What would you do?

I started a job after Easter holidays, so less than a month just, working in a school as a PT Teaching Assistant. The school isn't the right fit for me for a few reasons.
What would you put for reason for wanting to leave on other application forms?
Thank you

Only in a generic positive way, I wouldn't go into specifics.

I might say I'm leaving because I want a new challenge

or

I'm leaving because I want to improve my chances to grow with a role and progress my career

I wouldn't say, I'm leaving because the workplace doesn't suit my needs or didn't like it.

SimplybidetimdE · 20/05/2025 19:12

Have you left already?

Festivespirit85 · 20/05/2025 19:15

No. But I'm actively looking for other work.

Would you put that the place wasn't the right fit for 'me'?

No need to say that at all. The answers I gave do suggest that and most experienced recruiters would gather that.

I'd only discuss it if it was asked at interview. On the one occasion where I was asked, I was honest and said there was a great team but the work wasn't what I expected and I felt it better not to waste the company's or my time. I'd onyl been there a short while too.

There's a lot of temptation to spill about your previous role for various reasons but it's best to keep it light and positive.

isitme111 · 20/05/2025 19:46

Some job applications do specifically ask the reason for leaving and salary, so sometimes you do have to state a reason. Are you applying for other TA roles. If not I'd be tempted to leave if off the CV or say not a good fit if you have to answer. If you're applying for other TA roles it makes it a bit tricky not sure what I'd do in that case especially if you need to have TA experience to apply for other TA roles.

SimplybidetimdE · 20/05/2025 19:48

i think with schools you should be absolutely upfront from the outset and not omit any positions

Festivespirit85 · 20/05/2025 21:22

Thank you all for your replies. It's one of those that until you work somewhere, you never truly know what it is like.

Do not leave it off your CV if you’re applying for jobs in other schools - it’s a safeguarding red flag and you could lose any future job.

Exactly

and concerning the Op would even consider doing this. At best it smacks of inexperience

DongDingBell · 21/05/2025 07:20

What are you applying for? School jobs, and you need to put it on the form. You could want more/less hours?
None school jobs, not the right fit/ not what you were expecting.

Or maybe because I was asking for advice! I've never started a job and disliked the place so much before!

Surely just common sense would tell you that if you’re trying to get a job in a school…. You are honest in all the questions and don’t choose to omit your last job simply because you don’t think it looks good how brief you were there.

i agree, concerning this didn’t occur to you.

oh and I don’t nor have I ever had any experience of working in a school. As say, just common sense

I never said that I was applying for other school roles so....
It was merely a question. No need to get on your self-righteous horse.

Fingers crossed it isn’t another school if you were considering omitting employment history

I'm confused now, I thought the questions was do you need to tell them the reason for leaving a job, not do I leave that job off the CV?

Other posters seem to have grasped onto the latter, which is it OP or is it both, perhaps that will stop the unpleasant posts.

Edited

Doesn't clarify whether it is the reason for leaving or the job itself.

Yes they have grasped on the latter merely because I commented to someone suggesting that.
My original question does stand as to what to put the reason why. I wasn't aware you could leave it off, naive of me absolutely.
As for the self-righteous ones who have nothing of substance to add, particularly Thestudio81's comment (which I've not been able to see since it's been deleted, and can only guess they are assuming the worse 🤣, which I can wholeheartedly assure you you are wayyy of the mark. I don't like the Head of the school and have been mislead at the interview as to what the role would entail!)
Thank you for the rest of you that have commented, and I won't be leaving it off my CV or applications. As for wanting to work in another school, yes, but I'm also looking at non-school roles.
