Already feel sick about work on Monday

It always happens, halfway through a holiday I just dread going back.

I know the obvious answer is to find a new job but for a myriad of reasons that’s difficult. Also I do feel like it’s just the industry I work in.

Anyone else feeling sick about it?

Take an extended leave of absence and try working in the private sector.
That will cure any lingering issues very quickly.

Don’t be such a dick

Don’t be such a dick

I'm not being a dick - I'm being honest.
I'm sick of teachers whinging about how hard their life is.
If it is really is that hard, get out - it's a big world out there.

Meanwhile, they won't because no other job comes with such short working hours and so many holidays - it's nuts in the modern era. Meanwhile most parents work and have to pay extra for childcare whenever schools are off which is usually after a relentless 6 weeks of work....

Universities are even worse - they take a year long course and stretch it into 3 or 4 years of mickey mouse studies and take even longer holidays.
It's a scam.

Why do they get away with it?
They're unionised while most people in the private sector are not and have to pay for the privileges that public employees take for granted.

Yes and I WFH for a lovely small coy. We feel your pain, OP. You've got this.

Clearly you've absolutely no idea of either education sector 😆🥱.

You are being a dick.

Unbelievable! You are clearly not a teacher. We do not work short hours. As an English teacher I was working all the time and needed the holidays to recover from the exhaustion. My daughter said to me the other day 'you were always working and when you weren't you were sleeping '.
And if you like being verbally abused by teenagers all day, then it's the job for you. The workload is often unmanageable, the students' behaviour makes it difficult to teach, and the money is rubbish, and that was in the private sector. Don't make comments on something you know nothing about.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Staff at university work all year, admin staff have work to do all year round, academics do research and papers. There's summer schools, open days, prepping for the new term, sorting out resits. Just because students finish in June doesn't mean the university shuts down.

I am in academia in a technical, lab-based role, and it never stops. August may be when the academics disappear, but it is also when the instruments get serviced. I take my leave no more than one week at a time.

I gave up teaching (being abused by teenagers all day, listening to the crap off their parents and working until 11pm most nights) am now finance manager in a private company.
9-5- switch computer off, off I go to do what I want. No weekend work, I have a lunchtime, I can drink tea whenever I choose, I can take holidays in cheap time of year when there’s no kids around … win win win

im amazed there’s any teachers left in this country.
