Wages shows on HMRC but never received any wages in my account

I started working a few weeks ago for this school. Pay day is 24th monthly. The 24th of December is a public holiday and on a weekend so I'm expecting payday would be the Friday before. I checked my HMRC tax account and saw that I was being paid on the 24th. But till date today being the 27th,I have not received any wages in my account. Painful is that I have no money left enough for the new year celebrations and it's my son's tenth birthday on the 2nd. I can't get access to HR or payroll till school resumes after the new year. I have direct debits going out my account by 31st

Do they have incorrect bank details for you?

Wegosassy · 28/12/2023 04:39

No I gave my correct bank details.

They may have entered the bank details wrong, its harder to do these days with COP but not impossible. You will only be able to check with Payroll, unfortunately.

Ambi · 28/12/2023 04:50

Have you had a payslip? That would be the confirmation of your wages being processed.

Wegosassy · 28/12/2023 16:29

No I haven't got it.

Guess I have to wait till school resumes and I will have to miss out direct debits and bills

Try emailing the main office address or finance, somebody might be keeping an eye on emails.

LIZS · 28/12/2023 16:38

How many weeks is "a few"? Might you have missed the payroll cut off date, especially as it may have been earlier to allow for Christmas.

Serene135 · 28/12/2023 16:41

You might have to wait until the next pay day if you missed the pay cut off date.

youhavenoidea123 · 28/12/2023 16:44

We got paid a week earlier for Christmas, depending on when you started you may have to wait until January. We also get paid earlier in January.

Surely, this is something you mention to people who are just starting? Especially at that time of the year.

The fact HMRC thinks she has been paid is unsettling too (even though I suspect it was an automatic thing….). It could easily mess her benefits hugely fir example (due to non matching payment dates etc….)

burnoutbabe · 28/12/2023 17:18

Could it be you get the money tomorrow

We got paid 22nd (early as December) but payslips on end of month as that's the usual release date.
It's possible they just did the tax forms early as people went off on holiday. And pay and psyslup at end of month.

Though if anyone else has been paid and you not, that is a different issue and I assume they got bank details wrong. Or uploaded the pay file using last months details (which is stupid as you check the pay file to the reports from the payroll and double /triple check it!)

"You might have to wait until the next pay day if you missed the pay cut off date."

that would happen where I work

Wegosassy · 28/12/2023 23:23

Other colleagues got paid 22nd and it shows on HMRC that iv been paid in 24th

OP posts:
Wegosassy · 28/12/2023 23:26

That would put me in a whole tight spot. As I have bills to pay, food and kids school clubs to pay when school starts

OP posts:
Wegosassy · 28/12/2023 23:27

I have but no response. Cause everyone is on holiday

Okay so you need to raise hell to get hold of someone to make a payment tomorrow as yours has been sent to wrong bank account.

There must be sone boss you can contact to get them to speak to a finance person somewhere?

SecondUsername4me · 28/12/2023 23:51

Ask your colleagues for the Business Managers number.

MamaDollyorJesus · 29/12/2023 00:17

@JustExistingNotLiving reporting to HMRC isn't automatic - a payment would have to be processed through the payroll software & submitted on an FPS for HMRC to show anything in the OP's personal tax portal.

This seems like an issue with the BACS - I have clients where I still have to manually add new employees & process payments - it could be the OP's employer is the same & someone has forgotten to add them to the BACS run.

Only the employer (or their payroll dept) will be able to tell OP what has happened & there should always be someone on call if pay day falls during a shut down period to deal with this sort of thing.

Wegosassy · 29/12/2023 04:18

Thanks but I can't hold of anyone till school resumes as they all on holiday

Don't let the DDs bounce. Contact the companies concerned and let them know what has happened and ask them to delay the DD collection. If needs be cancel the DDs via your bank at least one working day before the collection date.

Even if you get charged by the provider (eg for a credit card payment), you won't then get charged by your bank also.

No phone number/mobile for a boss, colleague who could contact someone else.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/12/2023 08:52

Could you go in to the school? It is highly likely someone will be in and even if they can't directly help they may know who you can contact. But, if payment was on 24th it'll take three working days unless it's a faster payment. Someone forgot to add you to the payroll run in time.

saraclara · 29/12/2023 08:55

Is your school a local authority school? If so, contact payroll at your LA. They're the ones who make the payments, not the school. And someone will be there.

prh47bridge · 29/12/2023 10:04

If you suffer any financial loss as a result of this, you are entitled to compensation from the school. On the information posted, they are in breach of contract and are therefore liable.
