phone any of them and let them work it out...!

It's your old employer responsible for issuing P45 though......

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 12:52

My employer wont give me p45 until end of the month and my new employer has sent me a p46.It says online that you should fill this in if you have lost your p45,which i have notalso i dont know which box to tick on it as i am none of the options they give.

It will be fine to complete P46 - it's for when P45 is "not available". Do pass on P45 when you get it though.

You must fit one of the statements! Why don't you??

dilbertina · 08/04/2008 12:59

Incidentally if you haven't started working for new employer yet and left old one before end of last tax year the P45 is pretty meaningless to new employer anyway as will refer to last year. If this is the case then almost certainly you should tick statement a.

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:05

I dont fit any of the personal circumstances

A-This is my first job since last 6 April and i have not been receiving JA or taxable IB or a state or occupational pension.

B-This is now my only job but since last 6 april i have had another job or have received JA or IB .I do not receive a state or occupational pension.

C-I have another job or receive a state or occupational pension.

I was made redundant on march 31st.

I have no p45 until end of April this month.

I started new permanent part time job yesterday.

I am going to be starting on a Bank relief occasional work postion.

I do/have not receive any benefits or pensions.

My service will go down as an extra week with old employer as i had a weeks A/L tagged onto my final salary.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:08

Isn't his your first job since 6 April? Thean A.

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:08

Iif last April refers to 2007 then you're B)

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:10

Would the relief job have to be included though if i fall into catagory B?

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:13

I assume so...

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:16

so i wouldnt be in cat b then

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:18

Right, am getting confused too!

If we assume 'last 6 Paril' means Sunday, this is your first job since then. So a. If they want to know about the last tax year, then you're in B as you had another job previously.

Can you ring HR and check?

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:26

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Think i will have to not sure who i have to call there either though.

Thanks anyway for all the replies

dilbertina · 08/04/2008 13:27

ok what is your "leaving date" for old job?
If 31st March then you are statement a. If official leave date is 7th April (ie Holiday will be added on rather than just paid in lieu) then you'll be statement b.

Am I right in thinking you effectively are starting 2 new jobs? one new permanent part-time position plus occasional relief work somewhere else? If so the part-time job would be statement a or b and the relief work would be statement c.

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:28

oh you have 2 jobs. Right. C. I think. You already have a job and are filling in the form for job no. 2?

Ask the person who hired you - they can point you to teh right person in HR.

dilbertina · 08/04/2008 13:29

I mean when you complete P46 for the relief work you'd put statement c - you don't worry about it when filling in form for part-time main job.

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:29

Ah right so i think i am cat B then for this job and tbh i dont know anything about this sort of thing so i didnt know there would be a seperate one for the relief work.
Will i be able to claim tax back when i get my p45 do you know?

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 13:30

I think if your job ended at the end of the tax year you wouldn't be entitled to tax back

but they will tell you if so

dilbertina · 08/04/2008 13:31

To be honest, this is hugely complicated by the fact you don't know if you ended old job this new tax year or the last one. If I were you I'd just tick a on P46 for new part-time job and c on P46 for new relief one. - That'll be fine!

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:33

Thankyou both

Lord knows why my life has to be so complicated lol.

OP posts:
dilbertina · 08/04/2008 13:33

Highly unlikely you've overpaid tax since ypou have been paid every period in year so would have had each months portion of tax-free allowance taken into account.

Beauregard · 08/04/2008 13:35

I just thought that the p46 would put me in the emergency tax catagory.
