What would you like for Christmas off the boss!

I run a small company with three women on the team ages 30-50. I'm providing a financial bonus but I also want to get a gift to say thank you for all their hard work this year. But I'm quite terrible at buying gifts! What would you like?

It's a marketing based role they do and they work from home. I spending £50 on each and thinking mug, diary, nice plant and card? What do you think!

I'd be happy to receive those

Mugs and diaries I tend to just buy cheap so would be a nice treat

Good on you for showing your appreciation

abbs1 · 27/11/2023 21:18

Maybe a small hamper?

labamba007 · 27/11/2023 21:21

Oh yes a hamper is a good idea!

And thank you @anybloodyname 😃 good to hear they sound good!

Hand written card saying thank you to accompany a nice token gift - because that actually takes effort and I would therefore feel valued.

Beyond that, I'd rather have a £50 voucher that I could spend on something of my own choice instead of £50 of stuff chosen for me. Less wasteful.

user628468523532453 · 27/11/2023 21:26

I have too many mugs. I'd appreciate the gesture and be grateful, but also inwardly groan because I don't have any space for more gift mugs.

(And I have gifted other people mugs in the past so not judging!)

fishfingersandtoes · 27/11/2023 21:27

I've never had a present from a boss. I think what I'd like is a card that says they appreciate my work and gives some specifics of what I've done that they thought was good.
Failing that a bottle of wine, cheese, chocolate, but anything really.

Such a good point about preferring a voucher! Thank you.

Haha actually come to think of it my mug cupboard is quite full! 😂

Wow that’s really lovely of you. I would want some appreciation, so a thank you card would be nice. I really wouldn’t want tat, and I’m sorry to say but all of that would go straight to the charity shop. A really nice bottle of champagne, not cheap Prosecco, would be appreciated and enjoyed on Christmas Day. The voucher idea is nice but not very personal.

QuestionableMouse · 27/11/2023 21:34

I'd rather just have the £50 added to my bonus, or maybe some nice chocolate.

Whiskerson · 27/11/2023 21:36

Nothing, honestly. I have enough stuff and don't want to make room for a mug and plant I didn't choose.

The bonus is already amazing and a personal card thanking them for their work (the more specific, the better) is also amazing. Don't gild the lily.

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 27/11/2023 21:37

Gifts are fab and it's super considerate, but voucher safest & time the best gift of all - an extra afternoon off in lead up to Christmas to get shopping done for example.

witchypaws · 27/11/2023 21:37

Honestly with cost of living I would just prefer a voucher. I know it's not original but I could buy stuff I needed
£50 for me is a weeks food and I would be gutted if it was between a voucher and a mug/plant etc

Whiskerson · 27/11/2023 21:38

Hotchocolatemousse · 27/11/2023 21:37

I'd be happy with some chocolate digestives too 😂

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/11/2023 21:38

Harvey nics usually has a nice wine and nibbles hamper for about that price.

SylvieLaufeydottir · 27/11/2023 21:38

Money. Or time off.

This. I wouldnt want a diary chosen for me. I have plenty of mugs.

labamba007 · 27/11/2023 21:39

Thanks so much everyone. So glad I asked on here. I'm thinking afternoon off and an extra 50 added to the bonus instead and a nice card. Not so wasteful and more useful!

I once got a beautiful hat box of festive flowers that I loved. It looked splendid all Christmas and I greatly appreciated it.

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/11/2023 21:40

I think that's the right decision. That's very generous of you and I know you would enjoy choosing gifts, but I think the actual money is worth more to people. Great that you're giving them an extra half day as well.

SofiYol · 27/11/2023 21:41

You sound like a wonderful boss, they’re very lucky to have you.

JustFrustrated · 27/11/2023 21:55

Not a hamper.

Please.

It's too risky; people's tastes differ so often times a lot is gifted on/wasted, allergies, intolerances etc etc

Notebook, diary, nice pen, and a £10 voucher. Done.

My boss before last gave us all, a pack of biros, a notebook and a costa voucher (field reps) very very well recieved.

lactonic · 27/11/2023 21:56

I agree with a lovely heartfelt card and vouchers. I would give vouchers rather than extra in the bonus, it feels more like a gift that way. Plus with it be taxed if in their bonus? I'm a mug snob so I wouldn't want anyone choosing or buying a mug for me. Same with diaries.
