How many days in office do you think of when you hear the term ‘hybrid working’?

For me, I think 1-2 days in the office. But is that unrealistic now?

Certainly not 4, which is what I used to have pre Covid in many companies.

I’m looking for a new role at the moment and I’m trying to get a sense of what’s now realistic. I’m not keen on being in the office 3 days a week and my type of job can be done from home. Also being a mum, my priority is the maximise the time I can spend with my child even if it means taking a slightly lower paid job.

To me it would mean 2-3 days in the office and 2-3 days at home.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/05/2024 19:18

2-3

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/05/2024 19:19

Or, 8-12 across a month. It doesn't have to be weekly.

EarringsandLipstick · 08/05/2024 19:20

Almost everywhere I know is doing 3 days on-site / 2 days WFH but with some flexibility in certain cases.

It really depends on the role, the organisational culture & the business need.

Hybrid will mean different things in each organisation.

I wouldn't start with such a fixed mindset. Explore the role you want, and establish how much discretion around WFH there is, later on in the discussions.

TheFunHasGone · 08/05/2024 19:20

We've just gone up to 3

YouveGotAFastCar · 08/05/2024 19:20

3 seems common, from what I’ve read, but I’m sure there was Times research recently that said most companies used “hybrid” to describe 3 or 4 days in the office and “remote” to describe 1 or 2, which I feel jars with what most people would expect!

I guess there’s a lot of candidates for any job right now, especially if it’s decently paid; so they can afford to be picky.

Jeannne92 · 08/05/2024 19:21

I would say it means at least 5 or 6 days out of 10 in the office.

Cerialkiller · 08/05/2024 19:22

3 days a week max and anything less then that.

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 08/05/2024 19:22

We are suppose to do 2 WFH/3 in office

Figgygal · 08/05/2024 19:22

2-3
I'm still getting away with once a week and I dont even stick to that tbh luckily we not into presenteeism and I'm trusted to get the job done

Sanch1 · 08/05/2024 19:24

2-3 for us in office or on site. Sometimes I do 2, sometimes 3 depending on business needs and family needs.

DelurkingAJ · 08/05/2024 19:24

We’re doing roughly 2 days in the office and 3 WFH. Some of my team are in one day. They’re hard working professionals who I trust implicitly. We are seeing it as a major selling point with new hires…which suggests it’s not now normal.

SirChenjins · 08/05/2024 19:24

2-3 in the office, 2-3 at home.

blueshadesintheroom · 08/05/2024 19:26

Our company says 60% of your monthly hours should be in the office. Some people work that as 3 days per week and others do 4 one week and 2 the next. You are expected to inform your team of your working pattern a week in advance though.

atlaz · 08/05/2024 19:27

3 days a week max

Currently job hunting and where it's specified it seems to be anywhere between 3 days a week and 2 days a month.

For something that's so variable a surprising number don't give any detail beyond 'hybrid'

I’m sure there was Times research recently that said most companies used “hybrid” to describe 3 or 4 days in the office and “remote” to describe 1 or 2, which I feel jars with what most people would expect!

Difference between hybrid and remote to me is hybrid you're paying to get to the office yourself, remote means if you're asked into the office the company is paying.

Fulshaw · 08/05/2024 19:27

I think 3 is becoming the new norm. I agree I wouldn’t see 4 as ‘hybrid’.

BreakfastAtMimis · 08/05/2024 19:29

2 or 3. I do 1 which is why I can never change jobs now, most places want you in more!

NoTouch · 08/05/2024 19:31

Ours is officially 60%. Boss is in a different location and doesn’t care if I go in or not, she knows she gets more from me at home.

Bosses, boss is in my location and moans if people are not in so I try to time going in when he is just to show face, I probably do 4-5 days a month.

TeenTraumaTrials · 08/05/2024 19:31

In Scottish Government it is 'supposed' to mean at least one day a week not at home. But in reality it means you can set foot in the office as little as once a month (as some people I know do) and no-one will bat an eyelid as 'they can do their jobs just as effectively remotely'.

coxesorangepippin · 08/05/2024 19:32

2

Heatedblanky · 08/05/2024 19:35

Three days at home, two in the office springs to mind, but it could mean anything.

Dozer · 08/05/2024 19:37

Depends on the employer. In large private sector organisation and full time contract would assume 3 days in office

IWishThatYouWouldStay · 08/05/2024 19:37

We have to be in the office 3 out of 5 days.

Dizzy82 · 08/05/2024 19:38

I would think 2-3 days in office per week.

I currently go to an office 1 day per month, our building was shut to save money and now WFH.

FrothyCothy · 08/05/2024 19:42

Ours is 20-40% in the office. We do once a week, chief exec wants twice a week but we have recruited people from all over the UK over the past few years which makes more frequent office attendance more expensive/inconvenient. We already have a retention problem so can’t see it changing any time soon.
