DD severely disabled. How can she make money from home?

Lele101 · 06/04/2025 15:24

My daughter doesn’t claim anything at all, my mil has money and has been financially supporting her essentials. Rent/bills/food

but my daughter wants to make her own money. At least like a side hustle. Any work from home jobs.

she finished school with GCSE’s and doesn’t have any qualifications.

She recently became disabled. She can rarely leave the house and doctors think it’s going to be a at least a few years till she can walk/move her body much again.

do you guys have any ideas?

Or any qualifications she can get from home?

Qualifications, she could do open uni which doesn’t have a minimum entry.

can she type? What are her interests or subjects she was good at, at school even though she didn’t go beyond gcse? Is she into tech or artsy etc?

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 15:27

Well if she claimed, she would have her own money.

You don’t mention any of her strengths? Crafting? Creative? Good at ironing?

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 15:28

Given she’s young and has gcses only (inc maths and English?) then definitely study

did she get decent grades? Could she retake?

Pullmeunder · 06/04/2025 15:29

Also why isn’t she claiming? Especially if she’s not able to move her body much for years, I’d start the process for pop

There are many call centers who allow people to work from home if she'd be willing to do that? Some are quite well paid these days and you don't need qualifications.

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 15:32

I recall all your other threads op. You are in a very precarious financial position on a very low income barely making ends meet. You were applying for benefits in your last thread I was on…. Was this not successful? I don’t think you can afford to pass up benefits if she’s entitled

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 06/04/2025 15:33

What is why interested in and what is her stamina like for studying? There are lots of options and there maybe funding available depending on her age.

QuillBill · 06/04/2025 15:33

She could study for other GCSEs, particularly science. That’s what I would want my child to do.

a few years before she can move her body or leave the house sounds like an incredibly difficult situation.

Good at ironing??!! The op said the daughter can't move her body much.

Did you even read the post?

Sat down on sofa ironing…. Is that really out of the realms of possibility for everyone with a physical disability?

I think. Not

What was her job before falling ill?

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 15:44

Does she want to learn a skill with a view for employment?

or more of something to fill time during difficult health period?

Tricky to suggest without knowing more of her strengths, interests and what her last job was and whether keen to get back to something similar

Gazelda · 06/04/2025 15:47

Why isn’t she claiming benefits?

If she’s just completed GCSEs, can she talk with her school to ask for support to get a levels? Or some careers guidance?

Moonshinerso · 06/04/2025 15:49

How old is she?

Cerialkiller · 06/04/2025 15:49

I would suggest a computer science/programming/game coding/AI developer/software developer. She's obviously academically capable and these above jobs are the kind of things she can do from home and remote. Roblox game maker for instance though that market maybe saturated now.

Personally I'm a 3d modeller working from home. But that has come off the back of a design degree and over a decade of office jobs in related industries. I would suggest something technical rather then creative which is chronically underpaid.

She’d have to attend classes to get a qualification. Unfortunatly she can’t leave the house right now which would be impossible

Contact the LA or home education websites. Many online options - let her study first, if not enough family income, apply for the relevant benefits?
