Is this a bad sign?

I had an interview today all went well I got told at the end if I got the job I'd hear something by Friday or Monday latest which is fine although I thought you get the job on the spot if you got it just wondering have they just let me of😂😂sorry I've not had a job in years due to leaving college then having a child soo😂

OP posts:

You are coming across very badly on here, OP. In your first post, you make it quite clear that you have been out of work for years, so understandably you're a bit out of touch. Another poster comes along and tells you, quite rightly, that your expectations about getting a job on the spot are not realistic, and you then very rudely - and quite wrongly - tell them that they don't know what they're talking about.

Given that you have been out of the workplace for such a long time, a little humility wouldn't go amiss... you might learn something useful from people with more experience than you.

Howdoesitworkagain · 20/07/2023 21:32

Yes, the way you’re talking to people is a very bad sign. It is extremely unusual to be offered a job on the spot. Hopefully dodged a bullet there.

OP, you come across as quite confrontational (and it's "would have" not "would of", I sincerely hope it's not a job in education). You want the employer to make a careful and considerate hire not an impulsive one.

Good luck

I was going to say that I hope her job is not anything to do with the English language because...

Because how people write on their phone on a forum is the same as at work right? Are you normally so unkind? What a nasty look.

londonba · 24/07/2023 21:29

So I’ve only had 4 jobs in my life. 1st job I found out later that evening that I was successful. 2nd job took a couple of days. 3rd job took a week and the 4th took like 2 weeks! There’s no real precedent

xxalhxx · 20/07/2023 12:04

And you come across as cheeky this is not a job interview it's a thread me in a interview to me on here are 2 different people so again your irrelevant

I don't normally comment on grammar but considering this is a work related board and you are so downright rude, I was tempted to comment on "would have" versus "would of" myself.

I have not been offered a job on the spot since I secured my paper round in 1982. And nor have I come across it since then. Even if I was hugely enthusiastic about a candidate, I would not be so unprofessional.

Are you suggesting people would write "would of" in casual conversation despite knowing that it should be "would have" but they are deliberately using incorrect grammar because it it not professional correspondence?

Very odd if so. My grammar knowledge is my grammar knowledge, it is imperfect, but I don't flick a switch to deliberately downgrade it depending upon who I am communicating with.

peachgreen · 25/07/2023 15:05

That poster's opinion wasn't wrong. S/he said it was unusual, not unheard of. It is unusual. And you are rude.

Groovee · 25/07/2023 15:07

I've had a few interviews in the past 6 years where they've told me a day about 5/6 days away only to be called the day after and told I was successful. I know with my current job, they were interviewing for a couple of posts but were able to make the decision quicker.

Exactly this!

OP: Is it strange to wait to hear about a job?

Other Poster No, its unusual to be told on the spot.
OP: You are wrong

Why did you ask a question if you think you know better than everyone else?

Ffsmakeitstop · 27/07/2023 20:05

It's also you're not your. You are incredibly rude op.

Hannahsbananas · 27/07/2023 20:09

xxalhxx · 20/07/2023 00:43

It's happened in the past to people I know that have got the job on the spot it's not as unusual as you think so your opinion is wrong

You’ve clearly been out of the workplace for a long time.

Hannahsbananas · 27/07/2023 20:09

Unless they were seriously wanky jobs…

MrsColinRobinson · 27/07/2023 20:16

I'm guessing op didn't get the job...how surprising 🤔

I think they made a good call

PinkBuffalo · 27/07/2023 20:26

I think it is rare these days op
in my place of work everyone is interviewed across a couple of days and then scored so it can be up to a week before peoples find out

20 years ago the best job interview I ever had was for a cleaning job and I turned up and he was like what size are you as he fished a uniform out the cupboard and can you start Monday 😂
I was in that job for 3 years lol

Thelonelygiraffe · 27/07/2023 20:26

I hope your job doesn't involve any writing 😬

You might like to rethink your attitude too 🙄

Hoppinggreen · 27/07/2023 20:27

Does the job require a good level of English and basic manners?

Hannahsbananas · 27/07/2023 20:31

Does the job require a good level of English and basic manners?

0/2 so far.

Brefugee · 27/07/2023 20:32

I've been hired on the spot for the last 3 jobs I've had. But they were mostly arranged through networking.
Otherwise it's normal to have to wait for them to interview all their candidates and then make a decision

Weflewinstyle · 27/07/2023 20:39

I've not had a job in years due to leaving college then having a child soo

have you ever had a job then?

No what I'm saying is people tend not to check and reflect on their written communication in the Sam way the would at work. So incorrect grammar, particularly phases which are more common in speech (and sound the same in many accents) are more likely to slip through.

OP might be rude af. But honestly grammar wankers are just as bad. It's just so very dull.

Weflewinstyle · 28/07/2023 05:05

@Pinkneonballoon there’s the odd grammatical mistake because you’re focused on getting your point across, such as from your last post * in the Sam way the would at work.*

and then there’s the OP. The majority of sentences very poorly written (and rude too but that’s another issue!)
