Manager taking over the allocated annual leave

Pollypickme · 15/11/2023 23:05

My manager has consistently taken around 10 days more than our allocation for the past 5-6 years.
he is the type of manager who watches everyone’s leave and sickness to the minute apart from his own. Not a nice person at all and generally unsupportive of his staff

There is a manager above him who needs to sign off this annual leave but the end of year sheet is normally adjusted to ‘cover up’

some annual leave days are also erased from the diary like they never happened.

what would you all do in this situation?

Nothing... or leave.

Maddy70 · 15/11/2023 23:12

Nothing ....

My old boss used to do this! Would add in an extra body and just leave the two of us in the store with himself on the rota and hoped his boss wouldn't phone! I didn't actually do anything - got very tempted when he left me alone in the store for half the day on Father's Day (our companies busiest day) but ultimately didn't want to rock the boat. It was clear he wasn't interested with this attitude and he left a couple of months later, I have his job now.

Anonymously tip off HR?

Whataretheodds · 15/11/2023 23:20

How do you know he's not entitled to more leave than you?

How large is the company?

Aprilx · 16/11/2023 07:01

I would do nothing. You may, probably don’t, have the full picture. It is for your manager’s manager to address this as they see fit.

Elastica23 · 16/11/2023 07:07

I'd ask him outright whether managers get more leave as he seem to be off a lot.

GettinChillyHereFFS · 16/11/2023 07:08

I'd mind my own business.

Anonymously tip off HR?

Wouldn't they know already?

Pollypickme · 16/11/2023 07:34

Because we work for the NHS. I know exactly what he is entitled to based on banding and length of service

Could he have bought more annual leave? I did that a few years (NHS). But we all know that he probably is lying about it. If he's a twat id probably go to HR.

Pollypickme · 16/11/2023 07:36

No. Everything is done on paper Instead of electronically

He’s an awful horrible man who doesn’t care about anything. Staff well-being, sickness etc. while he is constantly off sick himself

Anonymous tip off to hr and his manager and his managers manager

MyCircumference · 16/11/2023 07:44

is it toil?

MyCircumference · 16/11/2023 07:44

do nothing
why do you even count up his leave days?
concentrate on yourself,
or report <<shrug>>

RudsyFarmer · 16/11/2023 07:47

What could you do. List the possibilities and we can rate them according to whether is worst the risk of a blow back to you.

ohsobroody · 16/11/2023 07:50

Yes could he have bought it? To my colleagues it probably looks like I take too much but I've paid for the privelge Grin

Mumof1andacat · 16/11/2023 07:51

Surprised your trust does annual leave on paper still. We have been on electronic leave and rostas since 2010 in my trust.

Holly2285 · 16/11/2023 07:51

I had this in a previous job. Manager would literally make us make up any time we took for doctors, dentist etc to the second. He refused to let me leave half an hour early in an emergency (i did anyway) He would take extra leave and not put it on holiday calendar or the online system. He would "work from home" and then post on Facebook that he's playing golf. So he was never available when needed him and we had other colleagues/manager asking us where he is etc. It all got too much and in the end the team went to his manager about it. Ended up going to HR, he admitted to what he had done AND admitted to doing it the year before as well. He got fired.

nomoretoriesforme · 16/11/2023 07:53

Anonymous tip to HR and management...

SylvieLaufeydottir · 16/11/2023 07:57

The odds that this is going to get him actually fired, in the NHS, is pretty low, from where I sit. So before you involve yourself, unless his absences are causing significant day-to-day difficulty, I'd ask yourself what you want out of meddling and whether you're willing to risk your boss becoming your enemy for life.

RedChester · 16/11/2023 07:57

This is fraud and your NHS trust will have a fraud team you can report it to, likely anonymously. Have a look on your staff intranet.

RedChester · 16/11/2023 07:59

It’s actually gross professional misconduct and In my experience as a senior NHS manager it would be investigated and he would get the sack.

MumblesParty · 16/11/2023 08:05

I would report him. The NHS is on its knees and doesn’t need to be subsidising people who are taking the piss.
