Mine went to wfh at covid but is now on a very strict 3 days in office.

A lot of the financial services sector (which is where I am) will offer a split but most are 2-3 days in office now.

myyoungerself · 08/06/2026 21:44

It’s often not the nicest of work that is work from home. Spent the whole day doing debt collection just dressed up as something nice and no we don’t earn commission on turning people around and achieving best outcomes.

I have been work from home a little over 2 years but even the building where I’m based out of is undergoing a revamp (they aren’t going to do that to leave the staff not turning out on mandatory office days) plus there are rumours going around it is to end backed up by the team leaders who say it was better non-remote.

It’s quite rare to find an employer who isn’t sales based who allows 100% work from home. I think one of the employers (e-commerce) who I last interviewed with offered 2 days wfm out of 3 didn’t even make it known on the job advertisement.

FairViewRosie25 · 08/06/2026 21:55

I need one too. Got idiotic dogs who can’t be left alone as neighbour complains. Husband is freelance so days away are not regular

Catlover1705 · 08/06/2026 21:56

My previous job with a local council was 100% WFH, no requirement to go into the office at all. Many staff members didn't live locally.

PinkEasterbunny · 08/06/2026 21:58

Hybrid seems to be the most common option

itslikecakesbutitsnotcakes · 08/06/2026 22:05

You don’t ’find a wfh job’ you find a job and see what they allow/expect in terms of WFH. No job is guaranteed 100%WFH

Mushroom2023 · 08/06/2026 22:14

What skills do you have? Is there anything you could do self-employed?

I am self-employed and wfh 100% of the time. However, there's not always as much flexibility as you might think. If I don't work, I don't get paid, so if I've got a client meeting I need to attend. If I'm sick, I don't get paid, so I try to ensure I can still work regardless. If I want holidays, I don't get paid, so I have to time my holidays strategically with slow business times.

However, whilst income is not as stable as it would be if I were employed, I love my work, I love my commute and I couldn't go back into the traditional work place now.

I WFH.and I work in financial services. I changed jobs though in 2021 and got a fully remote contact and have no.office near me. My colleagues who had an office contract that went WFH during COVID and now hybrid.

Look on the work from home hub website

Fivefootoffun · 09/06/2026 09:28

Monzo bank offer full wfh

These jobs are very rare now. Almost all will request hybrid.

Two of my dc work from home. One fully, in a Finance department but he has a degree. The other works 2 in the office, 3 at home, in a customer services role.

what I would say is that both jobs were applied for with the full expectation of being In the office 5 days a week. It was only after they got through interview stage that the working from home pattern was disclosed.

My point being, maybe go for roles that can be done from home such as customer services, and you might find that although not advertised as working from home that might be a distinct possibility.

I suppose this what I mean in a nutshell!

That's interesting because with my employer (public sector) if we don't advertise a job as hybrid, hardly anyone applies

PatsFishTank · 09/06/2026 14:59

I do a back office job for a charity and mainly work from home. I do have a local office which I can go to for a change of scene but the team I work with are based all over the UK so even if I go into the office I don't see people I work with directly. I just go to get out of the house.

My job wouldn't be advertised as WFH but in practice no one is bothered if I'm in the office.

Justploddingonandon · 09/06/2026 15:04

I work in IT and mostly wfh, but officially it's hybrid (and in fact my contract is 100% office based as I started before COVID), I just don't have to go in much as my team is scattered between different offices so wouldn't be meeting up anyway.

PermanentTemporary · 09/06/2026 15:04

My son works in IT and does 3 days in the office. Tbh he’s fine with that as he hates working from home, he usually goes in 4 days a week but some firms are stricter as they are no longer paying for office space.

I work remotely in healthcare - I start the day at home with a team meeting online and then head out to visit recently unwell people at home all day. Our office is effectively a store cupboard, I go in about once a month. So you could try NHS jobs and see what is available. Most hospital sites are desperately short of parking and space so at least some WFH makes sense.

IMakeCrapCakes · 09/06/2026 15:15

A lot of EAP work is fully remote nowadays. You don't need a degree for every role either.

24Dogcuddler · 09/06/2026 15:27

Lots of jobs on charityjob are WFH or Hybrid
Some charities can’t afford a big office in a city.

What did you do?
People will be better able to advise if you give more info rather than people telling you what they do.
Not all offices are large open plan!

Livpool · 09/06/2026 15:29

I work in IT - are you interested in that at all? I am in Liverpool and my colleagues are based in Sheffield, Pretoria and Mumbai.

Companies have 100% remote work forces these days. I currently work for one.
Not common but they do exist.
