Keeping warm while WFH

BloodyVarifocals · 26/11/2024 18:28

Would love to hear how everyone else keeps warm while WFH - my house is relatively warm, but I tend to feel the cold.

Some of my favourite things:
Small plug in heated pad that I've strapped to my office chair
Ugg boots worn as slippers (have lasted for a few years so far)
Various neck warmers
M&S light heat tech vests and long sleeved tops to wear underneath woolly jumpers
Turtledove fingerless gloves

Small blanket for on my knee when I need it
Cheap leg warmers (Amazon)

I don't use all of these at once 😄. I've also just bought a Beurer plug in cushion for on the sofa, bliss.

@EmotionalSupportPotato, i have to find a balance between keeping me warm, and not making everyone else in the house too hot.

What temperature is it set to? Are others at home all day, too?

wiltywinnie · 26/11/2024 18:54

Heated throw

BloodyVarifocals · 26/11/2024 18:56

@Moier, I grew up with a coal fire too! I was always bloody freezing back then too.

I have to find a balance between keeping warm and paying the bills, like I'm sure a lot of other people do too at the moment. I have a fine knit wool shawl which is extremely cosy, and some fingerless gloves because my hands do get cold when typing. I have a small electric oil filled radiator as well, which I pop on occasionally, because my office doesn't have carpet or a radiator at the moment.

LetsNCagain · 26/11/2024 18:59

Our house is freezing, often below 15C inside.
I wear an oodie when I occasionally WFH. Dh wfh most of the week and wears a very thick hoodie, thick joggers and slippers with a solid sole. He still sometimes complains it's too cold so we sometimes put a fan heater on which makes it toasty in there

LetsNCagain · 26/11/2024 19:00

Oh yes fingerless gloves are good too, I have a few pairs for if I'm really cold, from turtledoves

Scottishskifun · 26/11/2024 19:01

Honestly get another heated blanket it's way cheaper then putting the heating on I absolutely love mine and it's perfect time with black Friday!
Mine is a dreamland one and it keeps me very warm! I generally put it onto 4 for 3 hours in the morning.

Babyboomtastic · 26/11/2024 19:02

If I wasn't working from home, I'd be commuting (where from £15-75 a day depending on reduce office I had to go to) and would likely buy lunch out. Staying toasty is cheap in comparison.

My game changer has been sitting in a sleeping bag. So toasty for my feet. Just up to waist so not visible on Teams etc.

This is a great idea. I find that I can keep my top half warm enough, but my legs & feet get cold (despite trousers, thick socks & slippers). I’m going to try the sleeping bag! Thanks

I think I spent £5 on petrol per day when I commuted to work. There was an M&S on-site though...

Exercise in your breaks. Brisk walk outside, YouTube video or dance to a sing on the radio.

HazelLion · 26/11/2024 19:07

I turn the heating on....

potatocakesinprogress · 26/11/2024 19:15

I run a coworking space for people wfh and I put the heating on 30 degrees. Actual room temp ends up about 23-24.

It gets all the people in as we charge very low rates so it's cheaper than them putting their heating on at home. Also works out better for the environment.

orangetriangle · 26/11/2024 19:17

I put the heating on when it goes below 19

Parkmybentley · 26/11/2024 19:18

Hot water bottle that straps on to you. Got mine from Home Bargains. Wear under jumpers!

Definitely covering the feet well makes a huge difference. And pop the hat off for meetings is all.

The sleeping bag to waist is genius. Why had I never thought of that!! Think my week just improved!!

Jellycoconut · 26/11/2024 19:22

I sit with my bottom half in a sleeping bag! Dead cosy

Jellycoconut · 26/11/2024 19:23

Ooh I see I am not the only one!

Wednesdaysotherchild · 26/11/2024 19:27

That temperature is too low, really. Isn't it suggested not to let it go below 18°c? Is it possible to get extra wfh hours so that you can pay for proper heating? It must be miserable.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 26/11/2024 19:33

I don't want to heat the whole house if I'm wfh and the only one here, so I tend to use a heated throw and warm clothes, thick socks and slippers. My hands get so cold though, I really must invest in some decent fingerless gloves!

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 26/11/2024 19:35

Also, my DH was here today while I was working, and turned the heating up to 20°, I actually got too warm! So I think I'll stick with keeping the heating off and using my heated throw.

comedycentral · 26/11/2024 19:38

I have a standing desk adjusting so I can get up and move around while working. I vacuum at lunchtime, that warms me up! I have a warm lunch like soup and hot drinks during the day. I generally wear nice and warm clothes like thermal socks, memory foam slippers, etc.

GOODCAT · 26/11/2024 19:50

Thermal top and thermal leggings from Mountain Warehouse which I wear under normal clothing. On top I have a polo neck which keeps my neck covered. Legs covered by blanket. This is mostly enough.
