Excuse needed for long sickness..

Please don't judge, I already feel bad enough 😔. I need to be off from early June to early September.
Plausible reason suggestions needed please.
I feel guilty but it's circumstances out of my control that mean I need the time off. Don't want to reveal as might be outing.
Big public sector worker.. Months of being overworked and stressed. Curre doing the work of 3 people, not sustainable long term. I'm burning out.
Stress a plausible reason for 3 months off? Any other ideas? I do have a chronic physical health condition, would it be best to use that?

You’d need to see your GP and detail your MH issues. They would then decide whether to sign you off or not. When I was first signed off for MH, I had psychosis, and I was signed off for two weeks at a time. I had to see the MH team regularly and the GP too. My work left me alone at first as I was too unwell to interact. I then had a meeting with HR who said I had to have a phased return to work.
You cannot plan stress issues in advance. I’m assuming you are in maybe Ireland where summer holidays are long but you are going to have to be honest with your work.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 26/01/2026 18:30

You have time to apply for a term-time-only job before June.

If you are suffering from serious Stress-Induced illness then do not wait till June. Go off sick now and communicate with your employers for what adjustments are needed to make it possible to do your job.

Planning to "go off sick" in June when your real reason is not sickness-related is gross misconduct and fraud and you should be sacked if you do it.

dadtoateen · 26/01/2026 14:52

So, you want 3 months off work paid on the sick but you won't actually be sick?

Is that correct?

We all have stresses and burnout from work at time to time, thats what annual leave is for, to recharge the batteries.

Honestly I wouldn't lie to the company, if you get found out you could be on permanent leave from work

Agree with this.
OP, if you're genuinely sick, see the doctor and get signed off.
But it sounds more as if you just want the three months off and get paid for it.
And that's not okay.

WonderingWanda · 26/01/2026 18:50

I'm a bit confused? How are you going to get away with being off for that chunk of time without actually being ill? Are you asking for a reason you can tell your gp and hope they sign you off for it? That's outrageous behaviour, I hope you get caught and sacked. This is why in my public sector role people are being hauled in and being made to feel like they are in the wrong for taking time of for vomiting bugs so are now coming to work sick....putting the rest of us at risk... because of absolute piss takers like you.

It's stress and it's not an excuse.

Stress causes physical problems eventually. You also have a legit diagnosis.

I don't know what the significance of June-Sept comes in, but that's none of my business. No job is worth it, it's really not ❤

But this is 5/6 months from now.. if she is that ill from stress, she would be off now.

not some pre determined dates in the future.

so she will be lying to her employer, that’s ok is it?

notice the op hasn’t been back since the majority have not backed her or agreed with her thoughts..

what legit diagnosis do we have? From someone who wants to skive off work for 3 months lying to the employer? Yeah, no thanks

C8H10N4O2 · 26/01/2026 19:16

Please don't judge, I already feel bad enough

If you are ill and need time off for treatment then your doctor should be providing the relevant documentation for sick pay.
If you are not ill and want the time off for personal reasons apply for unpaid leave.
If you are cheating your employer (and in this case the taxpayer) then yes people will judge you (as will your coworkers).

Uhghg · 26/01/2026 19:45

I am assuming you’re going on a long holiday or having cosmetic surgery.

Without knowing of a rough idea of why you need time off it’s difficult to know what to suggest.

If it’s cosmetic surgery then you won’t be allowed to go ahead if you use the MH excuse.

But if it’s a holiday/trip away then you’d have to be very sure you don’t get caught else you will lose your job.

GeorgeTheFirst · 26/01/2026 19:49

Just take parental leave if that's what you need

Miolo · 26/01/2026 20:08

It's to have a baby. Nobody at work knows about the pregnancy and I need to keep it that way. I can't elaborate any more. I'm due at end of June. Relative is moving over in summer to the UK to take up baby care and live with me. I can't let work know about the pregnancy. I've never shown on previous pregnancies.

Are you in the UK? You have rights under law being pregnant

Cismyfatarse · 26/01/2026 20:13

No one apart from your manager needs to know. Maternity pay? Protection for your job? All these matter for your future and that of your child. Please try to seek help as this is very worrying. What does your midwife say?

Erm, what? If you tell them you are pregnant you can take longer off and be paid maternity allowance. If you are in the public sector it is usually better than stat maternity pay. Very hard to understand why you are keeping it under wraps and thinking about lying which could result in you losing your job altogether.

havingoneofthosedays · 26/01/2026 20:14

Sorry just seen your in the UK, you have laws protecting you?

Is this the plot of a novel or something? Extremely bizarre.

Silverbirchleaf · 26/01/2026 20:16

People will notice if you’re pregnant!

MMO · 26/01/2026 20:16

Why on earth are you hiding this from your workplace?

moleeye · 26/01/2026 20:17

Reported

BishyBarnyBee · 26/01/2026 20:19

Did you have an affair with someone at work?

This is all very melodramatic and the idea of having a secret baby in the 21st century sounds unbelievable.

You are unlikely to get any useful feedback here if you drip feed bits of the story rather than the full picture.

Uhghg · 26/01/2026 20:20

You’re being a bit naive.

Just because you’ve not shown in previous pregnancies doesn’t mean you won’t this time.

And what if your waters break at work?
Or you have a caesarean/complicated birth?

Sure many of us are wondering….. why can’t work find out??

Luckyingame · 26/01/2026 20:20

I suggested Long COVID, but then I found out it's about having a baby.
A bit bonkers.
Apologies to people suffering with the above.

What now?? Am assuming the need to have relatives moving to uk means dad not about.
@Miolo does you relative have right to move to uk? To access nhs?
you must be in a high earning job to fully financially support them! What if the relative becomes ill? Do you have other dc?

Mossstitch · 26/01/2026 20:22

Surrogacy 🤔

You are actually supporting someone who wants to lie and deceive their employer? Wowsers

just seen your edit 🤪

Either it's a planned op in which case it's sick leave and that's what you book it in as, or it's holiday and you book it as that, or it's neither so you don't take it. There is no such thing as 3 months leave not for sick or holiday, it's called scamming the company and it should get you the sack.
