Wow @eatthecheese thank you so much for taking the time to write that!! It's perfect, I could just copy and paste! Haha
Really appreciated xx

BitOutOfPractice · 26/06/2023 09:22

Sorry @eatthecheese but that sounds like it was written by chatcpt!

id make it a. Shorter and b. More approachable. are you aiming to introduce yourself personally to customers once you start? If so, I’d say “I’m aiming to talk to / meet all of our key customers before too long but if, in the meantime, you have any suggestions or questions, please do get in touch.”

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2023 09:26

Perhaps you can show us your first draft OP, then we can offer suggestions that might help or improve it. Surely writing an email like this is in your skillset if they’ve picked you for the role?

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 26/06/2023 09:27

Oh god, don't say you're excited. Or speak on behalf of a company you know nothing about. That's not what they're asking you to do. The email above reads like a cringefest of copying and pasting.

Agree with BOOP. Short, factual, to the point.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 26/06/2023 09:28

I agree with BitOutOfPractice. Shorter, and without the corporate cliches.

I also agree with PuppyMonkey. If you actually want to build relationships with these people then write with your own words, not by committee.

eatthecheese · 26/06/2023 09:28

Chat GPT is your friend in situations like these haha.

Probationnotontarget · 26/06/2023 09:30

I would add

A bit about me - I’m and avid Football fan and regularly attend Aqua Yoga, I spend time with my immediate family and walk my two Yorkshire terriers - My dream holiday to to go kayaking in Outer Mongolia.

YouveGotAFastCar · 26/06/2023 09:30

Oh god, not what Eatthecheese wrote - which was well-meaning and helpful of them but was either written by or heavily inspired by ChatGPT; and it's really obvious. Nobody human writes like that, and it could set off alarm bells with both your new employer and your customers.

You want this to sound like you; have you got a first draft?

Correct thank you, I'll trot off and not start another thread for another year

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2023 09:33

Eh?

BitOutOfPractice · 26/06/2023 09:33

Yes, I hate the delighted, excited, thrilled type announcements as well.

Just be you op. Don’t make it sound like an annual report. Surely someone in your role should be friendly, approachable - yes and professional - but definitely not like a bot.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 09:33

He asked me to draft an email at 09:07 this morning, to be sent out in a couple of weeks. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and this is a part time role, 3 days a week. So the first thing I've done is start this thread, some call it lazy some might say proactive 😂

I will of course take time to sit down and think about how I want to come accords, professional and approachable. I don't know what that chat thing is but maybe that's why I was impressed with such a long and quick response

OP posts:
HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 09:35

Accords 🤨 across*

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 09:36

It's a huge industry and very competitive

OP posts:
HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 09:39

Our rates are not the cheapest but the quality of service reflects this. Part of my role will be customer facing to build relationships so we don't lose them to cheaper rates

new boss wants me to draft an email to all customers to introduce myself.
Don't introduce yourself. Write as if you are new-boss and get him/her to send out the introduction; it will give you more clout and official backing.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/06/2023 09:47

Fair enough op. There’s no rush so you can take your time.

I think it shows initiative to ask here. Genius in fact 😊

ChatGPT is an AI text generator. It’ll write about anything and everything in a flash but still doesn’t give that personal touch.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 10:00

@BitOutOfPractice ah yes I've seen recent threads about that I think.... step away!!

It needs to be quite a formal introduction, I can be more personable face to face and over the phone.

I like the idea of it being sent by the owner of the company

OP posts:
ItsNotRocketSalad · 26/06/2023 10:22

It's standard for these emails to be sent by the new employee, not their boss or the owner.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 10:30

This is the most senior role I've ever had so that's helpful thank you

OP posts:
LucyLoopyLu · 26/06/2023 10:40

Seems weird that you need to do this before you start- is it just so that they can check over what you write?

I've done these types of roles before and sent intro emails out, but they've always been very short and straightforward. Busy people don't want to read a long intro

  • generic greeting
  • when you are joining the business and what your role / client base is
  • your days / hours of work (as I think you said part time)
  • explain you will be in touch to set up meetings
  • Kind regards
  • your full name / explain if you would like to be called a short version or nickname
  • sig with your contact details

If you have a company website / brochure (pdf or similar) attach it.

Some people would put in their experience etc, but personally I think that's not appropriate for external facing. You can always cover that in a meeting if people are curious about you / your background

HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 11:14

@LucyLoopyLu thank you for this. I do think he's just trying to get me involved and give me a heads up on my first 'task' so to speak but I has made me overthink something that I would just write naturally on my first day...

I'm not sure if he wants me to send it out prior to my start date but as I'm still working my notice somewhere else I wouldn't want to do that anyway

OP posts:
HereIfYouNeedMe · 26/06/2023 12:08

Instead of sending a generic email to all customers, I think it will be better to gain knowledge of their history with the company first and arrange a face to face with them at the same time, after knowing my objectives with that specific client

OP posts:
eurochick · 26/06/2023 12:42

The draft above would have be skimming the first couple of lines and the. Promptly hitting the delete button. It is far too cliched and does read like it was generated by a bot.

My advice would be to keep it brief and to the point.
