Simple question what role/sector do you work in and what is your current salary. How much do you enjoy what you do.

Intrigued to see the pattern.

My job title is ambiguous, I have a degree, masters and professional chartership and 25years experience in a STEM subject career where management and senior roles are dominated by men. I have never direct reports and am fairly free to be on own boss which counts for a lot IMO. £63k
enjoyment levels vary depending on my current project but for the industry and level of responsibilities i
think I’m fairly well off.

I would say you sound very underpaid for your qualifications and experience.

CrownCoats · 30/03/2025 22:45

Policy advisor in the civil service. FTE £64k plus 27% pension contribution, 31.5 days annual leave, and hybrid working. Fairly stress free and flexible but I have no desire to take on the line management responsibility of the next grade up, so feeling a bit trapped at my current grade.

MustBeGinOclock · 30/03/2025 22:48

Education. Pastoral. 24.5k term time.

GlosGal · 30/03/2025 22:53

Head of Procurement in an Engineering Services business around 80k. Hybrid.

Sadtosaythis · 30/03/2025 22:56

TA and LS 21k. Term time only pay.

A lot of stress for a low wage. Do I enjoy it? Less than I used to. Kids are great. It’s rewarding.

SquidgibleDirigible · 30/03/2025 22:59

MD of a small business (not owner). 110k plus small % of operating profit. Love it, WFH most of the time, loads of opportunity to learn and grow and the service we deliver is useful.

typhon · 30/03/2025 23:00

Software engineer / computer scientist at a tech company working on AI. About £1.5m, and very enjoyable although quite intense at times.

Taniot · 30/03/2025 23:06

Senior medical director in pharma, £188k plus bonus (between £40k and £73k in the past 5 years)

WFH 3 days a week with a global team so most of my time is spent in teleconferences; generally 9 to 5; not much travel post COVID. I really enjoy it and it’s great knowing we are helping make a real difference for patients.

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 30/03/2025 23:07

Another underpaid Social work manager. 45k in my case. 20 years plus qualified. I didn’t go into it for the money, but it does gall that it is so underpaid for the amount of stress, workload and long hours.

TheHallouminati · 31/03/2025 00:02

I have a dual role as admin assistant and healthcare assistant in the NHS, I'm paid 24k working full time. I love my job but wish the pay was better.

Wow. Is this a FAANG company?

Whitesapphire · 31/03/2025 00:32

I’m a nurse and a unit manager in a mental health nursing home and I earn 55k basic but around 60k with overtime. It’s stressful at times but I enjoy it.

Yes. The main AI development employers in London are Google (DeepMind), Anthropic, Meta / Facebook, Microsoft, and OpenAI. We just need Nvidia to open a London office and we can be GAMMON.

University lecturer. Salary would be £58k if I was full time, but I work 4 days a week so it is pro rated to £46k. Yes, I enjoy it.

countingthedays945 · 31/03/2025 07:01

£67,000 and a senior lecturer. I’m 58 so going to be dropping my hours this year I think. It’s interesting, varied and flexible but I’m getting on and need a rest.

Hypercatalectic · 31/03/2025 07:02

Marketing manager in financial services sector, £75k plus variable bonus. I faffed around a bit before a sideways move into marketing but have always been business rather than consumer as that’s where the money is.

GiraffeCup · 31/03/2025 07:10

I always want to know how people get in to these hugely paid jobs. I can't break the £40 I have a data masters.

Like how are people earning so much money? I can't even find jobs paying more or look at the JD and think I can't do it.

Iwanttenofthose · 31/03/2025 07:12

I'm a civil servant, FTE 60k, the work is interesting, manageable workload and very flexible. I get bored in jobs easily and I know if that happens here I can move around to get the variety I crave and still make it look like progression.

ForLovingAquaSheep · 31/03/2025 07:17

£120k Tax Manager at a FTSE100.

Absolutely loathe it, get not satisfaction from it at all. Upsides are very good pension, WFH and the people are decent.

Spacecowboys · 31/03/2025 07:22

Clinical role nhs 65k , underpaid - like most nhs staff.

There's your answer right there, why do you think you can't do it? Just apply!

Yuja · 31/03/2025 07:39

Corporate learning and development, £45k. I quite like it - certainly more than when I was a school teacher! I don’t feel the salary reflects how hard I have to work and the fact I commute to London a few days a week, but the benefits such as holiday and pension are excellent.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 31/03/2025 07:48

Wow. I'm in the wrong job 😭. Wish I'd moved earlier.

UpUpUpU · 31/03/2025 07:53

I am a midwife. I work 30 hours and mostly nights so take home about £2500 a month. I pay 10% pension.

Absolutely love my job. I’ve just finished my night shift where I welcomed two gorgeous new babies into the world ❤️
