Remote jobs for a teacher that is trying to leave teaching?

Any ex teachers who have managed to secure a hybrid or fully remote jobs? What are those jobs?

I need some ideas, most jobs want lots of experience in other things.

I'd love to know this too.

Might struggle to go straight into remote work - maybe look for office work first?

Not leaving teaching but teaching English online might be perfect for you

A friend does tutoring at home/child's home and ESL online. She does well.

Interesting about the online English teaching, but when I've briefly researched it you would struggle to earn the minimum wage because you're competing with English speakers from much poorer countries.

This is quite a useful source of info

Replying to my own post, but this thread gives $6.50 an hour as a good rate of pay!

Tutoring with a local college or university, as a study skills tutor, proofreader, etc. 1:1 sessions in person or remotely.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/08/2024 08:30

Writing assessment questions for test forms, remote proctoring or marking for year round exams like TOEFL or SELT.

Look for companies that do online testing:

Pearson Vue
Prometric
Exams-U
PSI
Trinity College London

Customer service for one of the many software packages in schools (MIS, teaching and learning, revision etc)

If you find your own students you set the price.

If it's the work from home part you want and you would still be happy teaching, online schools are growing and many of them now have quite decent salaries - typically a little less than mainstream scale but weigh up the lack of commuting costs and work-life balance and it's not bad at all.

Main ones to follow on TES jobs alerts and LinkedIn in no particular order:

Minerva's Virtual Academy
Kings Interhigh
Academy 21
Sophia High School

These ones are all 'proper schools' and I think they are all now DfE accredited through the OEAS. However there are many more smaller schools too which could be a way to get a foot in the door in this sector and see if it's for you.

I work in one of the above and it's changed my life hugely for the better. There are still the typical busy times when I work beyond my hours but I no longer have a commute or significant behaviour issues to deal with.

Pearson have fully remote jobs for Assessment Leaders come up quite alot.

InfoSecInTheCity · 20/10/2024 19:50

Did you have any success finding roles OP?

Just saw this come up in my LinkedIn network and thought of this thread.it says US Remote but I know this company hires globally so if it's of interest then it would be worth asking them if they'd consider U.K. applications www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4053155177

My friend does 1-2-1 tutoring for children for what ever reason aren’t in mainstream but the DOE fund tutoring for them

earns a fortune and does very little 70% of the kids ether don’t turn up or tell her to fuck off

BrightYellowStar · 20/10/2024 22:27

I left teaching just over 2 years ago.

I have a fully remote job in software training. Love it! One of the best decisions I ever made.

I'm 56 and retiring in the summer from my job in primary teaching.

I need a part time job doing something to top up my pension. I really don't want to have to create a presentation, jump through hoops, complete a task etc etc for something that will just be a job not a career.

Certainly thinking of tutoring but just not sure what I want to do.

I wonder whether working in M & S might just be easier and less stressful.

Hello, I realise your post was last year but if you read this would love to connect with this friend for some guidance. Having been diagnosed with an autoimmune, I am in dire need of reducing work hours away from home but need the salary to keep paying for my medical expenses (NHS has failed us again :()

Sheenane08 · 03/06/2025 13:41

Hi there, would you open to connecting. Would love to pick your brains and get some guidance on this.

As I just mentioned in response to someone else’s post as well, I am desperately looking at my options as a Maths teacher to work from home. Having been diagnosed with an autoimmune and somewhat struggling to keep up with the physical aspect of a school job, I am in dire need of reducing work hours away from home but need the salary to keep paying for my medical expenses (NHS has failed me unfortunately :()
