What is your job title and how much do you earn?

As per title. What do you do and how much do you get paid?

I'll go first; SAHM. £0 pa.

I have a degree in Psychology, but I have never done anything with it as I fell pregnant not long after graduating. But soon, ill have enough time to go back to work full time and I honestly cant wait! I just feel at this point in my life im not sure if I want to pursue a career directly related to my degree.

So, i'm asking you fellow mumsnetters what you do, so I can get a feel of whats out there with accurate salary / hourly rate reflections.

If anyone also has any advice on what other things I could do with my degree, id be very appreciative! I have heard a lot about recruitment / HR roles being fond of Psychology graduates, but job advertisements for those roles always require experience. I also graduated in 2018 which does NOT work well in my favour, but a degree is a degree and im sure it'll help with some roles (or at least I hope so lol).

Thanks!

MementoMountain · 12/02/2026 21:38

Editor, freelance, about £30-35k a year. I could earn more but I'm fundamentally a bit lazy finding it advisable to take regular screen breaks

Senior Business Analyst, no degree, currently on circa £170k as a contractor

Do you work for a bank? I didn’t know Business Analyst can earn so much.

Customer service supervisor for Transport for London (London Underground) (It's like a shift supervisor) on Zone 1 stations. £64k. No qualifications, just learned on the job.

Diabetesdiagnosis · 12/02/2026 21:44

Senior Procurement Manager (IT) £75k + bonus + car allowance + medical insurance and still on final salary pension scheme. I mainly WFH (not in London).

While these threads are interesting I find the disparity in salaries shocking!

edited to add 25 years experience and started off with a engineering degree. But my colleagues in procurement come from all sorts of backgrounds.

HisNotHes · 12/02/2026 21:45

Not to burst your bubble but graduate roles are very hard to come by even for recent graduates. Also psychology is one of the most popular degree subjects so you’re not exactly unique.

Yeah i definitely don't think finance is the way i want to go, my ADHD brain couldn't handle it lmao. Which is a shame, because im actually really quite good at maths and enjoy working with numbers!

Sinus advice tbf thank you, I do want to earn enough to know I'm financially secure by myself cos well, as you say, you never know. Thank you for the advice!

Hi OP have you considered working as a Statistician in civil service? I'm on 45k at top of HEO grade. WFH most of the time, I'm a carer and my employer has been v supportive. Your psychology degree will have had enough stats on it if it was BPS accredited.

Contract work. As a permanent employee, I would be getting around £80k, as a very good contractor I can earn around £750 a day - but you need a good track record.

I have worked in finance, Aldermore, Lloyds, Santander and Nationwide, but currently working for London Insurance Market (specialist insurance companies).

I have also worked for local councils, telecoms and shipping.

Complaints handling. £46k
Feel a bit stuck. The grade above me has a lot of staff turnover. In any case you hit the higher rate tax band so are increasingly working for the taxman.
