It's unusual to be hired on the spot. Your expectations are wrong.

ItsMyUkelele · 20/07/2023 00:33

Unless you're the only person being interviewed it would be impossible to let you know whether you'd got the job there and then.

It's far more usual to wait a few days. Good luck!

It's happened in the past to people I know that have got the job on the spot it's not as unusual as you think so your opinion is wrong

Omg yeah I completely didn't think that they could of had more interviews for the job role that makes sense know why they said I would of heard by such a date and thank you for the luck :)

It’s hugely instal to be hired on the spot in most jobs now.

It’s actually considered a red flag of an employer. The only time I have known it was when we needed to revisit 400 call centre staff at once. But we pretty much took anyone that passed the checks.

I suppose it depends on what sort of job it was, how many available posts there etc

But it’s really not unusual, at all, to not be hired on the spot.

mrsmacmc · 20/07/2023 01:10

Very unusual to be offered on the spot and as a PP has said a potential red flag 🚩. Good luck and I hope you get positive news on Fri or Mon 🤞🏻

Spinewars23 · 20/07/2023 02:34

I was told hired on the spot last August then and there after 20 minutes I had job fit but the next 14 days wasn’t great (seeing temp jobs advertised for Xmas but the b’ham manager had 20 years under their belt who had taken you on immediately I’d later find put) but the particular manager was then a pass the parcel for a parcel company (Birmingham Manager recruited for Bury St Edmunds etc)

I certainly wondered what was going on and the legitimacy of it all. Turned out ok don’t suppose you’ll get offers on the spot going forward.

Ex recruiter here - it’s vanishingly rare.
It’s much more unusual to be offered the job on the spot, as they’ll need to interview other people, look at performance scoring etc

LucyLongbody · 20/07/2023 04:27

I've been hired on the spot twice in my long working life.
Other than that, the quickest I've heard was the next day.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/07/2023 04:51

Agree - I'd be very wary of being offered a role on the spot.

Any reputable organisation will have a series of interviews, complete scoring at the end, and ensure senior sign-off. This can happen quickly, or in my organisation, take a week or so.

Good luck!

AutieNOT0tie · 20/07/2023 06:15

It depends on the job, roles like bar work, warehouse, carer where there's often multiple hires will get the job if they pass the interview.

Most other roles they are choosing so need to see everyone then make a decision

unlikelychump · 20/07/2023 06:17

Won't the interviewers want to confer with each other, without you there?

lousyatchoosingnames · 20/07/2023 07:29

I've never been hired 'on the spot'. The interviewers need to discuss their decisions with others usually before actioning.

katmarie · 20/07/2023 07:43

I've never been hired on the spot, and I've changed jobs every couple of years for the past 10 years. The soonest I've heard an offer is the same afternoon following a final interview that morning. But that was after 3 or maybe 4 rounds of interviewing.

Quveas · 20/07/2023 07:49

Wow, that is hugely rude, and the poster is not wrong - if there are many roles available and the job is unskilled it might happen, but it would be rare to be hired on the spot. Most employers interview a number of people, and also also may take up references or other checks before confirming a job offer. Given that you have very little experience of working or recruitment practices, it would be unwise to make assertions about something you know little about; and it really isn't at all polite to tell somebody they are wrong when you don't know what you are talking about.

Although it is not necessarily the case, in my experience those few employers who might "hire on the spot" are often not the kind of employers most people want to work for. If there are a lot of roles available (and often rapid turnover of staff) then the reason is usually not a good one.

determinedtomakethiswork · 20/07/2023 07:59

Don't talk to people like that if you do get the job will you, OP?

Ragged · 20/07/2023 08:01

Low paid jobs yes on the spot, other jobs I find that if I get an offer it's an hour or 2 later, by phone.

If I don't get the job it's up to 8 weeks later and many ignored emails before they say so.

Pinkneonballoon · 20/07/2023 08:18

If its any kind of decent company or organisation you definitely don't get the job on the spot. They need to do the scoring and dicuss candidates. Totally normal.

xxalhxx · 20/07/2023 10:28

@Quveas I'm "hugely rude" for telling someone their opinion is wrong I could of said way worse and in which they was wrong as past people have said they had been hired on the spot in which case that person was wrong then and that's abit hypocritical when the came for me first to tell me I was WRONG so I don't get why your so offended I didn't say anything bad?🤣🤣

If I get outspoken to for no apparent reason then yes treat people how you want to be treated your comment is also irrelevant?

Although thankyou to everyone who had genuine advice I didn't know that it was a red flag or considered a bad thing to get the job on the spot I will be mindful now when I have other interviews xoxo

OP, you come across as quite confrontational (and it's "would have" not "would of", I sincerely hope it's not a job in education). You want the employer to make a careful and considerate hire not an impulsive one.

Good luck

And you come across as cheeky this is not a job interview it's a thread me in a interview to me on here are 2 different people so again your irrelevant

Quveas · 20/07/2023 16:29

I can see why you didn't get the job on the spot. If this is how you speak to people then you'll find few hiring managers want you on their books. And I hope your applications don't come across as these posts do, which suggest you have had too much to drink before typing. Several people - including me - gave you accurate and detailed information despite how rude you were, and your response was to become offensive.
