How long/what distance is your commute?

pretzel1212 · 24/08/2024 16:57

How long does it take you to get to work and how many miles is it?

My current commute is 10 miles takes about 20mins.

I am considering a job that's 27miles and with traffic may take about 50/55 mins.

I'm pretty sure an hour is quite normal but I'm not sure if it's too far?

An hour each way for me, but I only go into the city about once or twice a week.

PinkDreamer · 24/08/2024 18:21

10 minute walk. So much better than the previous 2 hours I used to spend commuting via walking, bus, and train

invisiblecat · 24/08/2024 18:37

A drive of 12 miles, which takes anywhere between 25 and 40 minutes depending on school holidays. 50/50 rural roads and dual carriageways.

plominoagain · 24/08/2024 18:38

100 miles each way nearly every day 5 days a week . 2.5 hrs each way on top of a 12 hour shift .

elQuintoConyo · 24/08/2024 18:39

15 minute walk for me, my other half WFH. Bloody brilliant!

pretzel1212 · 24/08/2024 19:48

Thanks all. Seems my 27 miles isn't really much and would only be three times a week. Thanks again for your replies.

I cover 7 offices. Nearest is 20 mins/24 miles away; furthest is 1 hr 45/75 likes away.

An hour should be fine. I did an hour for 20
years! It's nice amount of wind down time.

RuthW · 24/08/2024 20:52

9 miles taking 17 mins.

BrendaSmall · 24/08/2024 20:54

2.6 miles, 7/8 minutes on my motorbike!

Witchbitch20 · 24/08/2024 20:55

33 miles each way. 75/80mins but major roadworks so sometimes longer.

Positivenancy · 24/08/2024 20:59

15-20mins depending on traffic but only traffic for the latter half entering the city as I live rurally. And only 3 days a week.

tinytemper66 · 24/08/2024 20:59

30 miles and about an average of 45-60 minutes.

EternallyDelighted · 24/08/2024 21:12

Currently driving 10 miles / 20 minutes, mostly on dual carriageway.

Previously driving 25 miles / 45-50 mins mostly on winding cross country unlit A road, 5 days a week, no WFH. It was tiring in winter, I had to concentrate really hard on the road ahead plus dazzling headlights etc. It was also a stressful, intense job and for a lot of the time I was either pregnant or had a baby and then two young DCs.

crackfoxy · 24/08/2024 21:26

35 miles one way. Takes an hour ish. Its great. I listen to podcasts/music drink my tea or catch up on calls.

Mumistiredzzzz · 24/08/2024 21:28

Currently up to 1hr20 for a measly 45 miles, in my new job in two weeks it's a 4 minute walk, 3 if I speed up 😂

socks1107 · 24/08/2024 21:30

90 minutes door to door.
Mainline train and tube x4 days a week.
1 day a week I wfh

MarvellousMidgeMaisel · 24/08/2024 21:33

My DS school is around 30 mins away depending on traffic, so an hour round trip twice a day. I know it sounds nuts but I quite enjoy the drive tbh… I put on a podcast and gather my thoughts.

NotMeNoNo · 24/08/2024 21:38

3 miles/ 20 mins bike or public transport.
I stuck out a 25 mile each way commute on busy roads for about 12 years but it did grind me down, it was 30 mins if the motorway was empty but could easily be an hour. When I lived in London an hour journey on train/tube was common but driving is hard work.

StMarieforme · 24/08/2024 22:21

12 miles 45 minutes.

WhyDontWeDoItInTheRoad · 24/08/2024 22:35

I work 2 days a week in the office - soon to be 2 different offices on these different days

My closest office is 35 minutes in good traffic, but about an hour if I'm caught in the rush (25 miles or so)

The further away office is 50 miles away, and will be an 1-2 hours each way

SeaweedSundress · 24/08/2024 22:38

If I really rush, I can be at my workplace in eight minutes. If I go through the park , admire the herons, and have a coffee in my hand, fifteen.

GuestSpeakers · 24/08/2024 22:48

My office is 24 miles away and takes about 45-60 minutes. It's short during school holidays and longer in term time. I only go in 2-3 days a week which helps. I either listen to music or an audiobook/podcast. Most of the time I don't mind it.

Chickoletta · 24/08/2024 22:50

10-15 min drive.

RoseUnder · 24/08/2024 22:56

200 miles, 3 hours door to door, once a week (two days in office, three days wfh).

I pay for train and hotel. Well worth it for the job, salary, and long term career prospects. I enjoy the commute and having one evening when I can stay immersed in work / take early breakfast meetings the next day - usually a social (event, drink, or dinner) with colleagues or business contacts = great for my management of the team, profile in the sector and networking.
