Do you actually enjoy your job and going to work?

Just as above really..do you actually enjoy waking up and going to work. Does your job actually bring you enjoyment or just something you do as we have to work to afford to live..

I've only ever done one job (self employed too!) and it's quite an 'easy' job and I can choose my own hours ect which is nice but I've never enjoyed having to go to work. I loved to do beauty before I did it to earn a living but I constantly feel like UGH work tomorrow and dwell on it. Obviously I'm still going to work because I can't live without an income but wondering if this is normal or if I'm just in a crap career

I do love the industry I work in and my job (mostly)
i feel lucky
all jobs have their good and bad days - if you’re always having Sunday Night-itis or feeling demotivated then it’s time to look around

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 08/10/2024 19:46

I have worked in rather a niche area for my entire career. If I told you what it was 95% of people would think it awful and unfulfilling. I absolutely love it. I am an expert in a very niche field that makes a huge difference to people's lives. It is stressful, under resourced and I love it.

I am not one of those people that would carry on working if they won millions, but I don't hate going to work everyday. If I have to work for a living I'm glad I get to do this.

No, my manager is the problem which is a shame as it be a good role otherwise.

Ellsx6 · 08/10/2024 20:00

@rubyslippers it's only really since becoming pregnant that i think ive turned really unmotivated which sounds even worse because i should want to work to provide for my new little bundle of joy on the way but every night im just like ugh we go again tomorrow so i don't know if I should stick out until baby's here as it may change. I also feel stuck as obviously being self employed is easier around a child so partially I feel like I NEED to keep doing this. I'm super tired of the background of it too. Doing the physical treatments not so much. It's the constant 'sorry I'm unwell can we rearrange' obviously can't get sick because I'm pregnant but it's so draining having no set income and people being ill all the time. Time of year obviously doesn't help this

Yes. I'm old enough to retire but work because I enjoy it. I work with bright people and am constantly learning.

Jessie1259 · 08/10/2024 20:22

I enjoy my job because I work with some lovely people who have become good friends. I love my job mostly though because it is very part time.

KezzaMucklowe · 08/10/2024 20:25

Yes I love my job.
I haven't always though, which is whyly i feel so lucky now.
it's not just the job itself but the people I work with that make it for me

Who is being ill? Is it customers cancelling appointments? If so charge them unless they give x days notice. Sometimes people say they are ill if they want to cancell something.

If it is staff, then just scale down and have less staff.

No I don’t. I absolutely love my work and my team but the organisation is toxic. I’m looking for another job/weighing up starting a consultancy business.

Team, work and pay is great but I’m at the end of my rope.

WhamBamThankU · 08/10/2024 20:36

I love my job and am lucky that my boss is incredibly supportive. We regularly lose an hour on a Monday morning catching up!

Hoppinggreen · 08/10/2024 20:38

I am SE and I love my job
Its flexible, interesting and well paid. Earnings can be erratic though so I have to plan for that

DancefloorAcrobatics · 08/10/2024 20:44

My job is ok... there are some aspects I really like, but no, I don't enjoy going to work every day. It's a slog at times!
There are 1001 things I would rather do. But unfortunately I need the money...

I have a home salon and it's my clients who are cancelling due to illness as I'm pregnant so have to voice if you are ill please please cancel as I don't want to catch anything but 1 week alone I've had 4 cancellations. Luckily they reschedule but I feel like as they offer to come still even though there sick it's me that says they can't I can't charge them😫 I'm at a losing battle and it's making me hate the job because in all honesty I can't be bothered for all the messing late cancellations and rearranging

It seems majority of you enjoy your job so next question.. did you have multiple career changes before you found the thing you love?

I left a previous career that I quite liked but didn't love and did what I did now, had to stop for Covid and came back about 18 months ago.
Part fo the reason I love it is that I had to leave it for a bit and missed it so much, Wish I had come back earlier but got caught up in a regular salary

leia24 · 08/10/2024 20:52

I have a love hate relationship with my job. The actual work itself is great but the service I work for is horrible and misogynistic and full of bullies. I am unsurprisingly intending to leave once my daughter leaves school next year but right now it's convenient for me to stay

Neveranynamesleft · 08/10/2024 20:54

No

BG2015 · 08/10/2024 21:14

Not anymore. Time to move on.

Niceeyessweetheart · 08/10/2024 22:00

It's not that I loathe my job but that my job is so much bigger than the resources available that it makes it impossible. I am constantly failing because expectations are too high and time available is too low. It is causing me a great deal of anxiety and is very bad for my mental health right now.

We have had a change of management but it's not even them so much more that we actually don't have the manpower and I know they can't magic a budget from nowhere. My assistant has just quit so it will only get worse.

Public sector.

EmmaStone · 08/10/2024 22:12

Generally yes, I do like my job, and have done for most of my working career. Sure, there are good and bad days, but even on the bad days, I quite like the challenge of finding a fix.

Podiatrist?

MouseofCommons · 08/10/2024 22:21

Yes. It's admin but very varied. Lots of customer contact via phone. We don't have to follow a script so we're allowed to be a bit chatty with some people. I'd go mental if I couldn't respond like an actual human being.
Also lots of contact with our accounts dept and colleagues across the UK.

MermaidMummy06 · 08/10/2024 22:24

I enjoyed my last job. It was fulfilling & I had a lot of creative freedom & manager wasn't over my shoulder.

Current job, I loathe. It's mostly a management issue, though. I need the flexibility, but it's poorly paid, training is non existent & I'm just flapping about. The boss just makes decisions & announces, you're not asked or informed ahead of time. There's also nowhere to progress as it's a small company & dept manager has been there 20 years. Also, no matter how hard I work, pay is done on seniority & tiny increments (accountants ARE stingy!). E.g. I can't leapfrog a staff member whose been there 15 years and spends most of her time on the phone, gossiping to mates or the manager still needs task instructions listed! Also directors wives gleefully barely turn up for work & still get paid. So I'm disengaged.

Yes, I'm looking to move on after we've taken a pre-booked holiday next year. Family own the company so it won't go down well. Finding school hours jobs is tough, though!!

itsalwaysthesame · 08/10/2024 22:38

My current job is the best and it doesn't feel like work, it's full on, stressful, sad, frustrating but also fulfilling, humbling and never repetitive.

I meet so many different people from all walks of life, it's is so interesting and varied but the pay is not great.

Tumbleweed101 · 09/10/2024 08:37

I don't enjoy working these days. It isn't just the work but the having to get up and be somewhere. Going out and coming home in the dark and horrible weather through the winter months. I'd happily retire tomorrow and write novels and work on the garden. I think I'm just exhausted having been the sole provider for four children since my ex left in 2011. I'd love to be able to have a gap year and do what I want for a bit.
