Would you turn down a job if flexible working/WFH wasn't an option?

I've just been offered a role in the sector I work in (arts/culture) and despite advertising that the organisation supports flexible working, was told that as a senior manager they'd expect me in full time with occasional WFH e.g. 1 day/every few weeks but depending on needs, so likely less frequently. Role also involves a lot of weekend and evenings for events.

I currently WFH 2 days, onsite 3 days. Was surprised at how much having to work onsite FT was a deal-breaker for me and despite it being an interesting job am inclined to turn it down.

Is being able to WFH a deal-breaker for you?

Yes massive deal breaker and currently what is keeping me in my role. My hours / wfh pattern is great

DGPP · 23/01/2024 16:07

Yes, I’d turn it down. Those days are gone and I will now always look for roles that offer a wfh/office balance

Having now done hybrid work I would not go to an office full time again unless I was on the career path wanting every opportunity.

It would have to be both a big jump in salary and a job I really wanted for me to go full time to an office. Working flex with WFH 3 days a week and the lack of commute is the only way I manage to get through menopausal insomnia and still have any kind of life.

EffortlessDistraction · 23/01/2024 18:13

No from me, provided it's less than an hour I have no desire to WFH in fact I'd never apply for a job that expected WFH or hybrid. So it's a no from me.

Deal breaker for me.

hexsnidgett · 23/01/2024 22:00

No. I would hate to WFH and realistically we haven't the room.

When do you need to let them know, @Waferbiscuit? 🌹

Waferbiscuit · 24/01/2024 10:52

@Newestname002 end of this week! So I have time!

Absolutely 💯 however if I was expected to manage people and they had to be at work then I would want to be at work with them. Personally I believe the only way to manage/lead people is by example.
